‘Pacific Rim 2′ Confirmed for April 7, 2017 Release

Quote:

Guillermo del Toro has committed to making a sequel to “Pacific Rim” with Universal scheduling the release on April 7, 2017.

Zak Penn will write the script with del Toro. Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni once again produce alongside del Toro, Mary Parent and Callum Greene. Jillian Share will exec produce.

“Pacific Rim 2,” which will be released in 3D and Imax, is the first title to land on the April 7, 2017 date.

“Pacific Rim” was directed by del Toro and starred Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day and Robert Kazinsky. Thurday’s announcement did not indicate whether the actors will reprise their roles in the sequel.

Wait... a(n animated) TV series and a Movie, this is good news.

Esclair 2014-06-26 23:26

It looks like domestic US gross is less meaningful now that the world market (especially China) is growing more influential.

There's so much potential in the series. They could easily make a TV series about the beginning of the Kaiju war.

Not to mention now that Universal Studios is onboard they'll probably make a "Jaeger ride":heh:

A sequel and an animated series? I wasn't sure we'd even manage to get a sequel, but this announcement is better than I ever could've hoped for :D!!!

Thank you international markets :heh:.

Though what I'm most interested in for the moment is the animated series, what the story for it will be, how it'll be animated, and what the release for it will be like.

Looking forward to more Jeager vs. Kaiju action, and I'm especially looking forward to seeing the new Gipsy Danger in the sequel .

More Pacific Rim? YESSSSS!

Guido 2014-06-27 03:42

As a great man always says, YIPPEE-KI-YAY :D

About the animated series, do you think it would be in anime-style format like those American animated shows from back in the 1980's? or maybe an anime series for Pacific Rim?

Second, about the second film it could work as a prequel to the first one. Introducing and exposing Pentecost's past in the Kaijuu war following two time periods: 2013-2014 & 2015-2019, and it could serve to introduce and expose characters that are in the comics but not in the first film.

Chaos2Frozen 2014-06-27 03:44

It would make sense for it to be in Anime style, but it's probably more likely to be standard American animation I think... Either that or Madhouse again like the Marvel Animes =_=

Why isn't suspended animation a thing, so I can wake up in 2017 and watch it already?!?!?!?!?!?!!

Edit:

Look who else is excited for this:

He's already offered to make the animated series' OP it seems.

I think the US market is still heavily important due to the way profits are actually allocated to the studio, though the foreign gross undoubtedly helped. I think the recent Godzilla movie doing well influenced Legendary on okaying a continuation. With that having done well, it's easier to argue that there isn't some kind of aversion among movie goers for Kaiju flicks. And Pacific Rim could have had a more effective marketing strategy overall.

Those facts make another Pacific Rim movie as not totally outlandish.

. This must be the best thing ever!!!!!. And not just a sequel but also an animated series!. If they do it right then we can probably dream about a SRW game with Jaegers someday :D.

solidvanz 2014-06-27 23:13

More Kaijus and Jaegers? Animated series as well? Bring it on, del Toro!

Pretty much.

FlareKnight 2014-06-29 23:45

Well that is nice news though :). Regardless of how it got the green light for a sequel, I'm glad it got there.

Let's just hope that this time they do a heck of a lot better job advertising this thing. If they can't beat out the equal to "Grown Ups 2" this time I will just sigh.

Let's see where they go with this.

Well the first movie already established a foundation that can be built up from.

Then if you add in the TV series and comics and such that should spread it.
