On the less important subject at hand, I'm not sure if I'm all that excited about the project; I guess action flicks don't do it for me like they used to. While I have watched and found some entertainment in the previous Bond movies, I guess it's something I will pick up when finding myself with lots of free time on my hands, rather than something I would rush to a cinema to see the moment it comes out.

DMCA once the trailers hit youtube? :D:D:D

Though as some pointed out, the title doesn't sound very Bond-like ... unless they can introduce alien invasion in it! I'd totally watch that ...
Or drop a space colony station onto planet Earth. :heh:

Ithekro 2012-03-13 01:14

They already had a space plot movie with Moonraker.

Blaat 2012-03-13 03:50

Yes and it was arguably the worst Bond movie ever, so let's not have Bond go into space again. ;p

Ithekro 2012-03-13 04:05

Well it was probably the only time a Bond villian got away with a happy ending.

I've seen 1 or 2 Bronsnon's films and they didn't do anything for me. Then again, I'm not really crazy about Sir Connery's films either, guess you just had to be part of the time. It's the sixties goofiness/sexiness (RETRO) that makes it work.

You probably didn't watch the right ones. I suggest Goldeneye and the World Is Not Enough (though this one isn't as good as Goldeneye). Tomorrow Never Dies isn't horrible, but it's obviously rushed. Die Another Day needs to die today. >_>

If you want to try Connery’s Bond, I suggest you watch From Russia with Love. I never watch any 60s movies before I watch FRwL and I like it very much. It’s a very good spy movie (even beat all of Roger Moore’s Bond movies and all of Brosnan’s except Goldeneye imo). It has decent story, menacing & smart villain, and great action for its time. Connery’s acting is also solid in this. I think there’s a reason why this movie called “classic” or “timeless”. ;)

@GDB
Agreed on The World is not Enough. It has a nice story, exciting action and very solid acting in the roles of Bond & Elektra. Still, this movie is haunted by Denise Richards and a lackluster main villain named Renard. They should’ve made Elektra the big-bad-boss instead. She’s the one controlling/taking advantage of Renard behind the scenes after all. That would be much much more interesting.

I can’t believe some critics actually said TWinE as the worst bond movie. They surely haven’t watched Die Another Day, Moonraker, The Man with the Golden Gun, etc. If there’s a nomination of ‘worst Bond movie ever’, I believe most of them will come from Roger Moore movies.

GDB 2012-03-13 18:08

Indeed. I always forget how bad Man with the Golden Gun is, since I often confuse it with Goldfinger (which is one of the greats, btw. So check that one out solomon).

Seems okay, I suppose.

MUAHAHAHAHAHA 2012-05-21 08:05

Didn't fancy Quantum of Solace that much, but judging from the trailer, it seems like Skyfall might surpass its predecessor.........hopefully.

The problem I have with most Bond movies is, that for spy movies, there is not much spying going on in them.
It should be more about gaining information and less about bursting into evil overlord's headquaters guns blazing. Which he can do, after the spying is done, but not all the freakin time.

Also a spy should try to work undercover. If found, he's as good as dead. Yet somehow everyone seems to know who Bond (or 007) is - "ahhh... the famous Mr. Bond".

Figures that for realism, you and I will have to find film adaptations of John Le Carre's novels, whose George Smiley and his team are no-nonsense intelligence agents.

Do we really want to see a film about a supposedly 'normal guy' living his life for a couple of months before receiving a phone call from his 'family back home' and getting the first flight back to Moscow? :p

Dhomochevsky 2012-05-21 14:50

Well, make it a cinematic version of that. ;)

It's not that Bond is an active spy so much, as that he lacks any kind of subtlety. He's more like a one-man-SWAT-team-bait-assassin, than a spy.

Ithekro 2012-05-21 14:54

Well the "Double Oh" (00) means he's more an assassin than a spy. If I recall correctly. Meaning he's sent of missions were he's more likely to be killing people more than simply just spying on people.

Obelisk ze Tormentor 2012-05-21 18:31

Agreed. IIRC in the novels, those 00 agents is more than just a standard spy looking for information. I think their main job is to track and arrest/kill potentially dangerous people (terrorists, megalomaniacs, etc). That’s what their “licenses to kill” are for, right?

New Bond, sure. But the older stuff he was a pretty good spy.

Ithekro 2012-05-21 18:51

I recall, I think the start of Goldfinger, that Bond uses a wetsuit to setup some explosives, swims out, takes off the wetsuit to show her's in a tuxedo (under the wetsuit). Enter a casino or something, finds a girl and gives a one liner at the explosion. Followed later by being attacked in the bath (of the girl he scored) and eventually electrocuiting an attacker in the bath....."Shocking".

Bond was always one for morbid one liners.

they actually show longer version with Q. but sony ninja work quite fast

he look like this

james0246 2012-07-28 17:50

^I'm really excited to see Ben Whishaw as Q. Best known in America for his part in the recent Julie Taymor production of The Tempest (or possible his smaller part in the Daniel Craig led 'modern classic' Layer Cake), Whishaw is a very good up and coming British actor (I say up and coming, but he has been working for over a decade). Hopefully this role will give him the media exposure he needs to break out into American cinema (or at least get bigger parts in more film overseas).

It does help that he is cute in a geek chic kind of way :)...(though he definitely looks like Cillian Murphey's younger brother in Skyfall :D.)
