Look, don't take it personally. I just freaking hate idols and that show is way too close to them.

Took a look at it before. Boring as flock. And it has idol stuff at times. Ick. But more importantly, without someone like Hachiman and proper counters, it's just a watered-down mess.

In truth most all of the series follow a similar general model, though after 11-12 of these things there are common variations on the model proper

But my recommending HeartCatch is mainly from a simple reason - it was the one I enjoyed the most. ^^

There are other good ones, of course (and by good I mean the ones I enjoy rewatching): I thought Yes! PreCure 5, Suite PreCure and Go Princess PreCure were the better of the pack.

On a personal level I enjoy Smile Precure as well, but for personal reasons - it definitely has one of the weaker storylines, but the "final boss" is to my mind the scariest of the all - well done. I also really enjoy the characters. Probably the biggest downside to Smile PreCure is the "fairy sidekick", which got on my nerves more than usual.

So it's kinda tough to say "which one will definitely be the best for beginners". I really enjoy the Mahou shoujo trope to begin with, so....
