Zero no Tsukaima Licensing Discussion

Geneon has announced the license for Zero no Tsukaima (The Familiar of Zero) at Anime Boston 2007.
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/conv...anime-boston/2

As they claim it's a 13 episodes series, it would seem the license doesn't include the second season (due this fall). The license was previously hinted at by an accidental Diamond Distribution listing. While Geneon denied the accuracy of that listing, the fact that it did turn out to be true gives Maria-sama fans hope (Maria-sama ga Miteru was also listed in the same way).

As this series is a "MFI" series torrents were never listed on AnimeSuki, nor was it allowed to list download links in forum threads. This obviously continues now the series has been licensed.

MOD EDIT: The discussion for Sentai Filmworks licensing of Zero no Tsukaima f starts here. :)

TigerII 2007-04-21 13:21

Yeah, not much changed on getting to watch them. Am glad though they didn't grab the second season, heh.

Danny_river 2007-04-26 09:28

I can only wonder who they're going to choose to do the voices.

Potatochobit 2007-05-04 05:06

Does the DVD version contain any different material than the version that aired on TV?

Zhemos 2007-06-06 01:07

Anyone know the release date of the first DvD?

No info yet. Check out AnimeOnDVD,either their forums or Upcoming Releases.

They might have some news if you search their forum. Familiar of Zero (aka Zero no Tsukaima) was listed in Diamond's Previews recently but it appears it was a mistake.

Zhemos 2007-09-27 12:53

It doesn't look like we'll be seeing Zero no Tsukaima in North America for a while yet.
Geneon seems to have went under. :(

Kusion 2007-12-12 20:09

According to IGN, Geneon has "left the anime market" putting Zero no Tsukaima out of it's license, and up for grabs to any other company.

I don't know if it's true or not. Can it be?

Fans of the original series, as well as the recent follow-up season, shouldn't feel too bad about keeping their hopes up.

This has been discussed at length in its own thread, but the short answer is that Geneon stopped distributing anime (i.e. selling it to retailers/stores, who sell it to consumers), but so far they haven't stopped producing it (i.e. handing out contracts for translating, voice acting, etc.). We know that Zero no Tsukaima in particular is still being produced (as the person timing the official subtitles has posted here on AnimeSuki), but how and when it'll get distributed hasn't been announced yet.

So, it's still licensed, and it's still being worked on. That's all we know right now.

Some of the voices has been revealed!

Rising Dragon 2008-07-05 16:56

Really? I didn't find anything wrong with Louise's voice.

Kirche's English voice actor suits her.

Louise's voice actor is way off. It doesn't sound like a "wealthy-spoiled-brat". :eyespin: :D

Granted, its only one scene you see her in, and that scene's in the last episode of the first season anyway, so that's a poor time to judge a voice actor.

Sexy time is always a great way to judge. :D

crystalalien87 2008-07-05 18:04

well i guess i have to get use to it...but i think a more aggressive voice like ummm...Flay Allster (in her mean attitude) from gundam seed...Tabitha St. Germain does her...

Rising Dragon 2008-07-05 18:05

Well, all you can do is wait until the series is released. One scene isn't nearly enough to see how well Cristina Valenzuela will do as Louise.

crystalalien87 2008-07-05 18:28

god knows when that will be lol....but ill be first in line to buy it lol...but yea you're right...even if i dont like it i will watch it dubbed anyway cuz im lazy...BTW any ideas on how long they usually take for dubbing? it wont be till next year when this comes out? and i hope they have more then 2 episode on each dvd cuz i think in the japanese dvd they only had like 2 or 3 episodes for each dvd....but ill still buy it regardless so im just asking out of curiosity...

Oh maybe they will dub Season two...that would be nice...

It probably won't be all that long -- they've been working on the production over these last months (which is why you have voice clips now). I wouldn't be surprised to see it before the end of the year. And I assume there would probably be more like 3 or 4 episodes per DVD, as that is more the norm for the R1 market.

Abashi 2008-07-29 18:07

How do I watch it? I searched for it on Netflix, but it was not there.

Perhaps if you read the post above yours you would notice the DVDs have not yet been released.

You won't find them at Netflix yet because the DVDs do not exist at this point in time. The release date is still unknown.

I see. So when its released on DVD, it should be available on Netflix then. Will this appear on US television on any channel?

Spoiler for off topic::

It's not release?? - but you can buy the import DVD for the first series that has english subbed...the other series well until the Geneon releases them or another buys the rights we just have to wait some other Anime company buys the rights to release them in the US.

No, what you refer to as "import DVDs" are in fact bootlegs, illegal. For more on "How to spot bootlegs" I suggest you have a read of the opening post of the The "Where do I buy..." Thread. At this point in time the official English DVDs have not yet been released.

This comes from a site that sells both import and domestic dvd online...and its a site I checked on to find what coming out. It's not english dvd but subbed title dvd with Japanese voice. That site is still there so I doubt they are selling bootleg DVD.

crystalalien87 2008-09-01 20:18

hey guys guess what i found... this is really important so hopefully i wont get in trouble...

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/ency...s.php?id=12472

typhonsentra 2008-09-28 15:33

Wait, they're releasing it as a whole box set? No way that'll happen right? They always milk these things.

crystalalien87 2008-09-28 16:34

ummm one dvd with the series box to hold the dvd's...

ayu 2008-09-28 20:26

hmm i don't think so, according to amazon it is the entire season in three disks along with the box. i'll be getting that though the logo on the box looks kinda weird =s

Yup, this is correct. Going straight to boxset is sort of the new trend in this tough market for all but the most popular of shows. Hard to believe that you can get the entire first season for the cost of one of the Japanese DVDs -- quite a deal!

typhonsentra 2008-09-30 15:17

Maybe. At first I thought it was just a result of the show having finished production so long ago but Geneon not having a distribution method until recently. But then you look at how Funimation has been releasing shows lately (One Piece namely) and yeah, it appears to be the direction they're trying to take things down. Great news for those of us who complain about prices! :)

crystalalien87 2008-09-30 16:19

wow i guess i read it wrong...ususally anime doesnt come out like that... well at least the shows i watch....thats even better :) gonna reserve ASAP lol

darkchibi07 2008-10-30 22:01

Check out some of the dub clips here:

crystalalien87 2008-11-01 12:52

SAITO sounds terrible lol

Meru 2008-11-01 14:17

Saito sounds pretty laaaaaame, but everyone else sounds pretty good!!! I knew Cristina Vee would make a great Louise, so I'm really excited for this (and that's saying something, since I don't really do dubs)!! :3 Only a few more days~

I don't know, Derf/Guiche sounded really bad to me otherwise I agree with you.

ayu 2008-11-04 08:11

Saito's voice is too deep imo.

Noe 2008-11-04 18:48

Can't wait to get the DVD version, yay.

)v(anic 2008-11-13 02:00

haha i had this pre-order 3 months ago when funimation had their 40% off sale.

the dub was actually really good. Saito isnt that bad i got used to it, Guiche was a little harder to get used to nothing too horrid, lol the only really really bad voice is the school leader elder. I hope the plan on releasing season 2 and 3 as well guess we wont know for a lil while.

RadiantBeam 2008-11-15 12:23

Took me awhile to adjust to their dub voices, but I have no real complaints. I'm definitely planning on buying this once it's released, looking forward to it. :D
