*edit*

Now that I've stopped spazzing out, here's an article about the game:

[IGN] XCOM 2 Announced

On it, a supposedly utopian near-future government called the Advent Administration offered a better life for citizens through genetic enhancement, while hackers subversively replaced text and images revealing that Advent isn’t as benevolent as it seems.

Today, IGN First officially announces that the game 2K hinted at is in fact Firaxis Games’ XCOM 2, a full sequel to 2012’s critically acclaimed XCOM: Enemy Unknown and a continuation of the now 20-year-old legendary turn-based tactical squad combat series, which will be available exclusively on PC this November. Watch the debut trailer above for a glimpse into a future where the aliens are in control of the Earth, and XCOM has gone underground to fight to overthrow their Advent government. This new guerrilla force will face more powerful enemies in unpredictable combat scenarios as they fight to turn the tables on a technologically superior enemy.
Over the next month IGN will reveal huge details about XCOM 2, uncovered during our visit to Firaxis’ Maryland studio. Tomorrow you’ll get an in-depth overview and interview with Creative Director Jake Solomon that’ll highlight the major new features, including new soldier classes, new aliens, stealth-infused tactics, procedurally generated maps, and more. Following that, we’ll have a Rewind Theater examination of all the details in today’s trailer reveal with Solomon and Lead Producer Garth DeAngelis.

And, later this week we’ll go in-depth with Solomon and DeAngelis on the reasons behind the bold move to take XCOM from a multiplatform series to a PC exclusive, and how XCOM 2 will be tailored to take advantage of that single platform’s strengths – followed by Firaxis’ exciting plans to support modders and their work.

You might notice a lack of gameplay video, but fear not: in two weeks, we’ll debut the first in-game footage of XCOM 2 on our IGN E3 Live Show.

All of that and much, much more XCOM 2 is coming your way. As a huge XCOM fan, I couldn’t be more excited to tell you all about it.

ALL I COULD EVER WANT AND MORE :eek:

MrTerrorist 2015-06-01 11:00

So is it the same aliens from the first game or a new ones in XCOM 2?

Strigon 13 2015-06-01 11:01

Glad to see a thread for this one.

First day buy.

Also, MOD SUPPORT!!!

@mrTerrorist

It looks like there is some aliens from past XCOM games (the snakeman for example), I won't be surprised if we see in the future some kind of hyper mutated Chrysalid.

Lol, I played the first (modern) XCOM to the point where I burn out before I even finished the game.

It's not so much of the combat, but rather the base management.... fucking satellites >_>

erneiz_hyde 2015-06-01 15:36

Wait what? 20 years after the first X-Com? Alien controlled cities? What the hell happened?

Also, SWORDS.

Jazzrat 2015-06-01 19:18

Hopefully it won't be like the Civ series where every sequel becomes less of it's predecessor until enough expansion have been released :D

Surprised it's being revealed prior to E3 but i guess it's better than trying to hog the limelight against other big titles.

Base management is pretty straight forward boring once you figure out you need satelight coverage first and foremost above all else for the first two month.

Quite aside from 'Insurgency' being a possible scenario for the XCOM board game, this could be seen as a nod of sorts to 'V'. This should be interesting on general principles.

FlareKnight 2015-06-01 22:34

Ok, that does seem like a lot of fun.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this game turns out. Kind of cool we don't have to wait all that long.

The first game was solid fun and I'm sure this one will have those kinds of moments too.

travelingbum 2015-06-02 02:21

I just hope I don't go Overwatch behind a wall and then shoot at shit through it again like in xcom
damn wallhax

Well, that makes two of us who thought of that blast from the past. And I wouldn't be surprised if tucked away somewhere was at least one nod to a certain film in which 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper had the lead role.

And speaking of things tucked away somewhere, I wouldn't mind if the roster of apparel unlocks not only included ADVENT blacks (Completely Justifiable as a reward from a mission where the disguise was a necessity), but classic XCOM battledress and even EXALT's 'killer businesswear'. BTW, I never understood why that outfit was devoid of female operators; it's not like they can't make the look work... just ask a certain blonde.

And given that stealth is a bit more of a factor, I wonder if you can opt to configure magnetic (AKA gauss) weapons for 'covert' operation (high-subsonic muzzle-V; trades damage and some range for lower sound signature)...

Bonta Kun 2015-06-02 17:43

Only thing I really hope they expand alot on is weapons.

While I rather did like how the very 1st X-Com game handled it all I do wish it went further with the update but sadly it didn't go far enough for me.

The simplicity of conventional to laser to plasma is alright and works but really wish there was more to it.

Also wonder about UFO chasing, doubt thats really in the picture now.
If it's more about gathering intel and doing ground missions of your own choosing then that might be fun but I'd certainly miss blasting UFOs out of the skies.

Looking forward to this!

I'll wait until they announce the console port, game looks cool but I'm not I don't really care for pc gaming, still have Enemy Within for my PS3 and play it from time to time.

Actually Firaxis said that XCOM will remain as a PC exclusive for some time. Maybe that could change within the year.

About the maps, it was really about damn time to get some winter maps. Tired of always summer maps.
