Hmm..... in case all of you need a punching bag to start a new discussion away from TLJ, maybe I'll be a volunteer for a bit. Let me start by saying these:

1. Thor: Ragnarok is my least favorite movie in the Thor Trilogy.
2. I like Ranka's singing voice a lot more than Sheryl's .

Imma just do what I did with Wonder Woman (Which I actually loved) and just...not bother unless I have nothing better to watch on a plane.






Also.....Winter Olympics....Not really the place but I have a lot of suppressed anger about this whole North Korea situation. I'm so done with all these stupid self important Americans.

Well, I did a mini-review on the last page.

I was pretty upset with the all-too positive coverage of the North Koreans. It was a horrible low-point.

Eventually another solution will have to be found rather than throwing up more and more sanctions. I think a gradual reapproachement is the solution with the least chance of a massive blood bath on both sides of the Korean border.

North Korea has a lot of arable land, but due to years of $h!t management, their land has been turned into deserts. Also, it is difficult for, say Japan, to conduct a lasting overture, because North Korea has a tendency to walk back whatever treaties and or promises they make.

Take for example, while Kim Jung-Il was still alive, Japan decided to dispatch skilled workers (thats how Kim Jung-Il's sushi chef, famous for predicting Kim Jung-Un as the next heir got there) and supplies to North Korea to improve diplomatic relationships, Kim Jung-Il candidly admitted that North Korea agents have been kidnapping Japanese citizens for years.

Well, as you can imagine, that overture didn't last very long.

These days, North Korean fishing boats have arrived in great numbers raiding Japanese islands and robbing local residents for goods & supplies. Goddess only knows who else accompany those boats. Its increasingly irritating, and as I mentioned before, the JSDF can't liberally conduct tactics that would stop North Korean violators from approaching Japanese waters.

The irony of this, is to have South Korea scream at Japan for being terrible to Koreans in the past.

Oh, I'm not saying "North Korea are the good guys" by any stretch of the imagination. But, short of a terrible war, I'm not seeing how the hell you can eventually get those bastards in their government out of power, aside from a long application of soft power until the people of North Korea manage to get enough info and power to remove their leadership themselves.

On a lighter note, I've been enjoying my old-school Clint Eastwood flicks lately, also to be reminded that, before Arnold Schwarzenegger one-liners and modern action flicks, there was Clint Eastwood and Westerns.

Moreover, it is to remind us that back in the day, we had actors, these days we get CG.

Every epoch has its own kind of heroes. Now we are in the "self-concious hero" era.

I saw the old Westworld and Futureworld recently. Those are pretty entertaining flicks. Westworld was the first Hollywood movie that used CGI for the robot-vision and Yul Brynner is a really good proto-Terminator. It's too bad that the movie's limited budget can't afford to do more with the Yul-nator/Gunslinger character.

Well, we clearly are doing a repeat, where heroes will acknowledge when they are doing clichés or behaving dumb and so on. Maybe it's "Self-concious humor hero", then.

More like, "we lack originality, so lets copy older concepts"?

Eh, originality is overrated, compared to a well executed movie.

We don't really have that, nowadays, and not for a really long, long time (everything has been done before, and probably dozens, if not thousands, of times) and most people craving that are only fooling themselves, IMHO. I'll settle for a good yarn, well-told and well-executed, over an "original" and cringe-worthy one, more than a thousand times, myself.

Same here. The point is that it needs to be well executed. For example, too many high fantasy anime nowadays (Granblue Fantasy for example) seem to be going by the numbers but also lack engaging characters. Or an engaging plot. Or both.

Sadly, that is also true. But I do commend the effort, nonetheless. At least, they are trying - which is more than I can say for a few years ago, for example.

We even got a new series by the same writer of the Lodoss novels, for crying out loud!
