Anyone have a suggestion for a conventional/easily available glue-ish thing that I can use for tightening ball joints? I'm not very experienced with super glue and cement, so I'm not that keen on using those.

Personally, I'd recommenda againts using superglue. I've personally had bad experience with them as far as ball joints are concerned. They can stick, problem is that that once you forcibly move them around the cohesion breaks and they become even looser than before. Thats just my experience however. Maybe my superglue just sucks, I'm sure different ones would work differently in practice but its just the experience I have with mine.
My prefered solution is painting the surface of the joint and then wait for it to dry. It makes it a stronger joint in general. I've only used black however, I remember reading that advice once on this thread and it has work wonders for me personally. Painting the inside part of where the joint connects to helps too.
Just dont connect when its still wet, otherwise its impossible to remove. Wait till it dried completely. Just painting with a brush is enough.
