I like it, is my type of anime, so I think that I know where this is going, but I will stick.

Interesting... thank you for bringing that over.

The Tragedy of Sagami Bay seems that will be important later.

Some "analysis" I did based on on Swordsmanship Tournament. I don't know ALL the terms, but one should be able to find out how each style works.

Kaoru and her massive sword, for example, uses the fighting style Yakumaru Jigen-Ryu (as with other Jigen-Ryu styles) that focuses on the ONE BIG STRIKE. Apparently in Golden Kamuy, one character warns another to NEVER try to parry a strike from a Jigen-Ryu practitioner, else one would receive two swords on its head.
Kanami's style focuses on reading enemy movements and outwinning them on each clash. This would explain why Sayaka lost; she kept on engaging Kanami, allowing Sayaka to be "read". The episode would also show Kanami's immense insight, recognizing fighting styles just by seeing one kata on display.
Mai's style, Hokushin Itto-Ryu, has a principle where "a perfect technique should contain defense and offense in one action". Kanami attested to this, noting that Mai's Seigan (the basic combat stance) was unbreakable. Mai also attempted this on Kanami using the seiza position, forcing Kanami to attack instead of respond with Mai preparing for a defense strat—alas, she lost because Kanami was simply too knowledgeable about Mai's combat style.
Hiyori is quite formidable with her Kashima Shinto-Ryu, which is based on practical responses to combat since the style was developed with strong influences to the Warring States Period. Hiyori finds weak points and WILL use them to her advantage.
Ellen's style, Taisha-ryu suits uneven terrain since it was designed that way (practical combat techniques), and one notable trait is having a low stance compared to other styles. That's probably why Hiyori attacked from such a low angle.

You know typically when I try to watch shows like this, that is to say a nearly girl exclusive cast trying to be badasses in an action show, there's something in it that annoys me to no end that I end up dropping it a few episodes in. It's usually when the "action" is just a bait to draw you into a show that's really about girlish antics.

But as Marcus H. posts, the pilot episode's nearly remarkable adherence to practical and believable (in context) combat techniques shows that the writing team did their research and likely knows their stuff. That in itself already puts it leagues above other shows like it, and that in itself is why I hope the series will remain as focused to its premise as this initial episode.

Episode 2 has revealed the most important part of the plot, simple(cliche) & straightforward but with solid story definately worth good ratings for now with no cutesy yuri stuffs in it. I can see why this has a total of 24 episodes, really can't wait how the plot leads to the final stage/boss.

Definately worth 7/10 for me at episode 2, this kind of story is much better than many anime there are.

Well, even though I kinda enjoyed it, I wouldn't called "solid" a story where the main girl just follows some random girl she barely knows because she "saw" something, instead of going to a teacher/superior to talk about it.
It is indeed cliché, but usually the characters are forced to tag along in some way. Yet she decided on her own to follow. :uhoh:

Sure, she may have thought "maybe there are more of them" but that doesn't seem to be imply at all. She just rescue her and run away for the sake of the plot. Now let's just wait for the other 4 of them to come together as a group but I'm not quite sure a plot twist would elevate the plot...

Who was she going to talk to? There was no one else in authority at the tournament other than members of the Origami family, one of whom she had seen was a monster, and another of whom had just tried to kill Hiyori. The choice was get out or be murdered. Reveal what you know and definitely be murdered, along with anyone who may have been close enough to hear what you said. Flee until you have a chance to try to find out who can and can't be trusted.

Ep 2

Great 1 gender anime

So they are now forbidden to collect Noro coz the higher ups are monsters, huh? :heh:

Marina2 2018-01-12 12:49

Ep.2

Did Mai just get NTR-ed.......? :heh: Anyway, Mai has (secretly) joined Kanami's side. Let's see how will Kanami convince the rest of girls to join her.

Look like elite guards are really good guys. They just get tricked by (fake) Yukari to work for her. Once the truth is revealed, they will probably help out the MCs. According to the official website, Yume's swordsmanship is the best among the elite guards but she has troublesome personality. I'm looking forward to see the battle between her and Kanami as both of them seems to enjoy fighting.

Kazu-kun 2018-01-12 14:52

So, according to Mai, Hiyori actually sucks as swordsmanship. Like she's just relying on her speed or something.

I thought Hiyori would be good enough to rival the MC but it doesn't look like it. That's disappointing. The MC is way too good and no one come close to her in skills. I don't like that kind of characters.

Spoiler for EP 2 Comments/Feedback:

Liddo-kun 2018-01-12 18:13

Watched episode 1:

This is a nice surprise. Enjoyed it. Could not remember many character names yet, but I did not dislike anyone. Why did hiyori attack that person?

Looking forward to episode 2.

Requiem-x 2018-01-12 18:25

Ange Vierge-esque twist, check. Ok, I'm in. Mind you, it wasn't that well revealed, and things didn't look that good overall, in the visual sense, but it was still fun enough for me to want to see what happens next, and despite how simplistic it is, I'm liking Hiyori and Kanami's dynamic so far.

Poor Mai, though. That was fast :heh:

She's basically a national's champion you know. :heh: (if she and Hiyori fought , she would have won). Her sword style also allow her to beat any opponent if she manage to 'read' them. I welcome MCs that is strong from the start. Character development can be focused on other area.

Hiyori's style is designed around exploiting an enemy's weaknesses to land a finishing strike. Mai may actually be one of the worst possible matchups for Hiyori, because her style revolves around eliminating all imperfections and weaknesses in their movements.

If Hiyori's predictable like Mai said, Kanami would beat her easily. Kanami excels in figure out other fighters' techniques and such. Someone straightforward and predictable like Hiyori wouldn't even be a challenge to her.

HandofFate 2018-01-12 23:31

i do like the attention to detail in the sword styles, looking forward to how the plot develops.

I really feel like the two are in some dire straits with the people in power actually being monsters. Gonna be a tough upward battle the whole run.

At first with the girl going just "I wanna spar you" Thought she was gonna be slightly dumb, but turns out she's actually really smart and has a good head.

She noticed the monster and knew the only they could do was run.
