The story is about Rito Yūki, a high-school boy who cannot confess to the girl of his dreams, Haruna Sairenji. One day when coming home and sulking in the bath-tub a mysterious, nude girl, appears out of nowhere. Her name is Lala and she comes from the planet Deviluke, where she is the heir to the throne. Her father wants her to return to her home planet so she can marry one of the husband candidates, but she decides that she wants to marry Rito in order to stay on Earth. Commander Zastin has been ordered to bring Lala back and has already battled Rito. He reports to the emperor that Rito would be suited to marry Lala, after hearing Rito say that marriage is impossible unless it is with the person you love (Rito was actually defending himself but Zastin and Lala thought he was defending Lala). With this speech, Lala truly falls in love with Rito and decides that she wants to marry Rito. Her father decides that, if Rito is able to protect Lala from her fiances, then he can be her fiance, but if Rito cannot protect Lala from her other fiances, Lala's father will kill Rito and destroy Earth.
Anyone looking forward to this anime??.

Midonin 2007-12-24 10:44

I started reading the manga because I heard there was going to be an anime adaptation, and it's a fun story. So it's on my "to watch" list for the Spring Season.

ReizoSan 2007-12-24 10:50

First off it sounded quite complex being a "Comedy, Bishojo, Ecchi, Romance, Sci-Fi" but i will defently give it a chance of the first odd episodes, So do you feel the manga's are worth buying??

Westlo 2007-12-24 11:25

After seeing the image of Lala coming into the main character's bath in the Random Musing post by Omni on his blog that was mainly about Honey & Clover LA I started reading the manga. It's good fun so far and should be alright as long as XEBEC don't do another manga to anime disaster like Negima.

Ill go buy some after Christmas but i agree with you i hope it doesn't turn out like Negima!i loved the books but started the anime and hated it.

Oh it's pretty brainless fun I agree.

By the way, anyone want to take bets on whether Yami is going to have the same Seiyuu as Eve (I believe her name was Misato Fukuen, but I'll have to check). I think she probably will too make the tie even stronger and bring in Eve's fan group as well, because honestly, they are the same character. Yami is like making up for Eve never quite getting enough full body fanservice shots.

Westlo 2007-12-24 13:40

You're fairly up to date with the manga aren't you? Any good stopping point for the anime in it yet?

So far, I think we can safely say that there is one.

Though frankly, it wouldn't make much of a stopping point either. A huge bulk of Torabu is as said, mindless comedy fanservice fun.

Kaioshin Sama 2007-12-24 14:19

The beauty of To Love Ru is that it's a Weekly Shonen Jump manga, and therefore borderline guaranteed to last about 100+ chapters and span about 20+ volumes at the bare minimum. In fact I believe it is about to hit the 100 chapter point if it hasn't already. For all we know this series could easily be a prolonged one like Toei's One Piece or Studio Pierrot's Yu Yu Hakusho, Naruto and Bleach.

Edit: By the way I just checked and Yami/Golden Darkness does indeed have the exact same Seiyuu as Eve from Black Cat. Not surprising. And pretty boy Zastin goes to Takehito Koyasu. Also not a huge surprise.

toxic_trance 2007-12-24 14:48

Oh..i so am .. I love this manga.

One of the better harems, where the lead guy is definitely better than your average lead. But hech, its not the guy that makes this manga so awesome, its the girls and the mindless(ina good way :) ) awesome fan service which just steal the show.

The only disappointment in the anime would be that there is no ending possible. Since the manga is still just having fun, and doing various crazy adventures. I m sure it will be an girls end. So I m not expecting a great end, but i m definitely hopin good animation and good adaptation

UPR 2007-12-24 15:07

Okay I know im going to get trashed. I like the manga and will at the very least check out the first few ep to see how it goes. But, unless the manga ends with a actual ending in which there is a actual couple, then the anime will fall into just another echii; harem with no ending.

What is there to expect of this that has not been done by other series. It will play out like all the other series that came before it. And frankly I don't expect it to be anything great, since the male lead is just like so many others out there with no special quality that has the girl's falling for him.

This will problably not be anything great. And if does something remotly different it's because the bar is set so low.

Well, Eve's VA already agreed to playing her voice for the drama CD, so we can at least expect her to come back for To Love Ru. :D

I always enjoy a good comedy romance so i hope this will be good, also does anyone know where to get these in the UK as the place i get manga, Amazon.co.uk doesn't have them in, thanks in advance.

Mizuno 2007-12-24 19:44

They were referring to this.

http://randomc.animeblogger.net/2007...drama-edition/

I hope they make at least 26 episodes out of this, but each chapter is pretty random so I'm not sure how they're going to fit them into a episode that goes on for half an hour.

Deathkillz 2007-12-24 21:03

Man, I need to start reading the manga :D

One of the main reasons why I'm watching this besides the eyecatch service - EVE CLONE!

Beh...the Uk is useless for anything of this sort

Aoie_Emesai 2007-12-25 15:19

The manga wasn't the greatest but it was enjoyable enough to read. They now need a anime of Pretty Face ^^, since the To Love Ru artwork is very amazingly cute.

Freeter 2007-12-25 16:13

Sweet, there's an anime thread now. Might as well post these:

Pics from the trailer shown at JUMP Festa

Cam footage of the trailer itself *requires Nicovideo account*

I'm not setting my standards too high since it's a harem show and Xebec is producing, but with Misato Fukuen reprising her role as Eve and some peeps from Buso Renkin and Gintama at the helm, I have some hope that it'll be good.

BTW, I still think this is the best harem series ever. Rito is one lucky bastard :heh:

tripperazn 2007-12-25 16:50

Not exactly a very informative trailer, the scenes are all straight out of Volume 1 with only Lala's voice.

