It's amusing watching you sneakily lead people in the HO anime thread away from the wrong conclusions by pointing to what we can currently assume and can't assume based on what the show has shown us. I've just given up on trying to communicate with anime-only viewers. I commend you for your hard work along with the others who are trying hard to preserve the sanity of anime-only viewers...

It's all good intentions, but still sneaky.

On other note, I've just always felt like it's impossible for anime to adapt Kamachi works very well. After all, who the heck is going to spend $150,000 + dollars to animate 23 minutes of internal monologue/description/world-building/ideological speeches/intricate character backstory and blah... and have to do so for like 3000 episodes. I mean... Index isn't that long compared to some other shows out there like Detective Conan or maybe One Piece... but the problem is that since all of the plot/text/descriptions "matter" if a very good adaptation were to be done, then it would have to literally include 'everything' Kamachi has written down.

Anime normally summarize written or drawn stuff by adding extra elements like visuals, music, VA'ing and etc. However, you can't really summarize or cut down anything Kamachi... I mean... just look at the spoilers people try to release or the PV's Dengeki give for each Kamachi volume... they always really suck or don't really summarize the novel at all... and make it seem much worse than it actually is.

In my experience, a lot of works that I have read don't have much to say, so when they are animated, they are usually just sort of extended or expanded upon and basically left the same, but Kamachi just says too much in Index, HO, and etc. so it's basically hopeless to try to animate that without cutting a lot.

In the end, it's fine for people who have read the novels, but not for anyone else. For everyone else, it's just okay. It's so sad.

I'm curious about your thoughts? Are you less skeptical, more skeptical, not skeptical?

    What about semi-realistic military LNs?

Well, I won't blame them. We have too much of those kinds of LN adaptations lately.

When was the first? When World Break, Absolute Duo and all those other LNs happened?

    最近のラノベアニメの不甲斐なさをみてるとSAO、禁書、劣等生がいかに良質だったか再認識で きるな!

If you only see disappointment in light novel anime nowadays, even in SAO, Index or Mahouka, with their superior quality, don't expect to see the light!

Oh, as for the long Q&A, I'll pass on that.

The material to cover is often influenced or even decided by the publishing company. From what I've read, there may be commercial considerations, such as how many characters to introduce within the show (a full slate of heroines is better for merchandising), as well as the number of books a prospective customer would need to buy to catch up to new material. Blazing through more means that the entry cost is lower for those who are on a tight budget or are undecided as to whether they want to invest in light novels. For example, if nine volumes are covered in the anime, they just have to start buying from Vol. 10 onward.

I said it somewhere else, but it'd be a lasting thing if I said it here. Even though it's a day late

    Happy Birthday Chaos.

From experience, I already know that if a person is that skeptical about it, you can try to explain and discuss for an entire day and they won't even entertain the idea. I'll just bear with it and drop the discussion to save myself a headache. Sure, no science fiction is ever perfect, it's just fiction after all, but there really comes to a point where its just nitpicking.
