I got your message. I'm not sure I have a lot to recommend just yet. Cross Ange seemed uncomfortably exploitative. I'm not quite sure what you'd think of Gundam: Reconquista in G. Madan ou No to Vanadis is pretty decent by the standards of fantasy series with harem elements, but those aren't exactly high standards.

I have high hopes for Amagi Brilliant Park but that's largely because the author of the source novels also wrote the source novels for Full Metal Panic (an old favorite of mine).

Perhaps I'll have some more suggestions after I've done a sampling session with my brother and a couple of my other anime watching buddies. I sometimes see things at those sessions that I wouldn't be inclined to sample on my own.

Oh hey, congrats on passing 13k posts. That's twice my record on a single message board.

Hey! Yeah, the times I was on, I did notice you were less active as well! How are you, apart from busy?
I indeed have less time to spend online- third year law school has started, so I'm busy pretending to be a functioning adult half the time. It's surprisingly even worse than expected

That said, what are you following so far? I'll definitely be watching the two Gundams, Psycho Pass, Wixoss, Magic Kaito and Terraformars. Haven't seen enough of any other new shows to judge yet.

Uh, Trips, having not watched it, did Psycho Pass do anything to leave itself open for a second season or is Urobuchter just going ham?

As for recommendations, I don't follow on-going stuff (Sakura Trick was an exception), and I really can't sell a show in its infancy if it becomes Another failure. But, tell me what you ARE following, and if I just so happen to come across an unwatched darling by the end of Fall 2014, I might have something.

Terraformers: I'm probably not the best person to ask to evaluate grim, crapsack world shows with old school sensibilities, but man did it ever feel like this show and its characters were trying to take themselves super seriously. It was like the anime equivalent of drinking a flat soda. IMO, of course.

Denki-gai no Honya-san: About the staff of a doujin shop in Akihabara, many of whom seem to be cute girls. Mostly pretty bad (a couple of the jokes felt kind of creepy just because of the kinds of doujins being referenced, but gets some points for the interactions that occur when one of the guys visits one of the girls - who, it turns out, is actually one of his favourite doujin authors - in order to help her meet her comiket deadline. She comes across as kind of Kuroneko would be like if she grew up into the kind of person who doesn't have much fun (aka frumpy and grumpy) and the "maybe they like each other" interactions are actually kind of cute. Can't see sticking with it unless it drastically improves or this season really stinks though.

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken: About a women who doesn't get her otaku husband. I actually like the concept behind this but the dynamics between them kill it. She marries not because she likes him but just "to get married" basically - and he's so self absorbed and exhibits so many bad otaku traits I still feel sorry for her. Which might be intentional but it takes a lot of the fun out of the concept. Might keep watching for a bit because it's only a few minutes per episodes and I'm wondering if the character dynamics will improve over time.

Yeah, can't say I'm too impressed so far although I'm hopefully for the stuff still coming down the pipe.

Saw it yesterday. Thanks. I actually replied to some of what you said though I don't know if I said anything that would warrant an ongoing conversation.

Here is the one that is not on the thread, the third reference was just in conversation, so i won't link it

10 years? I feel so old.

Anyhow, I'm glad people still talk about that series though it'd be a long time before I can rewatch something since I have too many anime to catch up (haven't even finished Aldnoah Zero) But you never know; there's a lot of time til next May. I should definitely be there to poke at the later episodes. =p

They also released this lately, lol

    Thanks for bringing it up.

So I tried to come up with a personal top ten list, but that seemed hard. But that was hard so I decided to try and do a personal top five. Which is still hard because I can't decided whether I liked Shin Sekai Yori enough to overcome by nostalgia for and tendency to fanboy about Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu.

But the four shows that easily made the cut were... three Shaft shows (Moon Phase, EF: A Tale of Memories and Bakemonogatari) and Hyouka.

I feel like there's a witty self-deprecating quip that needs to be made here but I can't quite place it.
