I suppose that means we won't see 13th episode till 19th after all...

Of course, since resumes the normal programming .:heh:

Shinji103 2012-01-12 12:22

Haven't seen episode 12 yet, but the episode 13 preview shows that everything is back to "normal" next week so the current crisis obviously gets resolved this episode. It also looks like episode 13 will be an Ayase episode.

Iby 2012-01-12 12:30

I've confused 13 episode with the 12th... that's the whole story :heh:
So stupid of me... :(

Oh wow, this episode was pretty cool! Never thought that Mana would be like this... and Gai's deathflags were obviously floating everywhere even from the first episode.
I think that we can look at this anime from the point of Blood-C: just wait for the last 2-3 episodes and you won't be disappointed :D

nfsac 2012-01-12 13:38

OMG, I didn't see that comming.

Good bye Gai, you'll be missed.

Nice work Segai :D

It really is too hard to say. Haruka could be an adoptive mother or step-mother. Also, the relationship between Haruka and Mana was not established either. However, we do know that they all have the Ouma last name.

What we do know:

Ouma Kurosu (Father)
Ouma Haruka (Mother)
Ouma Mana (Sister)
Ouma Shu (MC)

So it could be incest, or it could be non-blood related.

Also, this episode confirms that Inori is a created being. However, created from what is still not known. If she is created from DNA fro Mana, then we still could have a blood-related relationship scenario.

This episode is also a turning point in the series, as most of the bad guys have been killed, except for Segai. With Gai gone as well, the series is heading in a different direction.

Gai aspired to be like young-Shu, so it could be expected that Shu revert back to what his former personality and attitude is like. Shu should become someone with whom people can respect soon.

miketyson 2012-01-12 14:44

Wow. Like it or hate it this was a heck of an episode. I can see why this show got made -- some surprisingly interesting ideas here -- and it's a pity the overall execution's been so spotty. It seems like somewhere in GC there's enough to make a great anime, but it's mixed in with a bunch of stuff that is more iffy.

But what next?
Spoiler:

Samyreu 2012-01-12 15:16

The first 1-11 episodes were really slow paced for me and the only thing revealed during that period was some information regarding Lost Christmas. Because of this, this episode seemed really fast paced, constantly giving you new information that you previously didn't have. I'm glad that more information is being released now but it was a bit much for one episode... They should of carried it over 2 episodes for more suspense in my opinion.

Aqua Knight 2012-01-12 15:26

Next episode - light-hearted school festival?

Kusa-San 2012-01-12 15:41

It's a sad day for tritons all over the world.

Btw, how the hell Triton and Ayase were able to go in the parralel world ?

Student no.0 2012-01-12 16:02

An eventful episode indeed. I'll miss Gai for sure, along with American Dan. But I was expecting this whole thing to last another episode more tbh. Still liked it, putting aside a couple of moments that bothered me. This felt more like a turning point to the series for the rest of the series than episode 11 did.

Still some further explaining future episodes should provide concerning: more on Mana's origin, the original source of the virus(still say it's extraterrestrial), and Inori's creation to now. Then again, that'll probably be explained in the VN anyway.

I do wonder what'll become of the GHQ and Funeral Parlor after all this though...

This. We know Shu was able to with the power of his right hand, but I can't really imagine how Gai and Ayase's endlave could've pulled it off.
Edit: Maybe Gai would've had some way to do so after all he's went through in the past but I can't say for sure.

He acquired King mode as stated by that other dude which allows him to do it. So yeah random powerup. So yeah pretty good ep. Hoping this goes the way of Gurren to keep the show interesting.

Random, this show is just so random. Random plot devices everywhere! Seriously hope the 2nd half of this show makes more sense.

ars89 2012-01-12 18:07

So Shu caused Lost Christmas because he didn't except Mana, way to go. Interesting how Gai became more like Shu and Shu just regressed. At least Gai got what he wanted in the end, able to be with Mana. So Haruka is his new mother.

Still have no idea what role Daath played since he just helped Keido get Inori, but then he just let Gai an Shu stop him. Was it just to help Shu get into king mode? Segai was great again by helping them get in.

So Inori was indeed created, wonder how? So if the person whose void is being drawn out keeps contact with Shu they can remain conscious. Wonder if that was always possible, or just because of his king mode.

So where do they go from here. Segai and Daath are still alive so maybe they'll cause problems. With no Gai does Shu become the leader?

I'd have to recheck, but I think you're right. Wow, epic memory fail there if you are right.

In that case, this king mode (whatever the hell that is) probably played a part as well. How Gai knew that, though, I have no idea.

Flawfinder 2012-01-12 18:36

Okay, apparently this episode was the end of the second arc. Now I sort of regret reviewing it on the previous episode forum.

With that said, this episode explained some things, but a lot of scenes seemed to have been put into it just because they can. Very few of them were all that effective. Additionally, the flashback didn't do much for me, as while I knew that Shu and Gai knew each other when they were young thanks to some credits, it didn't have any impact on how they acted throughout the first half one bit. I guess you can say Gai was harsh to Shu in the first episode because they switched roles and all, but like Shu and Inori, their relationship was nonexistent for pretty much the entire first half. Flashbacks like these only work if there is a current relationship between the characters. At least, for me.

Of course, I hate the motivations of the bad guys (why do you want to destroy the world?), I hate that new Void user, I don't exactly get how Gai can move after his void was pulled (holding hands apparently negates the effect?), and I HATE Mana. It's like somebody took Namie Yagiri and made her just a boring over-the-top incestuous sister instead of a crafty, but entertaining psycho.

