Steins;Gate - Game Thread

I'm curious why no one's started a thread on this, but I guess I'll begin here.

http://steinsgate.jp/
http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/915...atexbox360.jpg

The game was released by 5pb and Nitro+ on Oct. 15, 2009 of this year, and takes place within the same world as CHAOS;HEAD after the Shibuya incident.

My synopsis:
Quote:

The game’s premise revolves around a man named Okabe Rintarou, who goes to a meeting regarding time travel. While he’s wandering around, he finds that 18-year old Makise Kurisu has been murdered. After leaving the building in a hurry, he decides to send a cellphone mail regarding the murder. However, the moment the mail is sent, the world changes, and Rintarou feels as if something had changed at that moment. The people around him have disappeared, and when he looks up at the top of the building he’s just left, he finds a satellite has crashed into the rooftop.

Only hours later does he bump into Makise Kurisu, who was supposed to have been killed…
I've already cleared the game, and have summaries available for people to read (warning, spoiler alert!):

My review of Steins;Gate (relatively spoiler-free, I think? It should be):

OoOoOoO a discussion about a X360 game? Too bad for the the region lock(wondering why do lock games where they have no intention of releasing it outside of Japan) and the lack of english.

Suprised a VN actually got released on the 360. The sales seems similar to Chaos;Head Noah. It'll get proper fame when it gets ported to the PC. :O

izmosmolnar 2009-11-08 08:12

Fingers crossed for a PC port. I'm only hearing praises about S;G (it's been on the top of EGS for quite a while actually), despite that the writer's other games were rather lacklustre IMO.
Such a shame that Nitroplus is also involved with it, so the chances of a fantranslation is abysmal. Additionally since 5pb is also involved (and those guys notoriously disliked foreigners in the past during the C;H translation), it's unlikely that an official translation ever going to happen. Real shame.

velocity7 2009-11-08 13:08

If you guys have a 360 and want to play through the demo, you can still use my summaries to play it... though you should only read as far as chapter 1. :p

Also, I'd be very willing to work on a fan translation myself, if it's even possible in the future...

To be honest I think there's only a handful of people that have a japanese XBOX360 and can't speak Japanese. Till a PC version is announced, I wouldn't bother working on it.

If it's possible to at least translate the scripts, I'd still do it anyway. :)

Besides, if a PC port is announced in the future after the fact, it'd only make the job much quicker.

I just finished watching the demo (all 34 sections of it on youtube) and it looks great. The artwork is refreshing and the characters aren't as cliche ridden. My fingers are also crossed for a PC port.

Avisch 2009-11-09 15:20

Artwork is very catching (nice coloring style)
Your synopsis got me interested. I will also be hoping for a PC port.

Also Kanako Itou doing the opening is always a plus.

EDIT: Seiyu list is impressive

(by order of appearance on the website)

Miyano Mamoru - Okabe Rintarou
Imai Asami - Makise Kurisu
Hanazawa Kana - Shiina Mayuri
Tamura Yukari - Amane Suzuha
Kobayashi Yuu - Urushibara Ruka (opening romanizes it as "Luka")
Momoi Halko - Feiris NyanNyan (opening romanizes it Faris)
Seki Tomokazu - Hashida Itaru
Gotou Saori - Kiryuu Moeka
Terasoma Masaki - Tennouji Yuugo
(cant find the seiyu name, cause the kanji has no furigana) - Tennouji Nae

EDIT2: *facepalm* no wonder the art looks so familar! It's huke of the BlackRock Shooter fame.

Izayoi 2009-11-10 18:18

I still fail to comprehend why Nitro+ would release it on a Xbox 360. Who the hell owns a Xbox 360 in Japan anyways, entirely kidd. I ordered this a while ago, and yes it came a while ago too but I didn't quite have the time to play it.

Elvin 2009-11-11 08:20

It's because microsoft gave them money. Lots and lots of money.

Hn ? Why ? o.o;
Anyway, I read your summary a little and I found out that the story is indeed complex and sounds intresting...at least from what I've read. Does it involve with some parallel universe, time machine or things like that ? Is it sci-fi ?

