I thought about it and figured it'd be a waste of money for me. I think for now I have plenty of GunPla. Besides, I have these coming when they're available..

MG Exia Repair II
MG Wing Gundam Proto Zero
MG X Gundam
RG Strike Freedom (and Super Dragoon effect online exclusive)
RG Destiny Gundam (and Wings of Light effect online exclusive)

...as well as some bases, LED lights, etc.

So any of you planning to customise your own model kit to make your own gunpla due to the Gundam Build Fighters?
I've seen people getting a block of white plastic when they customise their own kits. Do you know what they are?

ZeroXSEED 2013-11-16 23:37

Styrene sheet/ Pla plates

n0m@n 2013-11-17 00:24

Thanks, I'll try and look for it in the shop nearby.

~Destiny~ 2013-11-17 00:31

If it's an actual block, it could also be epoxy putty

Aurelis 2013-11-17 00:49

The show did little to inspire me to customize my own Gunpla :heh: I can't even finish OOB.

It did good in making me want to buy more kits though... Victory, F91 Harrison, Silver Bullet, X Maoh, Double X, Blue and Red Frames and even the new HG Strike.

Now that's a LOT...

we've build some plamo before but all we did was just build it and the show and some of the images posted here inspire us to try customizing a plamo...
with that in mind
we're going to ask
which grade is better to start with?
MG and PG are out of the question
Between HG or RG which of them is better to start?

I'm using the Build Booster on Strike Noir, changing the face, V-fin, etc.

HG will be better if you're a beginner, RG is just like an MG in 1/144 size or even worse and much risky for beginners.

I would say HG as it's a lot simpler and the end result can be decent, if you did the basic like panel line, some touch up and topcoats. Top coat does a lot in improving the end result.

I usually say go for RG but the way some parts are brittle/easily broken, it may cause frustration to the user. They're very articulated and detailed with minimal efforts though.

NeutralZero 2013-11-17 01:27

Thanks,
we'll keep that in mind...

Are you like a group of people using the same account? Or is it just you and precious :p

What kinda series do you like most, perhaps we can recommend the bets kit for that series.

NeutralZero 2013-11-17 01:36

No
we use we instead of I
kinda like a verbal tick

the very first series we've was wing back in the 90's followed by x then G
the series we've like are wing, x seed and 00

HGs for Wing and X are somewhat limited (the newer ones at any rate)

For these the best HG options are:

HG Wing (only new HG Wing kit as of now), X, X-Divider, and Double X.

Do note that these ones are found under the HGUC lineup though, designated by HGAC (HG After Colony) and HGAW

(HG After War)

SEED have an abundance of kits, most which are crappy though (with some exceptions, care to tell us which part of SEED you liked? SEED? DESTINY? Stargazer? Astray? Most of the better HGs are the newer ones, primarily the new Astray kits and Stargazer ones)

00 has a abundance of kits to choose from too, and most of the HG's are fantastic kits, though some require a lot of painting, so here its mostly personal preference

@Suiton: Since you have so much money to spend on MG's, SD's hardly cost any money in comparison. 1 MG easily nets you several SD's, so I don't see what the problem is here, they also take up very little room

@N0M@N: Do note that they are not called "Pla-plates" everywhere, just ask for polystyrene sheets, as thats the form they usually come in (various thicknesses too, so take that into account when buying), I think they also come in blocks, but I have never seen these personally

NeutralZero 2013-11-17 03:26

in seed series the freedom units, the original and the dragoon user
and in star gazer the black strike cant remember the name
is there still an Epyon instock in the wing series?
in terms of 00, which of them require less painting?

