I take it the ash did not create 7,500 foot tall piles on the ground but was visible up to 7,500 feet above the ground.

Japanese blogger stabbed to death after giving
speech on handling online disputes:

"A well-known Japanese blogger and expert on the “dark web” was stabbed to death
by an internet user he had clashed with online shortly after delivering a lecture on
how to manage online disputes.

Kenichiro Okamoto was reportedly followed to the toilets in the lecture centre in the
Chuo district of Fukuoka city, in south-west Japan, at around 8pm on Sunday evening.

Mr Okamoto, a 41-year-old employee of a cyber security consultancy who was better
known by his online name Hagex, was found with multiple stab wounds to his chest
and neck. He was confirmed dead at a local hospital a short while later.

According to national broadcaster NHK, a man in his 40s surrendered to police about
three hours later, telling officers that he “hated” Okamoto and adding: “I am
responsible for the murder in Chuo Ward”."

A prolific Japanese blogger held a seminar about Internet trolls. Moments later, one killed him, police say.

The lawyers ran out of appeals, so the MOJ carried the sentence. IIRC, the previous one was a strict Buddhist who didn't believe in the death penalty.

Hiroshi had a small inflatable boat in his car, which he normally used to go fishing with his friends. Without a pump he raced to a nearby petrol station and forced air into his hobby vessel.

"After I got in the boat I went back to my house right away but there was an electric wire on the water in front of me and and I saw many things from the houses floating. It was very hard to get there. I had to navigate and avoid those obstacles," he said.

"When I got to my house I screamed out for my mother, but no one responded."

As he was about to smash a window to break into this house, his father managed to call him, saying that they had already been rescued, along with Hiroshi's grandparents.

He was relieved. But his rescue efforts were just beginning.

EU signs its biggest free trade deal with Japan

Shipping goods between Japan and EU must be complicated. Do they go by ship and through the Suez canal or around the tip of Africa? Somehow I don't see them being shipped to some mainland Asian country like China then sent overland to Europe. But really I have no idea.

Last year Japanese exports to the EU ran around 70 billion euro. EU exports to Japan totaled a little over 60 billion. Obviously they've figured out the transportation issues.

They said would-be warriors from at least 14 countries had been in touch.

Iga city said on its website that it "didn't put out information about 'a lack of ninja in Iga' or the 'annual income of ninja'".

The city also tried to squelch the hopes of applicants by issuing statements in Japanese, English and three other languages.

It warned them to "be careful of fake news".

I'm waiting to see how they evaluate these applicants. Do they need to bring resumes listing people they've killed? Will they have to demonstrate their assassination skills on live targets?

Ikee Rikiko is the first woman ever to win the MVP. She scored six gold medals during the Games. At 18, the $50,000 prize probably comes in handy, too.

Yeah, Naomi Osaka's performance was absolutely fantastic. There was a time when I thought she was out of gas when she fell down 1-3 in the second set, but then she came back even stronger at the right time. It's a shame that the newspapers will talk a lot about Serena's tirade with the chair umpire. Personally, I was very disappointed with Serena's behavior for a player with that much experience. Nothing should be taken away from Naomi's performance though.

I hope to see a sequel to Baby Steps coming soon now that we have new Japanese milestones on the ATP-WTA circuit with Naomi Osaka and Kei Nishikori reaching at least the semis at the same major tournament, and with Naomi Osaka winning it.
