Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition

So... seems that they may be remaking/remastering/re-releasing/sequeling Baldur's Gate, and there may be some official announcement soon (tm), but at the moment there is some viral stuff to go on.

I loved this game to pieces, its definitely in my top 5 and if there is a new version or the old one is getting a HD release then I want in.

If you go to http://www.baldursgate.com/ and view the source code, you can see the comments that have gone up yesterday, and they are changing since it seems more was added over night. You can see them above and bellow the actual site coding.

Also someone found something with Steam ID codes tying into BG.

BioWare Teases New Baldur's Gate ... Something

I guess if this is true, and it's an official re-make, i guess those poor modders who were working for years on their own mod redux can hang the gloves up if they already haven't. But lets wait and see, it could simply be a promotion for BG on Steam.

Crossing my fingers to have Imoen as a romantic interest... XD

So, what, not content with ruining Mass Effect and what little was good about Dragon Age, EA is forcing Bioware to ruin Baldur's Gate as well? Wonderful. :heh:

TJR 2012-02-29 14:12

I'm not sure if EA or Bioware are even involved. They haven't had any influence over the property in ages (rights were held by Interplay, kicked over to Atari, and finally reclaimed by Hasbro), and I'd be surprised if they were suddenly contracted to work on an update.

As with MDK2 HD, Beamdog (ex-Bioware developers) is handling development. There's no word on a publisher yet, but Atari has recently re-released the old games through digital and retail outlets.

Ok , if it's not a fake , they really want to kill all their licence...

Gamespot has an update on this:

Quote:

Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition and Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition will run on a "re-forged version" of the Infinity engine, said to boast a "variety of modern improvements." Overhaul Games will serve as publisher for both games, though platforms for the projects have not been announced.
From the twitter link, it says that the game will remain in 2d and will not change a few things like the original soundtrack. The games will only be available as a download.

She's about as much as your sister as a random stranger is your sister. Especially if you play as a non-human race.

If you want to be nitpicky about it I suppose that means the dragon Bhaalspawn toward the middle of ToB was your brother! :D

I thought that were already Imoen romance mods? Though my favorite was Saerileth mod. Best romance mod ever.

HayashiTakara 2012-03-16 00:12

If Baldur's Gate I, II and Throne of Bhaal gets remade, I'll die of a heart attack! I spent endless hours on those games!

DragoonKain3 2012-03-16 00:16

AFAIK Imoen romance mod don't go into the expansion, so I never actually tried it. All or nothing. :heh:

enhanced edition will include the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion. As for Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, it will include the Throne of Bhaal expansion and will ship at a later date.
That's awesome the expansions are included.

it says that the game will remain in 2d
I saw the tweet where he says 2d. but I'm figuring it'll be more a forced perspective isometic mashup with a 3d engine.

It's cool they're keeping the 2nd rule set. It'll probably throw some folks for a loop who never played it. I also thought it was funny the guy that took offence to it being 2nd ed.

My friend (me to probably) is pretty much going to disappear from the world when this is released, lol.

synaesthetic 2012-03-16 02:14

I would have preferred if they ripped out the clunky and unintuitive AD&D 2nd edition rules and replaced it with something actually designed for a PC game.

Mr Hat and Clogs 2012-03-16 02:16

It would probably make things easier. But I don't remember having any real problems with it.

It's not an issue of brevity, more an issue of balance. Linear Warriors & Quadratic Wizards is absolutely in effect in AD&D 2nd edition.

Having played AD&D (pencil and paper) for a decade, I don't find a problem with it. Though some of the optional rules were cumbersome. Though I thought they mixed in some 3e stuff, like sorcerer and monk powers. Can't be sure though, since it's been so long I played D&D and I never even got to 3e before retiring.

Mr Hat and Clogs 2012-03-16 03:17

Wasn't BG 2.5 Ed? Sorcerers were in their I'm sure, or maybe that was BG 2.