The HG Freedom and Strike Freedom are pretty terrible kits, bad proportions and lots of painting, I would not recommend them sadly (unless you have the sklllz to mod them to greatness)

The RG's and MG's are the way to go for those two as of now sadly

Strike Noir is an awesome kit, require some painting to look better, but still one of the best SEED HG's out there, comes with its own stand to boot

Epyon has not had any new releases outside of the more recent MG kit, unless you are fine building the old 90's one, which is not the best, but fun for the hell of it (I build some of these old ones, not for the quality or looks, which tend to be bad by today's standards, but for nostalgic reasons, seeing them on the ToysRUs shelves as I grew up watching Wing as a kid)

Hmmm for 00 the best options with less paint required tends to be the ones from the second season if that helps, the first season tends to require much more of it

Hope that helps ^^

NeutralZero 2013-11-17 03:54

Yes it's a great help...

in terms of painting, does the paint used on gunpla fade over time?

ZeroXSEED 2013-11-17 04:06

Not if you use topcoat on it

All paint scratch or wear/fade off over time, just natural

The real question here is which is more durable, and whether you will be spraying topcoat on them (through airbrush or cans, either is fine). Topcoating tend to negate wearing off for a very long period of time for the most part and gives the model a superb finish if done right

So Acrylic tends to be the easiest to use, as its water and alcohol soluble (way easier to clean and thin, also can be done mostly anywhere), and it drys faster. This also means its thinner, so its much easier compared to the other 2 types to scratch and wear off over time. Also harder to get an even coat due to it drying faster

This is the most common paint you will find being used for Gunpla, especially in the form of the paint pens, which are great for people who dont really want to deal with bottles/thinning/mixing and all the other work

Enamel and Lacquer are the next 2, with Enamel being highly preferred for being tougher than Acrylic, yet not as hard to use/remove as laquer. Both paints are strong, require their own thinners, and require more work. They take much longer to dry, but this allows the paint to flow together before drying, so even coats are much easier. Also note they are more expensive (including thinners and other helpful stuff for them)

I and many others find acrylics tend to work the best, especially the Gundam markers. They're great quick fixes (easy to use and cheap, also come in specific colors found on the models so its easy to match buy buying the right ones) and can still look good. Also as long as you don't handle the painted sections too much, and display them in some sort of enclosed display environment (glass display case), they're fine.

Oops I typed too much.........

NeutralZero 2013-11-17 04:25

Not really
since we're almost a noob in customizing a plamo
it's really a great help...

ZeroXSEED 2013-11-17 05:08

Nah, everyone has to start somewhere

For the most part, I made my first gunpla following this guide.

RX93-2 2013-11-17 05:24

Ill probably pick up a Build Mk2 booster (i think they where releasing one) sometime soon and see if I can slap it onto something like the HG Zabanya I have collecting dust.

ZeroXSEED 2013-11-17 05:27

It came with multiple adapter, so I think it'll fit well.

Come to think of it, most of the cost probably came from that. :uhoh:

Lately, I've been wanting the Strike Noir.
But I was wondering.

1. Do think Bandai will just release an RM Ver?
2. Can you take the MG Aile Strike RM Ver. and the MG Strike Noir and customize it? Are the parts all compatible?

Edit: Also let's see:
1. Perfect Gundam never got a 2.0 either(based from RX-78 Gundam 2.0 frame)
2. Super Gundam never got a 2.0 either(based from Gundam MK-II 2.0 frame)
3. Zeta Plus never got a 2.0 either(based from Zeta Gundam 2.0 frame)

So Strike Noir will be the same case of never ever got an RM or 2.0.

Can you give me your source?

He must be under the constant watch of Celestial Being? I guess that's what happens when you mess with Aeolia.

Despite being with Bandai for so long, I've never agreed with our division manager's decision to form the "Make a Wish" campaign; to produce kits on kids' wishlists. Now where's that PG 1/60 Turn X CAD files hmm...

To reiterate my question before

What are the pros and cons of Tamashii Stage Act? (they're cheap at leas)

How does it compare to 'standard' Action Base?

From an outside perspective, they don't seem that different. I never used one,but they look pretty interesting.

Sometimes it's good to "try" something. It is cheap in your opinion right?
