Action anime with thirty something protagonist

Something in the spirit of Cobra the Animation (2010) and Golgo 13 (2008). With a guy doing what he does best resulting in good action. The guy shouldn't be much older then fifty.

Stuff I recommend myself in this category:

[1983] Golgo 13
[1993] Juubee Ninpuuchou
[1998] Golgo 13: Queen Bee
[2006] Coyote Ragtime Show
[2008] Golgo 13
[2008] Cobra the Animation: The Psychogun
[2009] Cobra the Animation: Time Drive
[2010] Cobra the Animation

Speedgrapher, Zone of the Enders: Dolores, I

Dimension W and Gangsta comes to mind.

There's also Fate Zero although Kiritsugu is one of many characters.

Spike from Cowboy Beebop is 27 years old. Is that close enough?

Tenzen12 2018-07-19 12:53

Solty Rei
Gun Grave
7 samurais

Hm.. I've seen everything of that already and it's nothing I'd like to rewatch right now. Spike is old enough. As long as they're out of education, it's fine, I guess.

There's also Coyote Ragtime Show, which I just remembered. And Juubee Ninpuuchou. And that shitty movie that is like Juubee Ninpuuchou except with pussies instead of men: Stranger: Mukou Hadan.

Jeez, it seems obvious but what about Tiger X Bunny?

I know that one, too. Though, I found it to be highly gay and would rather like for everyone to suggest anime that ain't. Gay, I mean.

I'm sure sure how old Rock is in Black Lagoon, but he's certainly in his mid to late 20s at the least.

Mad Pierrot 2018-07-20 21:40

Kenshin and Kogami from Psycho Pass are in their late 20s.

Edit: There is also my avi Dante who had an anime.

Recent offerings

Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens - an underappreciated little gem about assassins
Anglomois - currently airing; depicts the attempted Mongol invasion of Japan in the late 13th century

Older shows

Baccano!
Seirei no Moribito (protagonist is female)
Golden Kamuy (Fujimoto may be in his late twenties, but likely a bit older)
Claymore (female; maybe late twenties)
Michiko to Hatchin
Lupin III franchise
Shingeki no Bahamut Genesis/Virgin Soul

The requirement was a guy in his mid-thirties (and older, but no grandpa), though. Spike felt kind of old enough, but generally mid-twenties is too young for what I have in mind, it seems.

I only watch anime that were completely released on Blu-ray, so I can't comment on the newer stuff, but Balsa is still too young. (Also, she's a woman and so is Clare and so is Michiko.) Lupin.. he kind of fits the description, but I disliked all anime he appeared in. Including the Conan one. And I generally like Conan. Not sure why I gave Lupin so many chances. Probably because there's a shitload of Lupin anime out there.

About Bahamut and Psycho-Pass I have the same to say as I did about Tiger x Bunny. It's way too gay. Anime for women ain't for me, I guess.

SeijiSensei 2018-07-29 13:44

Bahamut is not gay at all. Favaro is a womanizer, and while Kaisar is more chivalrous, he also prefers women. I can't remember any prominent gay characters in either installment.

AntonKutovoi 2018-07-29 23:35

>Shingeki no Bahamut and Psycho-Pass are gay

Er... The hell?

As for the topic - Hokuto no Ken, Dragon Ball Z, Sengoku Musou, Onihei, Hellsing, Devil May Cry

0cean 2018-07-30 13:38

The characters ain't homosexual (though, I wouldn't bet on it), but the shows are gay.

I'll have a look at Onihei. Can't find Blu-rays of Sengoku Musou, the others I know already. Average Shounen stuff isn't what I'm looking for, though. And Son Goku is too young. I guess age wise he fits, but he still acts like a child all the time. When he was put back into his young body in GT it wasn't quite the Conan "body of a child, but mind of an adult" thing.

*troll smirk* Why go all the way to be politically correct when we're talking about jap culture? Here's your list that people subconsciously forget.

Usagi-drop
Koi Kaze
Kodomo no Jikan
Hanamaru Kindergarten

No, they arn't even hentai, but mainstream anime.

Tenzen12 2018-07-31 05:09

Did you miss that part about "action Anime with thirty something protagonist" ?

Also there is nothing gay about Bahamut. Only people who can say otherwise are ones who didn't watch it.

Mad Pierrot 2018-07-31 11:46

How about Inuyashiki?

Seen all of them. None of them are action and half of them have a protagonist that is barely in his twenties and the other two are 30 and younger.

I've watched Bahamut. The 2014 one, anyway. It's highly gay. Even Boku no Pico is more straight, since the guys at least look like girls.

@Inuyashiki: No grandpas.

Haak 2018-08-02 12:26

How can a story be "highly gay" if none of the characters are gay? :heh:

Tenzen12 2018-08-02 13:37

Irc it even has fairly equal male/female ratio and plenty of mutual interaction between genders. Closest to gay is probably Lucifer who certainly is in love with male. And by male I mean himself.
