Jurassic World [Jurassic Park IV]

This news is a bit late, but I think some of you may be interested. I decide to make a thread of this since I grew up with Jurassic Park franchise and love it :).

Details on the project are currently few, but Jurassic Park IV will be produced by Spielberg with a director yet-to-be-named. It is also being planned for a 3D release.

"It's really hard to keep these things going when there's an expectation and a desire by the public and the audience to keep certain franchises going," fellow producer Kathleen Kennedy told ComingSoon.net last fall. "As filmmakers, we often sit there going, 'Okay. We have to answer the question, 'Why do another one?'' If you can't answer that question, you shouldn't be doing it. It's tough. We're trying to come up with a story that makes sense and isn't going to disappoint people and is, hopefully, going to get people excited and reinvigorate the franchise."

Currently unconfirmed, it is believed that the most recent draft of the sequel was scripted by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.

The original 1993 Jurassic Park will see a 3D re-release on April 5 of this year, also hitting IMAX 3D theaters.

Heaven help us.

^Sis, do you have to say that every time I make a movie-thread? :D

I can't wait to see the 3d conversion for the original Jurassic Park later this year...beyond that, I'm not to interested in seeing anymore of the universe.

Qilin 2013-01-14 11:23

Huh. Oh, nice.

The franchise itself isn't all too interesting, but I'd say that dinosaurs are innately cool in the same way that feathered ones aren't.

Renegade334 2013-01-14 11:28

I thought Spielberg (who produces the franchise) and his entourage (Joe Johnston included) had let go of JP4 after Michael Crichton passed away... Not sure what to think of this.

Anyway, there were some rumors and concept pics flying around a couple weeks/months ago,
Spoiler:

I thought this franchise was extinct.

On that matter though how cool would it be to have T-Rex with freakin laser beams attached to their freakin heads?

The rumor (inside the spoiler) that the JP4 will use the Dinos for military purposes has been going on for years actually. IIRC, that concept has already been scrapped. Still, nothing is absolute until you saw it onscreen.

While I'm hopeful I'm also dissapointed. I mean sure it could turn out like Jurassic Park 3 where it wasn't all that great but an entertaining flick or even as good as the first one. But with so much time having passed and how movies have changed I can't help but feel it'll just turn out like all the other additions to franchises that have long been finished; a subpar somewhat awful movie when stacked up against the rest. I have my hopes up considering the staff working on it, so I'm not completely let down until i see an actual trailer.

I just don't understand this obssession with getting more out of franchises that have been long over and really don't need another addition. *sigh* whatever, I'll probably go see it anyways.

takai 2013-01-14 12:07

I'll have to see a trailer before I say I like this decision or not. To see if Spielberg is going in the right direction with it.

Velsy 2013-01-14 12:49

I cant only remember JP1 and 2, I wonder if I've seen 3 ? O_o

Ah yes I remember now.

Make the dino-villain a Tyrannosaur or Carcharodontosaur; Spiny was a total no-sell.

ChainLegacy 2013-01-14 14:34

The source material has been used up (and squeezed dry beyond its limits with 3), so my hopes for it having a well-crafted plot are pretty low.

I also think the prehistoric creatures bit could be put towards other time periods for novelty... giant sea scorpions, anyone? :D

there was a BBC scifi show a few years back that dealt with prehistoric running loose form a Time Gate. It wasn't bad but its cancel now.

Hollywood has found a way.

Soverence 2013-01-14 16:26

I am honestly more excited for the re-release of the first one in 3D, assuming that they actually put work into the 3D that could be a very good experience.

The new Jurassic Park is a little iffy, the biggest question is what is left for them to really expand upon? How about a story like "the dinosaurs escaped the island by riding on prehistoric sharks and are now attacking Tokyo and it is up to the power rangers to save the day!", now that would be interesting :heh:
