Title: To Aru Majutsu no Index

Alternate Title: A Certain Magical Index

Categories: fantasy, shounen, supernatural(with one LOLI main character)

Author: Kamachi Kazuma

Artist: Kogino Chuuya

Chapters: 3 - ongoing
Summary

The story is set in a world where supernatural powers exist through science, and magic exists through religion.

In the story, Tōma Kamijo is an ordinary high school boy with terrible academic scores and a power called Imagine Breaker. Imagine Breaker can defeat any other power, but it also undermines Kamijo's own good luck. His Imagine Breaker's immense strength is literally immeasurable, so hapless Kamijo is listed at the supernatural level of 0. He happens to meet a girl in white hanging off his window balcony. The girl says she is being chased by sorcerers, and Kamijō learns that the girl is a Church of England nun whose memories have been forcibly replaced by Index- Librorum-Prohibitorum - the 103,000 forbidden texts of the Church.

technomo12 2008-06-26 00:04

frubam 2008-06-26 01:21

tsundere!?!?!?

excelence 2008-06-26 02:12

probably :heh: ... anyway the plot was interesting and somewhat remind me with Chrno Crussade :/

serenade_beta 2008-06-26 03:16

On my way to reading Railgun, I ended up reading the three translated chapters out...
Mmm, I probably won't be following this manga.
1. There is an anime coming out this Fall for this very series (please visit the anime thread).
2. If I bothered to buy this, buying the novels would get me more material for the same (or close) amount of money.

As for the plot... can't say much (after all, only three chapters).
-Index has no impression on me since she only seems like a basic moeblob character
-Touma... No impression, really. Pretty basic "failure with special powers" man.
-Mikoto... The only one who had any impression, yes. Her personality, not so much, but loved her coin Railgun. :D

No... Index seems more like a moeblob character.
The tsundere would be... probably Mikoto. By the way, her electric ability is awesome! :eyespin:

(with one LOLI main character)
And at least two other loli characters as sub-characters. And Mikoto is flat too.

technomo12 2008-06-26 05:43

It's gonna be an anime huh? I'll still keep up with the manga until it comes out. If it's coming out this fall, it probably won't finish its manga run so it might extend past the anime episodes. Well, the translations probably won't get that far anyway, so it won't matter either way.

I thought techno and excel WERE talking about Mikoto >.>

excelence 2008-06-26 20:44

on my 1st post i'm reffering on that loli sensei that makes me OMGWTFBBQROTFL

on my 2nd i'm refering Mikoto :heh:

technomo12 2008-06-26 22:03

hmm sorry never actually read it yet i prefer reading them a day later hehehehe

so starting now im reading them

still the summary looks good enough but still if there is an anime i am going to watch it hehhe

Lured by Railgun-chan, I ended up reading the 13 chapters out (orz)...

I change my mind for now, and shall follow the manga for a while and see where it goes.

It seems they stuffed the first volume of the novel into the first 10 chapters.
Then, they skipped the entire volume 2! Which I don't mind, since it seems that the volume was a pretty big fail. Amazon (jp) reviews
That's what you get for writing a book in 17 days...

Anyways, and best of all, they skip to volume 3 of the novels, which has focus on railgun-chan and... a certain someone else.

Spoiler for someone else:

As a whole, it has been pretty decent so far.
A lot of powers are destructive and are very showy, but the thing is, that when every single character just seems to have the power to level a building or two, the impact really decreases... ( -_-)

That, and plus the fact the anime website already gave away the characters in the first arc and their powers.

Spoiler for thoughts on the first arc (chp1-10):

And now,
Spoiler for chp13:

technomo12 2008-06-27 01:35

well this manga shows us many way to be good or ebil

frubam 2008-06-30 02:24

Spoiler for chap 4:

I re-read the chaps again, and a question came to mind(particularly aimed at s_b since s/he read the Railgun manga). Why would Mikoto attack Touma(ch 1), even though he was running away from those thugs? Initially, he shows no abilities whatsoever, i would think she sees him as some coward, and not worth her time, yet she uses a powerful move on him right off the bat. Doesn't make any sense to me.

It makes more sense in Railgun, which is different.
Spoiler for Railgun version:

For this manga, it really does seem unreasonable, doesn't it...
I guess the reason for her attempted murder is:
1. He didn't know who she was. Mikoto-chan pride, 25 damage!
2. He's level 0. Mikoto-chan seems to dislike such a worthless guy...
3. Her personality.

Wasn't it mentioned before that Stiyl Magnus was physically inferior to... Probably anyone short of Index?

It's in his description.

In any case, Touma was pretty cool this chapter, I guess he could hold his own when it counts the mos.

If only he would stop trying to 'save' Mikoto :heh:

2. Which then just adds more damage to the previous point, -35 pt!

In addition, she still doesn't believe that he's a Lv 0 :heh:

Yeah, it did state that... but strangely, that description has disappeared from his profile on the official website... :eyebrow: When...?
But still, not sure if it is a good explanation to why an adult male got knocked out by a student in one hit...

:heh: Are you serious? Honestly, I can't tell if you're joking or if that's an actual ability :heh:.

Sounds more reasonable. I'm guessing there was more dialogue there? Now I'm getting tempted to check it out myself :).

Yikes, she's pretty scary, but that's more fun for us :).

Stiyl Magnus, if I recall correctly, is described as looking physically to be around 14-15 years old.

Bah, he's a clothie.

Clothies get one-shotted all the time.
