Is that body a limited edition MG or was it modded from original...

They used the standard MG Freedom kit and modded it. There are no limited edition pre-modded gundam kits. >.>

Reason why I say 1/100 HG is because most of the Seed stuff are around the price I'm looking at. I was thinking either Astray Red Frame, Duel or the Blitz, any other sugguestions are welcomed and it doesn't have to be C.E. base MS either but since I don't build many models anymore or as often, looking for something that seems great for it's package.

Edit: Oh yea, as to the Destiny custom posted in this thread, it seems that its the same guy who did the black and white "innocent starter" Freedom that was posted in the previous Gundam Model Discussion Thread.

^Wins!!
But I will always like Innocent Starter Freedom more :D
I like how the modeller added more gold paint into the Strike-Freedom and YES!! He/She kept the original railgun styling on the hips too instead of the ugly round ones~

Does anyone know how good this Special Edition MG Freedom is? Is it really worth the extra odd $50 they ask for it?

Dark Lord Zenigame 2006-01-13 19:00

The only difference is that it has metallic plating instead of the normal coloration. I wouldn't bother with it, but there are people who would...

Sety 2006-01-13 19:38

But wouldn't Enamel paints give that kind of effect? (Well its more glossy) Or does it give a different kind of look after painting?

portgas D ace 2006-01-13 19:52

its like all metallic... not glossy/shiny...

k the special coating MG freedom (along with the special coating HG Impulse) are both not worth your money... if you're building it just for collecting sure... but if you wanna make the model look good... good luck, cuz when you extract the pieces from the sprues (runners), the mark left behind on your piece will need to be filed/sanded off... and doing that would scratch the chrome (almost always.. unless you recoat your entire finished gundam with another layer of chrome...)

in short, there will be plenty of scratch marks on your model.

SNT1 2006-01-13 21:35

if you really want a cheap extra finish freedom, buy the normal MG and some metallic spray paints. :)

dj898 2006-01-14 04:50

had quick session of prime the armours and quick reassembly of zaku after primer...

time to pull out air brush tomorrow provided the weather is fine. :D

and I switched the base to bigger one - thanks IKEA - to give more room for the railway track behind the bridge...

Thanks, I was thinking it'd be that kind of finish. That saves me alot as I can easily grab a MG Freedom and spend the rest on paints. I have a thing about grabbing the highest quality models only....so I wasn't sure if there'd be a significant difference.

Orath 2006-01-14 10:10

thanks Syn13, i have been looking for this guy for some time. and the funny thing i had his website bookmarked, duh.
this guy "塔炎一真" have a nice sense of modding kits. bandai should really hire him to do clean ups on the designs.

Nesty 2006-01-14 12:49

it's coming along nicely dj, keep it up :)

DarkWarrior 2006-01-14 13:53

The Extra Finish version is a huge waste of money IMO. Sure the metallic finish looks nice, but the snip/cut marks stand out pretty badly. Bandai should've attached the plastic pieces below so it wouldn't stand out, like the MG Hyaku Shiki.

Dalong.net has pictures of the Extra Finish Freedom looks like.. it really isn't pretty.

The problem is they would have had to create a new mold in order to move the connectors to the back of the parts. We all know that Bandai likes to resell kits using the same mold whenever possible (PG Strike/Rouge, MG Strike/Rouge) so changing the molds for the Freedom and Impulse was just not happening. Shame too, I like the look of teh Freedom and probably would have bought it to replace my other MG Freedom.

Fafnir 2006-01-14 15:06

Yep, add that to the fact that Strike rouge shouldn't even be a PG, considering that it isn't very popular at all. Pathetic.

Dunno about that.. Strike Rouge is still on the top 30 MS list, while the original Strike is nowhere to be seen. Of course, this is the same list that has Strike Freedom as number 1. :heh:
