Macross Frontier Manga Discussion

http://c.imagehost.org/0323/8999.jpg

The Macross Frontier manga adaptation had begun publication in Kadokawa Shoten’s Monthly Shonen Ace Japanese manga magazine in the February 2008 issue. I guess it is safe to assume that there is more than one person behind the manga since there is no mention of an author. Macross-fans don't need a synopsis, but for formality's sake here is one in the following stolen from AniDB:
Macross F sets out in the year 2059 A.D. The "F" is short for "Frontier", which is also the name of the migration fleet this story is about. We join the fleet's journey when the concert of the famous pop-idol Sheryl Nome, is just around the corner. Sheryl is visiting Frontier from Macross Galaxy (another colonization fleet), on her tour around the galaxy.

Just like with the Macross Seven migration fleet, the main ship is a huge city-dome. This is the home of the majority of the fleet's population, on the scale of 10 million people. It is a place where they can live life, just as they would back on Earth. However peace is soon broken when strange alien creatures attack the fleet, just when Sheryl's concert is well underway.

What could it be that have drawn them to this fleet? Is Sheryl the only one on board with a talent for singing? What secrets will we learn about the past? And what cool new Valkyries will be revealed for this show?
Have a merry discussion.

Does anyone know what the 3rd manga series is about? I think it's replacing the Ranka Lee sidestory manga. (was that a one shot or something?)

Situations are a bit different... but as of the moment I'm liking how the Anime is progressing, better.

ani_d 2008-06-30 05:42

Judging from the translations, I absolutely love the manga. The anime seems to have more depth but both have their own charms.

Interesting. I'm not sure who's the focus this time, but I have an idea. :)

"Macross Frontier: Dakishimete, Ginga no Hate made" = Exact same line Ranka said when she arrived in that VF with Mikhail. ^_^

Macross Frontier: Embrace, to the end of the galaxy.

SymphonicRain 2008-06-30 09:07

Ugh. More cutesy drawing style for the manga.

Why can't they hire the author who drew Macross 7 Trash instead?

Because Haruhiko Mikimoto (who is the sole character designer for the original MACROSS) is a big shot, and big shots are expensive. He volunteered to draw 7's TRASH :p Nobody hired him to do it last time I checked.

Well it is not like i dont like these kind of chara design but i dont like it for a serie like macross... as for comedy series i would like these "cutesy" drawstyle (e.g Lucky star) but for serious drama like Macross is a nono for me.

ReddyRedWolf 2009-12-10 13:17

Look who visited Frontier...

Shiroth 2009-12-10 13:38

Yeah i remember hearing about that, though i never did see the image. Thanks for sharing ReddyRedWolf.

Just wondering, does anyone know how the manga Macross F ended? I heard that it was an AltoxRanka end, and I wanted to know whether that was true or not.

triangler_fans1 2010-01-08 21:03

I'm scan the image from Isamu and Alto's father.

Can you do a detailed summary? :)

wisteria233 2010-09-05 18:08

The Sheryl manga seems to be taking after the movie canon. Through out the manga I'd have to say that the key word you hear the most in this manga is the "live".

Spoiler for for the manga and Sheryl's past:

To be continued....

wisteria233 2010-09-05 18:41

Continued...
Spoiler for For the end of the manga:

I'll post my actual thoughts on the manga at a later time.

magnuskn 2010-09-05 20:41

Woah. And I mean, woah! So much for Yot-Chan's idea that the Sheryl manga is mostly fluffy bunny stuff. :twitch: :p

The fact alone that Galaxy had implants being mandatory, with prison/death penalty in case of refusal, is pretty damn huge and makes my idea that we'll get a human/cyborg conflict in the next show much more likely.

I had more thoughts, but since this takes after movie continuity, most of them were invalidated by me not having an idea how that continuity pans out. If that had been the series continuity, some of the stuff would have been huge.

And, well, childhood meeting between Sheryl and Alto averted. So far, at least... :D

Ah, I misremembered. You actually said that about Macross F: Visions, which had come out in Macross Ace. Mental snafu of mine, I fear. :heh:

Ah, THAT one. I wouldn't exactly call it "fluffy bunny" material...more like high school hijinx and lots of fan-service.

It's a pity, too, since it's apparently plotted by Hiroyuki Yoshino. The art's nice, though.

Is the art available anywhere? :p

raile 2010-09-07 06:09

Yeah, I just read the scanlated first chapter, great art and nice story. :p
Lylith/Lilith looks like a young actual female Alto (perhaps done intentionally?).
I'd like to have a drama CD on this, despite the very slim chance of that happening, it'd be cool to hear Lylith/Lilith's voice.

Also....Sally is a MILF. :D

Various info I got from the LN thread and drama cd is that Sheryl's parents were political opposition to the cyberfication of Galaxy. The whole plan for galactic domination was way before the Executives recruited Grace.

Grace only became aware of Sheryl after she was downloaded, by this time Sheryl was at the streets. The Executives being a vindictive and sadistic bunch enjoy watching her suffer.

Woah, again. I must say, a smashing start by all accounts. I hope Raile has the link available. :)

Mercí beaucoup. Man, I gotta spread some reputation around, so I can give you some more. :)

magnuskn 2010-09-07 08:01

Soooo... the other Kabuki actor in the play isn't called out by name, but he(?) plays a female and, mangas being mangas, it isn't too far off to say that he conceivably could be Alto. :D Although the looks don't seem to be right, so maybe not. :p

But, damn, good manga, good reading. :)

Nah Alto's constant whining indicates he's never been off the fleet.

One way or another word of these political purges must have come out. Even if they are not for public consumption. In the LN Aegis Focker and his squadron was specifically sent to Frontier to monitor Galaxy activities. It would explain why in the Movie continuity Galaxy is treated like a rogue state. It has a wonderful human rights record compared to all other emigration fleets. <sarcasm>

OH NOES!!! MY JAPANESE MANGA IS IN JAPANESE! WHATEVER SHALL WE DO???

Also, I dunno about you, but I find the term "Moonspeak" to be...kinda racist.

BetoJR 2010-09-07 11:19

I find it charming. I mean, the moon is kind of a big deal for me. ;)

ReddyRedWolf 2010-09-07 13:44

You know it makes sense Grace would rescue Sheryl from a sexual predator. LN thread mentions Ozma saving Grace from almost being raped by some marines.