Though for some reason the horror that is Love Hina comes to mind after watching the trailer (good harem manga gone BAD in anime form). Although expectations aren't high, I at least hope it won't get THAT bad.

As long as it's not as horrible as Shugo Chara, then i'll be fine ^^, Love Hina was ok, till you get to those boring filler that was more pointless than a Pet Rock.

Westlo 2007-12-26 03:21

The XEBEC Love Hina anime was pretty crappy compared to the manga but it was no utter disaster like Negima! was.

Mizuno 2007-12-26 03:48

I don't think Shugo Chara is a good comparison... maybe it's more like Nagaserete Airantou. Each episode will be refreshing, I certainly find the characters very interesting and the fanservice is over the top.

serenade_beta 2007-12-26 04:19

I'm expecting episodes of comedy and fanservice, with the very occasional drama. That's what the manga is like...

-_-

Guess I can expect the series to be a bit brainless... The question is how to end the series, since the manga has not ended. Probably one of those "doesn't choose, and leaves it open" ends.

This series's Eve isn't Eve though (personality isn't the same, no Sven interaction), so I can't be really excited about that.

Mizuno 2007-12-26 04:46

She's not Eve but has exact same character design, consider Eve in a parallel universe.

What all fanboys wanted in Black Cat that never happen will happen in To-Love-Ru, let's put it that way. :eyespin:

slidingk1 2007-12-27 03:20

TLR is going to animated is great news. Looks like there will be lots of skipping around in regards to plot line. That and I have a strong feeling I know where the stopping point would be also. *hint* it involves a machine made by LA LA.

Nightengale 2007-12-27 08:51

There's nothing wrong with skipping in Torabu anyway, considering how loose the continuity is.

Anyway, the animation team seems to have gotten Rito's expressions right. Now so long as the seiyuu doesn't make Rito sound annoying, it'll be a good threshold as a good borderline to ensure that Rito comes across as being bubblishly cute rather than annoying.

That's a razor's edge considering Rito's character so far in the manga. He isn't really an outstanding lead at all, even considering this is one of those fun, but ultimately pointless harems. If the seiyuu and script writers manage to pull Rito above "lucky pre-pubescent boy", I'll be happy with that. Considering the manga doesn't really go above that much, I'm not hopeful the anime will.

I think we'll love this show for Lala-chan and Yami-chan/Eve Clone even if Rito is horribly annoying though.

Mizuno 2007-12-27 17:19

Don't forget Yui, I'd rank her higher than Eve even.

Looking forward to the anime hope Xebec doesn't screw this up like they did with the anime version of Love Hina. Also wonder how they gonna do the anime version since most of the chapters in To-Love-Ru are standalone chapters. So will they either strech out the story in the anime by adding filler to fill for the entire episode or do two chapters in one episode. Like how they do in Kero-Gunso the first half being about one story and the other half about some other standalone story.

Yui? Does she start to play a bigger role in later chapters? So far (in the scanlated chapters, I haven't started raws yet), she has only a few appearances...

Seeing as how Love Hina was pretty much the same story as far as progression for much of the series, I would say anything is fine as long as they don't repeat past mistakes.

The 2 part episodes sounds nice though. I haven't really seen Keroro Gunsou, but KyoAni used the same approach with Fumoffu! and that turned out beautifully.

Well as long it doesn't have the same director or scenario writer from Love Hina anime working on this series there's hope it won't suck. Also wonder how there gonna handle the fanservice/nudity maybe use the fog effect like how it was done for 1st season of Girls Bravo while the DVD version will be uncut. That's the other thing I'm worried about because the Love Hina anime was rather tame compared to the manga version.

I'm definitely guessing fog effect for Lala's intro scene, it just makes sense, but they're sure to tone down the fanservice considerably. I wouldn't worry too much, they can't forget this is a bishoujo series (if they do, fanservice content is the least of our worries). Code Geass showed some pretty risque shots, so maybe censorship won't be as bad? This is probably going on to a late night slot anyway, so they might as well...

You have to keep in mind that Love Hina manga is on the extremes of fanservice. It's almost soft-core porn at some parts, probably would be considered that if it wasn't drawn. To Love-Ru can't even compare to Love Hina manga wise in that respect.

Aside from XEBEC's history, everything looks good so far, the character designs are faithful (more so than Love Hina) and well-done. Lala sounds okay on NicoNico Douga too. Besides, it's a harem/comedy, I'd think that it's relatively hard to screw up especially with such good source material.

ZODDGUTS 2007-12-27 19:37

I know this is odd to say I rather prefer they censor it add the fog effect for the nudity and fanservice so that the DVD version will be uncut without the fog effect, because if they don't do it that way well end up getting a tame ass anime version of To-LOVE-Ru like Love Hina/Negima (both done by Xebec ) was. Basicly go crazy like Girls Bravos the censorship did suck but hey at least we got to see it uncut in the DVD's.

Because Love Hina/Negima anime version were tame it suffered big time on the comedy since the fanservice plays a big role for the comedy effect.

BTW The reason I said nudity as well is because the tankobons has the nipples drawn the ones release on the magazine don't have them.

Scroll down a little to see some Lala nipple action: :p

I did a little research into what animes I can look forward to next year and there are some ones I really looking forward to seeing but To Love Ru tops the list by a mile.

why I'm looking forward to this

great fanservice: check(I'm a glutton for fan service:p)

awesome cast beauty cuteys: check

There is more to this list but its got me sold at the first 2:D

I just love this series and thank god I decided to check it out, possibly my fav harem yet.

Westlo 2007-12-29 14:57

I've now read the manga up to chapter 15, enjoyable enough for the type of manga it is, hopefully XEBEC do a decent job of it.
