Boxing discussion thread

Is this a joke??? Both do not belong in the same class!

It's happening tonight.

My money is on De la Hoya:p

Nerroth 2008-12-06 21:50

If some of his prize money goes towards helping the Houston Dynamo get that new stadium, I'm all for him!

(I don't support the Dynamo personally, but I want to see MLS as a whole do well - and de la Hoya is one of the Dynamo's current owners.)

Megacrash Gr 2008-12-06 22:22

Rooting for the"Pac Man".

mg1942 2008-12-06 22:54

This is nothing short of pure fantasy, hype:D

EDIT: WTF man! Golden Boy says no mas. There goes my money:frustrated:

Pacman is now pound-for-pound the best in Asia and the world!

It was lopsided man:p My money man looked like heavyweight and tired in comparison.

Strygwyr 2008-12-07 00:09

hey the match is over......Oscar........ouch.......

P.G. 2008-12-07 07:04

lol quite a nice fight. but yeah, how odd. The Goldenboy wasn't so aggressive w/ Pacman w/ the 1st set of rounds. hmm dunno...

~and I was jumping out of the theater seats everytime pacman gives great blows. :heh:

wew~ go pacman~ go pinoy~ :p

Utau 2008-12-07 08:12

personally, i'm more disappointed at how the match ended. I mean, where's the De la Hoya we've seen before? it looked like Manny just manhandled him with ease.

i don't know, i know i should be happy b'coz Pacman won the match but... it just seems so empty for a match entitled "The Dream Match" ;_;

Westlo 2008-12-07 08:15

Boxing needs Manny vs Mayweather @ 140, though I wouldn't mind seeing Manny make a fool out of Hatton first.

Supah Em 2008-12-07 21:27

Don't forget about Edwin Valero, the so-called knockout artist with a 24-0-0 24KO's(19 in 1st round) card who is forever wanting a bout with Pacman. But he wouldn't last long, most of his fights have been with mediocre boxers and even The former big three in the super featherweight division (Barrera, Morales, and Marquez) would slap the living daylights out of him.

Mayweather needs to crawl out of his retirement as many see that he only retired just so he can establish himself as one of the best by defeating the Golden Boy in a close contest in his last bout and end it with a perfect record. We need Manny X Mayweather ASAP. Now that is what we can deem a "dream match" considering that Floyd is still not past his prime and Manny is at his peak.

I also love how almost all of the so-called BOXING ANALYSTS A.K.A SELF PROCLAIMED BOXING EXPERTS predicted a De La Hoya Knockout and said the odds of Pacquiao winning were so low that at best his win would be by way of split decision. They also said that Pacman had everything to gain and nothing to lose, and look how he earned it.

I thought their assessment was realistic. I rewatched one of De La Hoya's match and he was able hang on with the number-one pound for pound boxer in the world - Mayweather Jr.

Westlo 2008-12-08 02:44

Mayweather payed too much respect to Oscar, if he had taken more risks he could've dominated Oscar. Manny stopped paying respect to Oscar and he ended up humilating him, Manny Vs Mayweather could be a fight for the ages, I gotta go with pbf though, his defense is too good.

Thingle 2008-12-08 03:16

^ I'm going for the Pac Man on this one. It's nice to see a black guy get destroyed by an asian.

Seriously you can't place Hatton out of the bracket, he lost one fight, the hardest fight of his career and you make it out as if he is done for... Anyway I was watching the Amir Khan fight and it was a good knockout but not the greatest of opponents to brag about, though this should boast his confidence.

Cursing Strike 2008-12-08 19:54

it was great to see the golden boy turn to copper

Don't count on him making a fool of Hatton. Hatton is being trained by Floyd Senior.

He's proven he's the best Light-welterweight around, he's never been beaten in that class. It'd make for a great fight, thats for sure.

Westlo 2008-12-13 16:56

The way Hatton fights is perfect for Manny to pick apart... and if Floyd can knock out Hatton than Manny can for sure...

mg1942 2008-12-13 17:23

Check out this clip for those who are not subscribed to HBO.
We know who won but it's nice to see what went on behinbd close doors...

De La Hoya Pacquiao 24/7

Hatton has changed, and will change somewhat now that he has Floyd Senior in his corner. Things have changed since his fight with Mayweather. He didn't have any strategy...he just went in there..and did what he normally did.

I finally saw the fight the other day. De La Hoya was really poor. It was almost sad seeing him in such a state.

he may have been poor but you can't take anything away from Pacman. he went at him. unsettled him.

old Hatton was good enough to take out most boxers. Mayweather still picked him apart. Hatton could not really gain any headway. he may be diffrent now as i did not see his last fight but, i would still back Floyd and Pacman to beat him.

if he does fight against Pacman next then it will be a close fight but Pacman would come out winner. Hatton can punch but so can Pacman. it would be a good fight as both area toe-to-toe.

Hatton is a Light-welterweight, he moved up a weight division to fight Mayweather, a weight division he clearly wasn't comfortable fighting at, despite him having narrowly won a title in that class. He didn't use his brain either....he went in all guns blazing..as he said.

He is unbeaten at Light-welterweight, and totally dominated Paulie Mallinaggi..who was considered his closest rival.

It'll be a great fight.....maybe even an unforgettable one.

Tis' what they said about the Pacman and Golden Boy fight too.

I smell a knock out in rounds 9-12.

Wing Zero 2008-12-16 17:59

A Hatton vs Pacman would go to the end, well thats what I think. I'm really want Hatton to have another fight with Mayweather in a years time or so and I'm sure he would have learn't from his mistakes and give Mayweather a fight that will be much closer.

kayote 2008-12-16 18:56

^^^Mayweather would still take him. he is a very clever boxer and he knows what needs to be done to get the job done.

Yeah but that was only because De La Hoya was so poor in that fight. It won't be the case for Hatton who is on top of his game.

Wing Zero 2008-12-17 15:42

Now that I mentioned a Hatton vs Mayweather fight, it seems he may come out and actually give Hatton a rematch. Well thats what BBC news says for now, though the Hatton camp at the moment are looking to get with Pacman first.

MihawkXGP 2008-12-18 11:35

I suppose they could do the Hatton vs Pacquiao fight first..and the winner of that gets a shot at Mayweather.

Westlo 2009-02-01 02:02

lol @ Hatton still whining about the ref in his fight against PBF, saying he wants to fight in England and pick his own ref, smh @ him wanting to turn a boxing match into a wrestling match like he did against Kosta Tszyu

Sugar Shane Mosley was just impressive against Margs, I'll rather see Mosley Vs PBF than PBF vs that bum Hatton again.

kenjiharima 2009-05-03 00:12

Manny Pacquiao destroys Hatton 2nd round.

UNBELIEVABLE KO!!! I'll let the images do the talking. :twitch::eyespin:

Strygwyr 2009-05-03 00:52

All that trash talk that mayweather sr said to team pacquiao......now.......... they.......... just.......... got................SERVED!

kakakka 2009-05-03 00:55

Good job Pacman :)

The last puch really looks like a counter.

mg1942 2009-05-03 01:04

Wow that fight was short... I thought it wouldn't get any shorter than Pacquiao vs Morales from 2-3 years ago.

kenjiharima 2009-05-03 01:24

On December Mayweather VS Manny.

kramerica 2009-05-03 01:29

Paid $50 for 2 rounds :P Intense though. I though Hitman was doing alright - he was getting in some solid punches - but Pacman is just so fast. And the 2nd and 3rd knockdown punches looked plain brutal.

Or, just look at that gif again.
