UQ Holder (Ken Akamatsu's new series)

The new manga by Ken Akamatsu the writer of Love Hina and Negima.

Figured I should get one going for this rather than only talk about it in the Negima manga discussions.

Spoiler for potential spoiler:

bludvein 2013-08-23 11:27

I thought the setting was only 10 years after the end of the masquerade?
Spoiler for ....:

Von Himmel 2013-08-23 11:30

Since it's 10 years after magic was known and IIRC considering that magic doesn't seem to become public yet in negima end (at least not completely), it's possible that it's not actually 10 years after negima but a couple of years more.

chaosprophet 2013-08-23 11:33

You know, if that spoiler is true:
Spoiler for theory:

OP should change the topic title so people will know this is Ken's new work.

Eva... All grown up, or just an illusion?

-spits out drink-

Spoiler for reaction:

Lisemer 2013-08-23 13:16

n the non-colored panel, Eva says she is 700 old, more or less the same age she had in Negima, so this should be in the same century, just a few years in the future...

Wait, I think it's ambiented in this year, 2013. That's because every Akamatsu work is ambiented in the year it started (like 1999 Love Hina and 2003 Negima)...

bones 2013-08-23 13:22

If that's the case then Negi should be about 18 to 20 years old and current Asuna should be sealed while future Asuna should have come back to the past and be around 20+ years old.

LoweGear 2013-08-23 15:04

Spoiler for What the hell is going on here?!:

ZeroForever 2013-08-23 15:04

hmm so is this a alternate universe version of negima?

makes sense given the split time line factor in negima but still confusing as heck, guess we will see as it proceeds.

Actually near the end of the Magic World arc Eva said she was 600. Of course, in both cases she probably don't mean exactly values. But I would expect this to be at least 50 or so years afterwards. There is also the hint that Eva may have been born during the 100 years war (chachazero comment when Eva is telling her story during chapter 109), and quoting someone else:

Quote:

Evangeline was born during the Hundred Years War, which makes her between 550 and 666 years old during the events of Negima
If she's exactly 700 years old now, that means UQ Holder is set sometime between 2037 and 2153, which means the cast of Negima is either over 50 years old or just plain dead and forgotten
Another possible direction I think this may take:
Spoiler for late Negima:

bones 2013-08-23 17:11

Well, that depends on whether she was born in the 1300's or the 1400's.

Sumeragi 2013-08-23 17:14

I don't quite like the art shift. Late Negima is what I consider Ken-san's golden style.

Spoiler for What:

I swear, if he uses this to kill the whole Negima cast off...

I mean, first that ending, now that would be like stomping on the series' grave and going to kick its fans in the crotch.
