Article contents (original date of post 10/3/11):

"Manta Aisora's comedy about Cthulhu deity-turned-girl already inspired 2 Flash-anime series

A promotional advertisement for Manta Aisora's Haiyore! Nyaruko-san comedy light novel series has announced that a new television anime adaptation has been green-lit. XEBEC will animate the new series.

The story of Haiyore! Nyaruko-san centers around Nyaruko, a formless Cthulhu deity of chaos (Nyarlathotep) who can take on the shape of a seemingly ordinary silver-haired girl. Mahiro Yasaka is a normal high school who is chased by aliens one night, until Nyaruko saves him.

Aisora launched the light novel series with illustrations by Koin (Kanokon: The Girl Who Cried Fox) in 2009, and Softbank Creative published the seventh volume this past April. The novels already inspired one video series and one television series of Flash-animated shorts by DLE Inc."

Well I'm pretty much guaranteed to watch this since I watched all the little flash animations so i don't see how this could be worse than those and I enjoyed them.

Kismet-chan 2012-01-12 12:51

She's pretty cute.

I like that this is getting another anime. I enjoyed the short flash anime when I had the chance to watch it.

dark998 2012-01-12 13:11

Yes. Watching this for sure.

Iby 2012-01-12 13:38

At least I can watch this for the old seiyus :heh:

I honestly do not know what to think about this. On one hand moeified Nyarlathotep would cause Lovecraft to spin so fast in his grave the would dig all the way to the dreamlands. On the other hand its so insane it works way to well with Nyarlathotep. I just don't know.

This was pretty much my thought on it too. Seems like something I might check out on a whim sometime, but I really don't know how to feel about it.

Small miracle Cthulhu itself wasn't moeified, I suppose. :heh:

Considering this series, Cthulhu would be a palette swapped Ika Musume.:heh:

Ithekro 2012-01-12 17:16

If this one was following the novel then great news but even if the last series was not following it's still entertaining for me.

^ The character designs are indeed fine though it's always like that most of the time.

For the record there have been a few anime versions of this already, their titles were:

1. Haiyoru! Nyaruani ... which had nine 2 minute eps - often these can be found all bundled together in one file. This is the ONA, I believe.

2. Haiyoru! Nyaruani: Remember my Mr. Lovecraft ... which had eleven 5 minute eps officially, but had an extra ep added on towards the end (i.e. 12). This is the "official series season 1", I guess.

And what Xebec will be doing will be the "official series season 2", most likely.

These are based on a LN series ... a manga adaptation exists and I think there has been a drama cd released as well....

Anyhoo ... for those who did not know there is a thread on the shows that have aired which can be found HERE.

Umm ... I hate to say this, but....

Let's see....Here is a pic of the "cast" from the 5 minute ep series:

http://nd04.jxs.cz/186/665/0e40489c5a_74027056_o2.jpg

From left to right we have the Lovecraft mythos deities: Nyarle (?), Cthulu, Nyarlathotep, Atlach-Nacha (?).

So ... umm ... yeah. They DID "moeify" Cthulu.

****

On other fronts one of the reasons why I like this story is precisely because it pokes fun at Lovecraft's stories. :D

Looks like they changed the color of Cthugha (Kuuko) from black to red.

Spoiler for Asta's gender:

Now I really want to see this, if only for the cuteness and because I'm a sucker for Lovecraft....

Crunchyroll has this, but their release plan is a little confusing:

Quote:

“Prior to simulcasting the new season, Crunchyroll will release the first five (5) episodes from season one (1) today at 2PM PST. The subsequent four (4) episodes will be available the following week until the completion of season two (2). More information can be found on www.crunchyroll.com/crawling.

After the final episodes of season two (2) have been broadcasted, Crunchyroll will begin simulcasting season three (3) on its site this April.”
I take it seasons 1 and 2 were the flash animations?

Yes. I think Crunchyroll could have worded it better. It is my understanding that what they're calling "season 3" is the TV anime that will be done by Xebec starting in April. I hope the episodes are full-length and not just 5 minute episodes. I am going to be watching this though. Glad CR got this(along with the flash animated episodes).

Stevie_Nix 2012-03-05 19:44

I'll admit, I wasn't quite sure before, but now that I've had a chance to start watching the series on CR, I can't wait for more.

Maybe they should have called the TV series the third "series" instead of "season." That might have been a little less confusing.

sadly some of those 5 min anime are really fun and leave me wanting more.

Indeed - the ordering/arrangement of the series thus far can cause some head-scratching. :heh:

But hafta agree with the others - the imagery from the anime looks pretty good. Am even more curious now. ;)

I honestly can not quite say what is it about this series. It honestly shouldn't work as well as it seems to. Maybe later it will fall apart, at least for me, but right now it works.

One question I have. Do the the flash ONA and the OVA series actually relate to each other? Or are they more like reboots?

Hmm ... not quite sure what you mean when you ask if they "relate to each other" ... I mean, they are based on the same LN sources, so to that extent of course they relate to each other, but in the sense of a continuous narrative deliberately constructed one after the other chronologically or something I honestly don't know.

Then again, I'm certainly no expert on the series. :heh:

The main reason it works for me, to be honest, is precisely because it parodies Lovecraft.

MisaoFan 2012-03-07 14:50

Nobody responds to one of my previous posts.

As for the anime, even though the character design's eyes are less faithful than the LN illustrations, I might enjoy this one (but only the first episode because of lack of time).

Stevie_Nix 2012-03-09 10:22

According to the official site, the series starts 9 April.

Honestly, red seems to work better with Cthugha because, ball of fire.

Crunchyroll is doing a poll asking fans whether it should be Nyarko-san or Nyaruko-san. I chose Nyarko because it sounds closer to a nickname for Nyarlathotep than "Nyaruko".

The official site, I'm told, uses Nyaruko for the character's name though. Normally I would just go with the official site but since the original source of the name is English(Lovecraft doing pseudo-Egyptian name), that should take priority. Especially since there is no "u" in Nyarlathotep.

New PV:

dark998 2012-03-20 02:27

^ Looks good. Shame most of the video is about the CVs babbling.

DorkingtonPugsly 2012-03-20 09:03

I completely missed this, when I was looking over spring anime the first time, but since I was a fan of the first two flash series, this is my top for the season. I was dying because there wasn't a full 30 min series, but it's here so I'm going to make the most of it (I'm going to obsess over this). I'm such a sucker for characters like Nyaruko.

tsunade666 2012-03-20 11:41

^ Nyaruko is really ubber cute so I can't blame you but I still like Cuco the most.

MisaoFan 2012-03-20 13:42

For what I see, I only watch this anime for Asta, but due to lack of time, I'm only here for three other shows (and Holy Knight) I mentionned in the Spring thread.
