    Yeah, that tends to happen a lot when people start debating like that. Part of the reason why I tend to avoid debating at all costs, I'm not good at that kind of thing. ^^;;

    I thought ds9 was the best to me, just because they dared challenge the confines of their own world. It's always annoyed me that a lot of the fanbase will cry and moan over every time a canon detail has been violated. The anime equivalent would be excessive worship of source material. The most important thing is to create something compelling, no?

    Voyager was good at times, just wildly inconsistent. And Enterprise was bad, with the finale being the worst troll ever. They played it safe and took their audience for granted, thinking that if they just put on more of the same crap, people would keep watching it. They just didn't try anymore.

    But as you know already, I've drawn a ton of parallels between Haruhi II and Voyager. I sure hope it gets in a diffrent direction. I do not want another "Enterprise". And it is quite a valid fear to me, given how there seems to be a strong "KyoAni can do no wrong" sentiment-- it seems much stronger from what I've seen from other series. Shana and Nanoha are arguably just as good series , yet their weaker incarnations get burned so badly, a bit too harshly imo. Nobody's gonna argue that the Konoe Arc was a work of genius because it was their intention to set the finale up and you were supposed to get into Shana's mindset of confusion, angst, and stagnation-- and that's probably just as true as EE. So why the exceptionalism? Oh, and what if the gimmick for disappearance is that it really is gone and "disappeared" Meta ftw? j/k. I really do like Haruhi II, Shana II, and Nanoha Strikers, it's just that sometimes things can be not all good and not all bad.

    Sorry for the big wall of text, I'd really wish blogspot could make commenting easier.

    Anyhow, regarding your long blog entry, I share an opinion of Star Trek with this link http://sfdebris.com/voyager/faq.asp, where it starts "Because Star Trek Voyager and Enterprise both represent opportunities tossed aside" It also summarizes a number of my opinions on various series-- including Haruhi. I see a parallel in quality between say Voyager and Haruhi II. I think it all relates to what you wrote on the blog too. Essentially people try to duplicate their success by giving more of the same (fan pandering), but in doing that they neglected what made them great in the first place.

    You should also check out his trek video youtube reviews. They are pretty damned funny. http://www.youtube.com/user/sfdebris?blend=1&ob=4

    I just reread my post in the Shana II overall rating thread after I brought it up earlier, and I noticed I sarcastically referred to the Konoe Arc as "The Melancholy of Shana" This was right before the EE fiasco. Oh, someone has a cruel sense of humor.

    Ok, I just read your article and voted on the poll.

    Bakemonogatari is more than halfway done, but whatever helps to spread the love!
