There is absolutely no way I'll be ever able to draw/ CG like Kichigai-sama. She's just 19, too. :sigh:

i always check the deviantart tutorials to see what the "good" artists have to say about stuff. Anyway, I found this, which I find extremely useful.

i usualy do this:

(layer1) paint a base colour for the hair,

with an other layer (layer2) i do the shadows (it must be block-like, because if you try and smooth it the hair will look strange),

now, again on "layer1" with different tones of the same colour, you start to model the hair so it looks 3D.

now you only have to determin from where the light comes from, on "Layer1" put some light... dont worry if you put too much because you will also have to smoodge it..........

buffffff... jejejej kind of difficult, but if u do this, and if u spend a long time mixing colours etc...etc... you will have acmplished you "mission"

sorry if i've been too boring :)

Just like everything else, use layers. Like this:

Yeah, I should really put together that tutorial I keep putting off.

Raxial 2004-02-02 09:54

really, do it. Then we can actually ask the maker of the tutorial questions if we need clarification :) Yay!

I suggest look at some real hair to see the highlights and shadows they create and to copy that. Hair is a form, not individual elements. It's the highlights and shadows that makes it seem as detailed as it is.

oh, and here's another really good one, which I'm gonna try to follow on my next project.
