Accel World licensed by Viz, dubbed and streaming on Neon Alley

Per ANN, Accel World will be streaming on Viz's Neon Alley service. This is generally a service to show dubbed anime, so it is quite likely the anime will be dubbed as a result. This thread is to discuss the license, the Neon Alley streaming, and also to speculate about the possible dub cast.

Alright, let's hear Powder Bear's man-voice-that-can't-possibly-be-a-teenager's-voice.

sky black swordman 2013-01-24 05:53

Ok , how about Johnny Yong Bosch as Haru's VA.

Nah, he should be Taku's VA. After all, he has experience being Guy(ToA) and Almaz(Disgaea 3).

Maybe Bryce Papenbrook(ToG) instead.

sky black swordman 2013-01-24 06:19

^ I think that Johnny Yong Bosch as Haru's VA, would be a good fit.
Johnny would voice Haru using the same voice he used for Renton Thurston in Eureka Seven.

Vic Mignogna would also be good for Haru as well.

Michelle Ruff or Laura Bailey as KYH.

orpheus2 2013-01-24 06:51

Kate Higgins for KYH

Laura Bailey for Chiyu.

The reason I said Johnny Yong Bosch for Taku's VA is because Taku is suffering. Tony Oliver would be a good choice.

Cristina Valenzuela as Niko and Jamie Marchi as Sky Raker? (sorry, I don't know who works for which studio)

Then how about for Ash Roller?

animedude 2013-02-09 19:50

Then how about for Ash Roller?[/QUOTE]

i think ash roller should go to troy baker, because he is used to playing the guy that starts off an enemy but eventually becomes a freind or even just someone that is helpful from time to time

sky black swordman 2013-02-09 20:51

Ash Roller? Who about Yuri Lowenthal or Kyle Hebert.

animedude 2013-02-09 22:06

but doesn't yuri lowenthall seem more like the opposite? he voiced saskue from naruto who started as an ally but betrayed his freinds. that seems like the opposite of ash roller who introduced haru to sky raker dont you think. he was acting more friend than foe at that time.

Here's the dub cast for anyone who's curious:

Haruyuki Arita
Erik Scott Kimerer
Voice of Inugami in NURA Rise of the Yokai Clan

Kuroyukihime
Kira Buckland
Voice of Izumo Kamiki in Blue Exorcist

Takumu Mayuzumi
Lucien Dodge\
Voice of Waver Velvet in Fate/Zero

Chiyuri Kurashima
Michelle T. Hseih

Niko
Sarah Anne Williams
Voice of Sayaka Miki in Puella Magi Madoka Magica

It is nice that they're giving some younger VAs (the "new generation" if I may be so pretentious) a shot at bigger roles.

Hmm. Only thing I've seen Williams in was Madoka, which I didn't particularly like her in, but I'd be willing to give her another chance. I recall Buckland being decent in Blue Exorcist, although I'm not sure she's really right for the role. And I'll eat my hat if "Michelle T. Hseih" isn't a Stephanie Sheh pseudonym.

That's what people are pretty much figuring. For those wondering why we figure that, but are unwilling to look it up, Stephanie Sheh has gone by the pseudonym "Tiffany Hsieh" in the past.

On another note, the director for the dub has apparently been confirmed to be Kristi Reed.

For some reason, the idea of Kuroyukihime speaking English seems so natural in my head it's like it's always been that way.

orpheus2 2013-03-24 03:47

Wow, all new upcoming VA's. In a way, this is a good thing. It actually gives the younger generation of VA's more experience.

Regarding KYH's VA, one of her roles is Chou-Chou from Mugen Souls. I have very mixed feelings whether she can pull it off.

She also did Elle in Bonus Stage and Meryl in Metal Gear Awesome, oddly enough.

Looks like the dub trailers are out.

Behind the Scenes

Application

So far, it sounds good.

judasmartel 2013-04-14 02:00

I can easily get used to KYH speaking in English if I start watching the dub right away! Jap!KYH sounded too stern to me IMO. Eng!KYH sounds better to me.

At least Eng!Haru doesn't sound like he's crying all the time.

Tusjecht 2013-04-14 02:52

Trivial question: why do you guys write it like Eng!KYH, or SK!Kirito?

judasmartel 2013-04-14 05:02

'Cause I'm too lazy to type, maybe? Dunno, really, just picked up the habit from TVTropes.
