Best Video Game Soundtracks
 

Admit it, some of us love to listen to gaming soundtracks that really give us the hype. Music ranging from action to epic appear on all sorts of video games but which type of music attracts you? My best candidate for great music is Chaos Legion, especially the the music during the Prologue stage.

I listen to alot of fighting game soundtracks only on my PS3 though. Like Battle Arena Toshinden 2, Street Fighter EX, Guilty Gear. In terms of certain soundtracks, I'll go with Xenosaga 3. I enjoy godsibb, maybe tomorrow and I love you sincerely from Xenosaga 3 soundtrack.

Kaioshin, most of your list sounds about right. But damn you're really not including SRW music?

Super Mario 64 Dire Dire Rocks - This is a timeless melody i'll never forget for the rest of my life.
The Legend of Zelda - Just too many great tracks across all games.
Diddy Kong Racing 64 Boss Theme - Many tears of frustration were shed and controllers destroyed...

Seems like you're really looking forward to FFXIII though, despite saying new games suck :p

this is a easy question, Guilty Gear XX in N.Y.: Vocal Edition.... well and Devil may Cry 3/4 sound tracks are awesome too, but Guilty Gear XX in N.y, has "Noontide Sol Vs Ky's theme, which is bad ass reincarnated :heh:

There are quite a few of them, in some games there is always one or two songs that I liked. But if I have to chose from one where I liked most of the music from game soundtrack, definitely I would chose Wild ARMs series. To be precise, the first three.

For me, Xenogears hands down. The RPG is about 60 hours long mostly filled with dialogue. And there were only about 8 tracks played through most of of the scenes. Yet every piece of music fit the scenes perfectly. The important part is that because each piece is so great, they were able to recycle them over and over without irking the player. That IMO is just incredible.

They're from FF8. Just a mislabel there. One of my favorite soundtracks from one of my favorite game.

I have not played at much video game but for what I played Xenosaga 3 and the Myst serie ( I can tell at least for the first 3 game) would have my vote.

If he thinks new games are bad, then how can he have FFXIII so much in his mind that he mislabels FFVIII.

I'll list mine by genre:

RPG: Final Fantasy 6. Various picks of the FF series have great music as well.
SRPG: SRW series always had great music. SRW:OGS gathered the best since its everyone.
Fighting: Guilty Gear series, I love Bridget's and May's theme most.
Action/adventure: Castlevania series

Hoho, those are my favorite, too. Baiken's is also pretty cool.

Well I love a lot of game soundtracks, to narrow it down to a couple:

Ever17: The Out of Infinity: I absolutely love Karma and Der Mond Das Meer.
Metal Gear Solid (series): MGS2 introduction and Duel from MGS hold a special place in my heart.
Valkyria Chronicles: Simply beautiful soundtrack all round and Rosie's song... Damn.

And as much as I hate to admit it, the HALO games have brilliant soundtracks.

The Best Soundrack for me is clearly the Ar Tonelico one ! Phantasmagoria, Exec Linca etc... just *_*

Going to have to second the Chrono Trigger mention.

Also agree that the music for Xenogears and Xenosaga I were both very well done.

Oh Yes the Xenogears one is very good too ! Small Two of Pieces *_*

And the Super Mario Galaxie one too !
