Winner of the "1998 (The Second) Agency for Cultural Affairs Media Arts Festival award for excellence". Excerpt from the site giving the reasons for the award:
"This work is a music manga. You can almost hear the sound of the piano coming from the pages as you read. It is a convincing demonstration of how even "silent" manga can be used to express music. The delicate illustrations express the tempestuous emotions of the young girl and boy, while also creating a rhythm for the piano music. This work shows the new things that are possible with manga."

Nodame Cantabile (のだめカンタービレ) which I mentioned in my post here is not only geting an anime, but also a TV drama series :)

Its based on a josei manga thats serialized in the josei manga magazine Kiss.

I also forgot to mention this, but Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora is also getting a live action drama series too.

AV Idol Miku Ishida will star in the leading role. TV Tokyo will broadacast the series from Ocotber. The eight volume original novel has become a best-seller, with over one million copies sold. It's said the role of a selfish character who has trouble communicating with others will demand strong acting ability.
Its based on a seinen light novel that got serialized in the seinen novel magazine Dengeki hp.

The light novel has 6 volumes (not 8 volumes) and its finished.

Ooh, live action Mushishi. :D That would be interesting.

Another live-action TV series was announced!
According to ANS, there will be a live-action drama of the shoujo manga Yamato Nadeshiko Shichihenge (aka "The Wallflower" in the US). The live-action drama airs this October. An anime version will follow in January 2007. I can't wait to see it! :D It will probably be very similar to Nobuta o Produce, which was my favorite drama..... :D

The story is about a woman who lends her mansion to a group of young boys on one condition: they must turn her daughter (or was it niece? Granddaughter? I forget) into a nice lady. The problem? The young girl is basically the girl from The Ring :heh: Dark, scary, no social ability, locks herself in her room all day watching horror movies, keeps skeletons as pets, etc.... so it's quite an interesting comedy. :) I think a live-action suits it better, since the manga is awkward (the art isn't very good and the panel work isn't well done, in my opinion).

----------------------------------------------------------------

Another live-action series! Last year's popular live-action drama Hana Yori Dango will be getting another season. Viewers can log into the TBS website (station Hana Yori Dango will air on) to vote for which parts of the long manga they would like to see in this live-action season. :)

-----------------------------------------------------------------

More shoujo goodness! It's rare that a shoujo ANIMATED movie hits the theater screens, so I thought I would announce this movie:

Harukanaru Toki no Naka de ~Maihitoyo~ (official site) comes out in Japanese theaters August 19. It's a shoujo movie based on the popular game/TV series/manga. :) The animation looks so beautiful it brought a tear to my eye~~~~. This movie is a spinoff of the TV anime Harukanaru Toki no Naka de ~Hachiyoshou~, which is currently available on AnimeSuki (except only half of it has been subbed ~_~ Come on, subbers, go pick it up~ *_*)

In the process of touring the country, she uses the unique ingredients found in various areas to serve up many out-of-this-world dishes that will surprise viewers every week. In an Iron Chef sort of twist she must battle other chefs through culinary competition. The original manga ran for one year from April last year through June and two volumes are currently on the market. Did a quick search to see if this was announced earlier here, but came up empty. Excuse if I was wrong.

Planning to air in spring of 2007, "Maison Ikkoku" was announced earlier by ANN (and by others) with Misaki Ito-san playing Kyoko Otonashi. The part of Yusaku Godai will be played by 21-year old Taiki Nakayayashi-san, a college senior at Osaka Gakuin University. ("The Yomiuri Shimbon" and TV Asahi)

From the newspaper article, this will be Nakabayashi-san's screen debut, and was selected from 3200 applicants in auditions open to amateurs only.

Hmm well I got the idea from the post it was a special I was reffering to the series on which this live action special is based on . Well I have a ahunch it will be loosely based on the anime special Maison Ikkoku: Through the Passing of the Seasons which was released in 88 which is a recap of the whole series . Or it could also be 92 special which I have unfortunately not veiwed Maison Ikkoku : Prelude, When the Cherry Blossoms in the Springtime Return .

Also I do hope they retain some old tunes, Suki Sa by Anzen Chitai was my fave opening : )

In order to avoid hurting her best friend, Ayumu gradually lies about her superior test scores from Shii-chan. On the day the tests results are announced, Ayumu is shocked to discover that she passed into the high school of her choice, and Shii-chan did not. Shii-chan is outraged from the results, accusing Ayumu of betrayal and being reliant too much. The two best friends' relationship has been destroyed. Ayumu tries to alleviate Shii-chan's pain by cutting herself in the wrist. Ayumu cuts herself multiple times as a form of apology to Shii-chan. She begins to believe that the pains from the cuts are the only solace from all the agony she has been through. As the new school year starts, Ayumu carries an exacto-knife in her pocket for comfort. As the days go by, Ayumu has finally made a new friend at her new school, Manami Anzai. Manami is a cheery girl, and she talks mostly about her boyfriend. Manami's sometimes manipulative and unpredictable behavior flutters Ayumu. Manami seems to let Ayumu into her other group of friends, but Ayumu still has a hard time making good friends because she is afraid of hurting them like Shii-chan. One day, Ayumu makes plans to meet with Manami, and Ayumu finds that Manami had broken up with her boyfriend. Manami is shaken up, and she tries to jump in front of a train to kill herself. Ayumi saves her, but Manami seems to be more angry than thankful for being saved.
