Knights could work, but I used knights that follow the heirarchy of a church. So while they are Sir something, the rank they hold is something from the RCC. They are run in a similar manner. Modified to include inquisitors (internal structure probably like a church) as the local police. The governor would be a bishop or something around there. Pope belongs to carim, and cardinals run regions of dimensional clusters, and so forth. Kha's part of the equivalent of God's Right Seat...

This is however the structure of dimensions within the saint church. Those who broke off during the Sundering and then were never annexed by the last Saint King or the Bureau that followed now lie far out of the fringes, and follow a feudal system like old european countries. That's what I think, because from ur message you seem to be refering to these kind of fringe d-clusters.

Belka Aligned Territories is my term for them. Canon said nothing, so I said they do.

These territories answer to Saint Church for matters of internal affairs, while the Bureau handles defence, like a self-governance arrangement. Just don't make so many of them that pushes the level of acceptance.

That's just the style your writing. Don't have to tell the whole world that's what your doing; just write it and let people see how being detailed can be interesting.

Sort of, but not exactly. One of the things that bothers me in a lot of magic series is that people can just keep blasting away with no consequences. What if at least the second law of thermodynamics was in effect? In other words, every time they use magic waste heat is produced; the more powerful the magic the greater the waste heat. Take a regular barrier, for instance. Weaker barriers won't hold up against strong magical attacks, but they produced negligible amounts of waste heat because its a weak magic. Conversely, more powerful barriers produce large amounts of waste heat and can actually burn the mage's hands/body really quickly because of that. Likewise, barrier jackets have time limits between attacks while they get rid of the waste heat built up in them. As a result there's a limit to how many powerful attacks they can use and how quickly they can use them. What could make Nanoha's Divine Buster such a revolutionary technique is that it's not a closed magic system: Since it takes magical energy from the surroundings rather than producing it within the barrier jacket itself, the waste heat that builds up in the barrier jacket as a result of generating magical energy is negligible.

In fact, one of the ideas I had was that as a fight between mages goes on the environment gradually gets hotter and hotter until they run the risk of death via heat stroke. That could be your reason for not having massive mage engagements in series: If so many mages went at it at once, they would turn the area they're fighting in into a desert.

I've actually come up with an idea for Fate's fighting style to deliberately take advantage of the above, but only if you want to hear it.

Another weakness of magic in general you might be interested in developing is basic thermodynamics. Let me know if you'd like some elaboration. :3

Well, for Nanoha Moczo's Infinity fic is good, as is his Fate/stay night fic, Chaos Theory. For Bleach, there's Zanpakuto?, which I've always found incredibly interesting. For Final Fantasy VIII there's Sound of a Trembling Heart, which is an incredible alternate take of the game. Those are the ones off of my favorites list I would most recommend at the moment.
