Infinite Stratos 2 - TV Anime Sequel Announced (News & Speculation, No Spoilers)

At the All Night Infinite Stratos event on 2013/04/20, it was announced that Infinite Stratos is getting a new anime entitled Infinite Stratos 2.

Here is the official site for the new anime.

Original post: Overlap Bunko's campaign page showed an illustration of one of their magazines that states:
New Infinite Stratos Anime Green-lit!

This does not confirm that it will be a S2 nor that it will be a reboot. This is all the information we have available at the moment. New episodes will be coming.

Edit: Overlap Bunko has replaced the image I linked to. Here is an earlier version with the text.

It could also just be an OVA.... You know, to screw around :p

It clearly calls it out as a "TV Anime", so not just an OVA in that case. But as was said, the content is the real question. With the novels having changed publishers, it's sort of weird to do a direct sequel to the first season, which would in part generate BD/DVD sales for the old publisher (unless somehow they also got the rights to republish the old anime themselves, but that seems impossible...). Still, I'm not sure if there's much else to gain by rebooting the anime and re-covering that old ground. I guess we'll see...

Still no confirmation whether its a season 2 or a reboot? Anyway I'm still looking forward to it.

Sumeragi 2013-04-08 09:23

If it's the same studio, I don't see the point of a reboot.

Chaos2Frozen 2013-04-08 09:24

Especially when the last one didn't do badly at all... In terms of sales.

Sumeragi 2013-04-08 09:25

*Hugs Char tightly*

Either way, more Kana-chan for me

demino_hellsin 2013-04-08 09:26

What if they have to adapt the new artstyle?

Sumeragi 2013-04-08 09:27

Why should they?

demino_hellsin 2013-04-08 09:29

*scratch head* well I guess the old illustrator doesn't necessarily work for the old publisher and art style doesn't have copyright or royalty fees.

Chaos2Frozen 2013-04-08 09:36

Animes have their own character designers to adapt for animation.

HasuMasu 2013-04-08 09:42

Eh? It's too early for Christmas.

relentlessflame Watching IS...somehow I'm not sure what to think of that.

Kirayuki 2013-04-08 09:42

Even if they decide to adapt the new art style, it doesn't really mean reboot.

Ken Sanders 2013-04-08 09:52

Oh my god.....

Tears won't stop falling from my eyes (sniff)........

I'm so glad that IS has a new anime project. My prayers didn't fail me.

I'm so damn happy, man!(sniff)

This is really awesome news. I hope that however this new one turns out it's just as enjoyable as the last one. That's all I'm looking for mostly in this series.

Yye1 2013-04-08 11:45

I wonder if they will adapt up to cannonball fast, i really enjoyed that part

Yeah, I thought of this at first too but...

I think this is right. If you recall the promo items Overlap made available at C83, they were all using the anime character designs. So, although they're not using the original illustrator for the novels, they seem to be able to use the old anime character designs.

Maybe they'll include Natasha this time.

S.Freedom 2013-04-08 16:18

It'd be kinda hard since the silver gospel in the anime was supposed to be unmanned. Not unless the anime team does a minor retcon saying they where misinformed or something.

Anyway I'm more interested in Kanzaki and Tetenshi than anything else. Seeing how that's done should be interesting.

Sumeragi 2013-04-08 16:19

They could just say that it was unmanned with the intention of having a manned version.