So what did I like? The idea of Shu being brave while Gai was a wimp, only for that to be reversed in their teen years was pretty cool. I don't think it was that effective because I didn't like them in the first half, but it's a great idea that needed better characters to pull off. Aside from that though, besides some moments where I did care a little bit about what happened, I just thought this whole episode was exposition on autopilot. The reason Shu forgot was kind of weak, the characters were too weak to pull this episode off effectively, the reveals weren't very interesting, and it didn't improve on or make unique anything that has already been done in past anime or movies. 6/10 for me.

Hopefully, the next arc will be better now that all this development occurred.

SoFarGone 2012-01-12 18:59

Shu had guts when he was a kid. Hopefully he returns to that the second half of the show.

Manic 2012-01-12 19:25

well this ep pretty much explained all the past memories, and i ended up being hit and miss with my predictions. Got inori right, but didnt expect mana to actually be his sister or that she'd be some crazy alien hybrid that wanted to create a new race with her brother (blood related or not). Not to thrill about him being able to completely forget he had a sister or that his mom is either his step or adoptive parent. Would like to know more about his father and the origins of Mana. Also did she get infected from Gai or where? never really explained that part.

Not sure where they go from here, or what they will end up doing with inori. I know u still have bushy brows and segai floating around. I guess Haruka was able to listen in to the events so id assume she knows shu remembers? Seems odd that theyd completely erase mana and gai from existence. I figured mana's soul would still play a part since the goal seems to make some new form of human.

Well anywho i did enjoy the episode and looking forward to the next arc

haha i did notice something else a bit humorous at the end of the episode. Gai's jacket somehow flies up and enters shu's escape bubble, so i wonder if ol shus gonna be pimping around in his new jacket in the following eps

kk2extreme 2012-01-12 19:56

So Mugi the other void user is the final boss (or at least a major boss)?

com_gwp 2012-01-12 20:03

MFW this episode. WHAT. :twitch:

The Mana thing got solved awfully fast. Guess we must go DEEPER. :heh:

Edit: I'm sorry guys...but I can't take this anymore. From this episode on, I've stopped watching this for the plot already. I'm just gonna have fun seeing the writers push crazier boundaries than they did in Code Geass and admire the glorious trainwreck.

Prince of Chips 2012-01-12 20:30

Such a great episode, that's the stuffs I was expecting in the first episode

Jao 2012-01-12 21:37

Oh hell.

That was really something.

I don't remember when I've laughed so much in my life. It was a positively therapeutic experience. Every single line of dialogue that came out of Mana's mouth made me tear up. I was hyperventillating by the end and my chest was hurting. My GOD.

10/10 If every episode of Guilty Crown was this good then it'd be the most hilarious anime ever.

It looked like Segai and Haruka helped them by opening a gate for them to go through.

At that point, Shu already has obtained King mode, which effectively meant that Keido no longer had the right to become king. Shu is now Daath's focus, and Keido was no longer needed.

The Lost Christmas

The waiting for the hiatus to end paid off very well.

This episode solved many answers as to the relation that Gai and Shuu actually had connected all along in their childhood. They also answered the mystery about Inoris' origin, and the trigger to the Lost Christmas breakout from ten years ago.

2. In the previous episode, Shuichiro discloses her plans with Haruka, and she states in shock not to drag Shu. So, how much Haruka could have known about Shu inheriting the Void?, and if she also suspected or came to realize, although lately, that Mana became infected with the Apocalypse Virus?
Who else could possibly had known the truth of infection around Mana? Shuichirou and Daath either they definitely knew or found out, and since Shuichirou was research partners at that time with Kurosu, then perhaps Kurosu was involved as well.
i went back and was rewatching episode 7 and during that ep there are hints that haruka could be responsible for Mana coming into contact with the virus stone. While she is having her meeting with that old guy, she says she bears half the responsibility for everything and he responds saying it was a tragic accident.

Its looking like haruka is gonna have to do some explaining in the 2nd half of the story

also thinking Gai did work for GHQ which would explain his skillz, knowledge of voids, and having inori. I am guessing once he learned of their true motive and the creation of inori he took her and formed his own group to save mana.

Xaturas 2012-01-12 22:13

Good finish, as some said before me it could easily end now, with town in rumbles, threat destroyed while there still some foreshadowing for the future.
Most of the revelations could be predicted before
-gai shu relationship
-mana being the sister, and also in love
-haruka being a new mother (she's kinda young ...).

Now we will see what happens next.

Who is the new void user:
a) alien being overwatching human evolution trough voids (aka helping both sides)
b)Shu father reincarnation or body replacement (deadman wonderland main baddie huhuhu)
c)something completely different

Hmmmmmmm this shows has its goods and its bads but still I deem it more worthy than most of the shows last/this season, as long as you look past some *situations* with power usage, its really a good story.

trinitem 2012-01-12 22:21

That felt a lot like a series end lol.... I have no idea what to expect from here on out. Maybe a better Shu would be a start?

We have 2 routes

Route 1
If anime become shit after ep 12, we pretend it ended at ep 12 and rest was just a dream.

Route 2
If anime becomes good then we are happy and consider it a 2 cour series which was slow at start with a *wtf hero of the week* which became a great story later.

Then, it looks like Haruka won't be able to hide things from Shu longer, and she'll sure properly apologize to both Shu and Inori.

I just hope Shu finding the background behind the truth about Mana from Haruka won't raise her death flag not much about GHQ, but because Daath's still out there.
