I'm reading about the format and it seems there will be 10 normal eps in the TV series, 2 compilation eps, and 1 special ep.

FINALLY
thank god :heh:

I wouldn't normally like this anime but YES all I can say. What's a compilation episode? Is it like recap episode? Anyhow, it showed a lot of promise in that OVA with the liveliest animation.

Lord of Fire 2013-07-30 02:07

I loved the OVAs, will definitely watch the TV show next season.

LAboy 456 2013-09-06 08:09

Getting excited to see this as an anime series - the ONA and the OVA's were great, so I can't wait for it :)

Guardian Enzo 2013-09-22 22:13

Having caught up with the ONA and the shorts, I'm definitely intrigued.

Dr. Casey 2013-09-22 22:15

Is the guy in the bottom right corner the main girl's brother? They look related. That's uh, quite the facial expression he has there.

Nachtwandler 2013-09-22 22:42

Both guys in the corner are her brothers if I remember right

wandering-dreamer 2013-09-22 22:42

He and the guy above him are her familiars actually so *probably* no blood relation (I know a lot of people say brothers but I'm pretty sure the OVA series clarifies that they at least aren't human).

Kazu-kun 2013-09-22 22:52

Wandering-dreamer is right. The two boys aren't human, and there's no blood relation.

I have no idea what I just watched.

Feels a lot like FLCL or Abenobashi Arcade though.

No, it pretty much IS a Zany Gainax send-up. A whole lot of little visual details are right out of eps 5 & 6 of FLCL, actually. Add in a mix of a few of the other, truly quirky Gainax visual traits and you've got much of the charm of the series.

It's more somber (in some of the OVA episodes) and reflective than FLCL ever gave us, so don't expect your head to hurt. Just enjoy the crazy that does have a world-logic behind it. It'll just take a bit to get into it.

We also have a middle school aged Kugimiya Rie with a giant hammer. This is the series designed to make me squee like a fan-girl. I find that slightly annoying.

I'm obviously enjoying that this will be airing.

Guardian Enzo 2013-10-03 07:45

FLCL might never have been somber, but it was plenty reflective. If Kyousogiga gives us a quarter of that intellectual heft and emotional punch, I'll be thrilled. And I like Kyousogiga an awful lot as is.

There's certainly no denying the debt this show owes to Gainax, especially FLCL (and also a bit of Excel Saga too, though hardly anyone seems to remember it now). I haven't seen anything this wildly imaginative in quite a while. It's funny, as Gainax slowly swirls down the plughole their spirit seems increasingly to be popping up - in the obvious places like Trigger, but also the less obvious like Tatsunoko, Gokumi and Toei. And yes, there are a few Gainax veterans on the Kyousogiga staff.

Though barely anyone gives credit I think Kyousogiga can very intellectually stimulating.I find it to be like a weird modern interpretation of "Alice in Wonderland",it also seems to question whether the experiences we have in our own delusional world have any less value to real ones.

I agree - I'm just of the opinion that FLCL is among the most intellectually stimulating anime of all time. There's definitely something bittersweet and thoughtful about Kyousogiga, and with a full cour to expand on its ideas the writing may well catch up the visuals in terms of interest level. I'm just not seeing another FLCL based on the ONA and the five mini-eps.

There is manta that serve as prequel. I can summary if you want since I don't think k they will animate it

Totally the vibes I get from this, too.

zamas 2013-10-03 14:46

Happy to finaly get a serie for that. Loved the OAV, even though I'm not sure I understand everything about the story. I allways had some difficulty understandig the link between the 2 Koto. But it didn't prevent me from enjoying the action of the show. Koto slamming her hammer at every occasion is far from being a revolutionary idea but damn I like that.
