Man I miss this franchise so much. Those movies need to hurry up and get here.

Well we have two bits of news. One, while the English cast dub is being announced (erm, Viz is announcing just a few voices every few days) the DVDs/BRs will not be out until early 2013. Despite that the film will premier in the UK in September and will have a dub and a sub, no idea if it's the US dub or not.

News with some new scenes for the movie...

Why did you watch Tiger and Bunny?

If Tiger and Bunny had its own subforum, I'd put this poll up there. Since it doesn't, though, the General Anime subforum strikes me as the best place for this.

Recently, there's been a lot of talk about Tiger and Bunny being a "Fujoshi title", and it's been implied by some people that the only reason people watched the show is because of how FABulous the titular leads are.

Well, this poll is meant to put these arguments to the test.

I know many people here watched Tiger and Bunny, and I'd love to know your main reason for choosing to watch it. Keep that main reason in mind, when making your poll selection.

I was first hooked by the premise of having a single-parent superhero as an MC. That itself worth some praise of being unique.

The overall story itself really didn’t disappoint for an action-superhero series, even though it’s the age-old formula of “brash dude + cool dude” pairing. The character designs are really cool too. The action is great. The unusual romance between the said single-parent MC with the young heroine is pretty sweet too :).

Yeah, I agree with all of that. Great points!

And yeah, I have to admit I did like the single-parent MC/young heroine romance of sorts. It was really cute at times!

I picked the third option. For the longest time I wasn't interested because if the super hero angle because I am tired of it in the US in general (although there are still some films I enjoy in this genre) and I expected the series to be more like those Madhouse/Marvel collaborations.

But I kept hearing good things about the series so I gave in and watched. What I wish someone had told me earlier was it was not just a super hero series but also a buddy cop show as I am a big sucker for those. I also love friendship stories. So yeah Kotetsu & Barnaby's relationship is probably my main reason for loving the series.

But don't get me wrong I did end up enjoying the super hero aspect and the other characters as well.

I also really loved that the characters were adults and Kotetsu was a single father.

Fabulous. You asked for it. ;)

This thread should be merged with the T&B thread anyway. It's not such a big deal or a truly separate topic.

But before that, don't you think you're kind of missing a certain key point here? Why do you think fujoshi equals bishies alone? Can't fujoshi like a show because it's a great show, and like it better because it has lovely, lovely bishies that are super slashable? It's the same as the perverted lolicons around here who like shows because they're great, and they're even greater with lolis!

The kind of empty fanservice that only has bishies or lolis going for them don't tend to last all that long in the public consciousness, while Newtype readers clearly dig T&B a lot more than Sunrise even thought possible.

So if there are a bunch of bishies to vote for in a character poll, a bishie in a good and popular show, like T&B is, is going to have far more pull than a bishie in a less good show. Doesn't mean fujoshis only like a show because bishies.

Allow me to demonstrate in pseudo don't-try-this-at-home python:

Code:

def charpoint(show, char):
  '''
  show and char are custom class objects
  '''
  charpoints = 0
  charpoints += show.calculatebasegood()
  if charpoints >= 5: # base level for all chars in a good show
    if char is loli:
      charpoints += 3
      print ('Go turn yourself to the FBI nao.')
    if char is tsundere:
      charpoints += 2
      print ('I- its not like I like this show or anything!')
    if char is bishie:
      charpoints += 4
      print ('FABulousdesu')
    if char is wincest:
      charpoints += 1 # too many neglected little sisters
      print ('Siscons of the world, unite')
      if show.mainloveint() == char: # now that's the real deal!
        charpoints += 6
    if char is yandere:
      print ('OH SH-')
      raise NiceBoatError
  else:
    print ('Your taste is bad and you should feel bad.')
  return ('This character's rating is: ' + str(charpoints))

I enjoyed it because of the narrative and comedy. It also was kinda far reaching with its storyline.

Yes, there is no doubt that the males were designed to appeal to fujoshi (hey Barnaby looks like Char, and thus sexy) though if one said that being fabulous was the sole appeal of the show, they might just be talking out of their ass. That's not very fabulous max at all.

HasuMasu 2012-11-16 03:30

Aw, the poll is gone.

But to answer the poll's question, I watched this because of the superhero gimmick, I only saw the fabulousness later. :p

animeisinteresting 2013-12-08 14:56

any word on a season 2?

Frontier 2013-12-08 16:24

In answer to the question, I'd heard good things about the show, and I personally love superheroes, so watching it seemed like a no-brainer :).