Hm...I think I need to find some place to download the song >.<

velocity7 2009-11-14 03:30

Came across some very amusing fan-made 4komas for Steins;Gate:

From what I recall, the 5pb staff had said the game is "99% science fiction" and "1% fantasy". :)

Feels a bit like necroing a thread, but thought I might give an update.

Steins;Gate will be having three drama CDs, they are:
Also, the Steins;Gate Official Materials will be out on 2/26/2010 for 2415 yen, also available at Amazon.co.jp.

Thinking of summarizing the drama CDs on my site, too. :)

velocity7 2010-04-18 09:01

Been quite a while since I've done an update, but I've done a summary of Drama CD 1, available at:

According to mana__tsurugi from Twitter, Steins;Gate PC has been announced:
http://twitter.com/mana__tsurugi/status/12437605601

Elvin 2010-04-19 00:29

I'm assuming mana__tsurugi isn't the username of someone credible. Real source or it's not true.

And that link leads to a page does not exist

velocity7 2010-04-19 00:32

mana__tsurugi is actually the twitter account of the president of Lass, the creator of 11eyes.

Anyways, as the Techgian was not on sale yet, he pulled the twitter. Original quote:

I shall wait for an official site announcement. The only way to avoid disappointment is to not have any expectations in the first place (-_-)-b

velocity7 2010-04-19 07:39

Some pictures are floating around...

EDIT: More confirmation here, tinypic'ing the images that are working right now, just in case they get pulled:

Well, as far as I can tell, those all cite the tech gain magazine as their source... but since they cited a date, you can deduce that it's not a simple rumor (as there were before). Woo hoo ^_^

Rias 2010-04-19 10:53

It's a smart move, since PC version would reach more people than 360 in Japan...

It could actually be translated into English, too. :heh:

Elvin 2010-04-19 17:09

Wonder how long it'll take to hack it :O

Zetsuboushitaa 2010-04-20 14:43

Is PC port confirmed yet? if it is true i think i can help translate it if someone try to make a translation

Elvin 2010-04-20 15:18

People are repeatedly citing the tech gain magazine as a confirmation, and according to them it's out on July 30th

velocity7 2010-04-21 09:32

http://www.4gamer.net/games/108/G010892/20100421018/

There's more confirmation from 4gamer now. Be advised as there are potential spoilers near the bottom of the page. In particular, a new CG not shown in the 360 version, it seems.

velocity7 2010-04-22 17:20

http://steinsgate.jp/

Home page has been updated to reflect PC version.

Elvin 2010-04-22 18:07

Asami Imai <3

Zetsuboushitaa 2010-04-24 01:43

I think with this PC version it will be more popular in Japan

Mizuno 2010-07-25 02:40

This is getting an anime adaption. :D

moichispa 2010-07-25 05:52

I do not know what to do. People complained about chaos;head anime adaptation so problaby is far better to read the orignal novel but, there is any group that is going to traslate the PC version or something?

Wow. Now I am happy@!

Elvin 2010-07-25 08:20

An anime adaption will just spoil the storyline of the game. I'll avoid it like the plague D:
And no on the PC translation; there were people who showed interest, but no one's officially declared that they'll see it done.

winkel 2010-07-25 13:55

Due to the JAST x Nitroplus deal, I don't think anyone will want to step up and do the PC version.

I'd be happier about this if JAST was actually releasing VNs that weren't random sex romps.

Don't forget about 5pb. We still don't know if Jast'll handle games where Nitro+ are only the co-developers. Plus, as the above post states, Jast hasn't yet released a non-ero game.

winkel 2010-07-25 17:57

They may be co-developers, but they still seem to hold the rights on the PC side if you look on the credits. That's the reason the Chaos;Head t/l projects locked up in the first place. 5pb holds the rights to the X360 versions of course.

The Nitroplus games they're working on aren't exactly those...

TJR 2010-07-25 18:14

As of now, Demonbane is the only game they have in the pipeline. Whether they go ahead with more games depends on sales (no Jingai Makyou for now), so I do wonder how the scene might react if the unthinkable were to happen.

Resuming locked projects through TLWiki would certainly anger Nitro+, although translators would arguably have nothing to lose.

Kindly link me to the credits? I wanna see :O

They haven't yet released a single Nitroplus game, and Demonbane has undergone numerable delays.

Why bother getting the licenses if you aren't even going to bother releasing the games?
