Yes i liked the game quite a bit (though i must say Riviera and Yggdra are nothing alike difficulty wise ...Riviera is a cakewalk) , but the game is indeed not very forgiving of mistakes. The whole deal with items can be rather inconvenient as well, as you may never know what items you might have needed later to get a better item.
The endings were horribly abrupt as well, and one of them made little sense and was an OOC fest ...
that said, i loved the gameplay and enjoyed the challenge.
Actually, I think that's a response to me calling her Bun Bun. Um, it's her, right? What's with people not listening their gender.
But yeah, did you like it? I think you did. If you did, then that's great, because it's one of my favorite games just for its difficulty. Apparently the same company that made Yggdra/Riviera is coming out with another game soon, but it's probably not a direct sequel.
