Wait, they're going to animate more of the Berserk story? One of the things that kind of pissed me off was that I thought this was it, and since this was largely already animated once, seemed like a waste compared to just animating the rest of the story.

Though, I think I have to say this is a better version than the tv one.

This is the most official thing I've read about this.

Just saw the movies, it was nice to see berserk animated again. Nevertheless I got to say that I didnt like it that much. They just left out so many things and even changed some. Its mindbogling how they left some really important character developments; guts not liking to be touched, realizing what his dream was etcetera. Another thing that I just dont understand is: why isnt berserk getting a full animation? Isnt that many times more lucrative? Maybe a movie+anime combination? Can someone explain to me why they chose to make a couple of movies and leave bunch of very important stuff out?

The plan was always to redo the origins of the Band of the Hawk (aka the long flashback that was the first anime), to see if there was still enough interest in franchise. If there was (and if the sales numbers showed it), the production would then look to animating what's happening in the "Present Day" of Berserk (see Guts unwittingly gathering a new band around him).

Thing is, what ARE the sales figures for the movies anyway?

The movies were good, even though skipped much.

I'm sad they skipped Skull Knight stopping Count and Rosine from killing/eating Ricket.

The movie was okay. At least it had a more proper closure than the TV series(even though we kinda knew he was continuing the battle cause of the epilogue 1st episode), where it felt like it ended on a cliffhanger =0\. At least they portrayed the rape scene right. That's all I really cared about. There were other minor things, like Judeau's confession that was left out, but I can live without those tidbits, since I already know the story.

It was kinda stupid to have chars in the opening not show up in the animation though.

So I finished those films like two weeks ago and I gotta say.

Despite the overabundance of atrociously poor CGI, I am very glad to have watched these films. While they are imperfect, the good far outweighs the bad, and anime fans seeking out a grittier film to watch would do well to check them out.
