Bottle Fairy and Kanon. What are those hats called?

Quick question...

You all have seen (what I call) the flour-sack hat which Chiriri in Bottle Fairy and the "Uguuu" girl in Kanon wear.

What's the name of that thing? Do gals actually wear it?

I have no idea what those are called.

I just finished Kanon 5 minutes ago... I have a question...am I the only one who cried during episode 12? I cried twice there, middle and then end =(. So sad...

monpuchi 2003-11-20 23:43

Wandering_Youth 2003-11-21 02:20

Hmm not sure what you are talking about. Do you mean the hat she is wearing in this picture? One more thing, her name is Ayu not "Uguuuuu" girl. :)

I really don't know the answer to your question, but I guess some people wear it.

I just remember the uguu. :) And looking at the URL of the image above, it seems the person who put the image on the web thought that was more memorable too. :D

I seem to have gotten a lot of "I dunno's", and a number of people are looking at this thread. :) I guess there are more people than me Curious about this hat.

At the risk of getting people mad at me, I don't like the hat. I can't say why, I think it looks stupid. :(

It look sort of like a hat with cat ears to me. I need rewatch Kanon again. :)

Btw, what does Ughuuu and Auuuu means in Japanese? I don't understand Japanese, buy I don't think I have heard them being used in japanese conversataion. It's madeup by the producers isn't it?

One thing is these expressions make the characters so cute. :D

I couldn't find anything like the hat on Google... could be that I don't know what to look for.

I'm wondering if the hat was invented for Kanon, and Chiriri's hat is a coincidence. It's such a simple design, though. :(

As for the "Uguu" stuff, I think I've heard that in an anime before, though I can't remember which. :eyespin:

Uguu and Auu dont mean anything. They are made up sounds to make the characters sound cute.

Wandering_Youth 2003-11-21 18:07

Yeah you heard that a lot in animes like Chobits, Angelic Layer, CCSakura and a whole bunch of other animes. It's just to make the female characters more adorable.

kj1980 2003-11-21 19:58

there is no name for that hat...it's just a girl's hat that is somewhat popular in Japan.

Nothing Special 2003-11-21 21:10

Those hats have a vague resemblance to something a jester would wear.

Nothing Special 2003-11-21 21:21

Ooh, look what Google turned up. Kawaii! ^_^

Oh you pervert, thats not cute at all. Those kids propably carry some contageous disease or something...

Well anyway. Babies with hats are just wrong.

Tboz 2003-11-22 05:37

Ic... thanks for the clarifications... the baby is cute though... :heh:

kiyone 2003-11-22 21:46

In the PS2 dating sime game YUMERIA, NENEKO is wearing that same hat.
http://www.yumeria.com/chr/neneko/index.html
and her hat has something special...
http://data.yumeria.com/chr/neneko/m...neneko_adv.mpg

YUMERIA is scheduled to air in January.
In the anime, the hat design will be changed a little.

Kempis Curious 2003-11-23 00:38

I'm starting to think (based on kiyone's response) that Chiriri's hat is a toned-down version of the jester's cap. Ayu's might be even more simplified, though I remember she had to arrange it in order to get the cat-ear look.

kj1980 has seen this things in RL?
