I'm pretty sure that image has a 99% chance of being Pixiv mecha fanart, given its general design and theme (its transformation is very reminescent of the Gundam Beast's style for one). I wouldn't call it an April Fool's joke, just a very good looking fanart.

Not to mention it breaks the usual manner in which new mecha designs from the show are revealed: we'd have seen it in hobby magazines if it was real. It reminds me of that "Seraphim 2" image that people thought was real and official, despite all the signs pointing that it wasn't. Only this time, the image is even more obvious about its origins.

In the first place, what is the source of that particular image anyway?

GN0010 Nosferatu 2012-04-02 14:28

It'd be a shame if it does turn out to be fake. It's a very good design, no flaws whatsoever.

Obelisk ze Tormentor 2012-04-02 15:02

I for one don’t mind if it is a fake. Yes, all the knifes & daggers are cool, but the knife-wielding-toes does not. It’s ridiculous even for a super-robot series, let alone a real-robot series. It’d be a lot less ridiculous if the designer just mount the knifes directly onto its feet like Chaos Gundam. That knife-wielding-toes rivals the “Nataku-destroying-MSs-with-just-a-burst-from-a-flamethrower” and "the-Knightmares'-ability-to-slide-freely-on-different-terrains-with-only-a-pair-of-wheels (in Code Geass)" for silliness.

Appel 2012-04-02 15:21

i agree. it looks pretty cool when its transformed but other than that it just goes too far overboard for me.

So MG Spallow's niche is that it has MORE set of swappable manipulators. The effect looks cool, now he looks more ninja-ish.

HasuMasu 2012-04-03 00:40

I would've laughed for real if the blade was a sticker yet again. :heh:

Of all the MG Age-1 MGs, I think it has the least plastic so I think they wouldn't have made it that cheap.

Yet Bandai didn't provide little ABS needles for the needle guns.

MG 1/100 AGE-1S Gundam AGE-1 Spallow - Dengeki Hobby (May Issue)

(Release Date: Apr. 26th 2012, Price: 3500 yen)

* Shigeru Blade has a clear piece and not a sticker. =D

RX93-2 2012-04-03 07:32

I always thought the spallow was an awesome design but that one dinky knife as only weapon felt silly.

Mk. II boxarts...
http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/2583/mkii.jpg

I thought Bandai would just change the colors for the boxes. Unexpectedly for a RG (and after building the Skygrasper tiny parts), that "headphone" camera is a foil sticker.

A better gallery at GG -> http://gundamguy.blogspot.com/2012/0...ew-images.html

duotiga 2012-04-03 09:39

is a 1st RG box for them showing with Shield mounted also

suiton629 2012-04-03 09:46

Of course they wouldn't change the boxart that much.

1. Costs more money for them.
2. The 2 mecha are the same, with slight variations here and there as well as a palette swap.

Now if they did a MG Exia R2, I wouldn't be surprised to see similar parts, boxart, etc reused. If we got a RG Exia, I would be surprised to see them reuse the same pose. I mean it'd be a new line.

Checking my boxes...you're right.:D Most likely to balance the differentiating weapons for the dual release.

Appel 2012-04-03 10:00

the RG boxes all have the same basic design anyway. there is no reason for them to change it now^^

-snip-

1. designing the box doesnt cost $$$. is printing. get your facts right

They are standardizing the RG boxart to be similar except RG Skygrasper

HasuMasu 2012-04-03 10:11

So one comes with the bazooka and the other with the rifle?

Or are they just mixing things up with the boxes?

both have beam rifle & bazooka. they are just differentiating the 2 sides with the same model

I was about to say that but it I make sighs instead (too disappointed to even mention it) But well, it looks good, at least.

Standardizing the boxart is actually what I want and I hope it'll continue for the rest :)

I figured so, but for a second I suspected they might go the HG Unicorn route by giving different accessories so people buy both. Not that it would've worked, but still. :heh::eyespin:
