Why is there not a thread for Shounen Onmyouji? :twitch: All I can say is the images look very pretty! The first episode should've aired around yesterday but I don't think I notice any raws nor comments.

So did anyone living in Japan even watch this? :uhoh: I just really like the art.

I just watched it.

I would say the animation is average. The music sounds nice though, gives me flashback of Basilisk (both series are composed by the same person BTW.)
But the episode is kind of slow, and it doesn't really grab my interest at all. I think it would be better if the main character is a girl instead of a boy (don't know why:heh: ). I will check a few more episodes before I drop it though.

Oh, also, the OP is by Kajiura. Hmm...it's not as spectacular as her other work. I would say it's her average stuff.

Another OP song by Kajiura, how unexpected. :p The other, possibly better-sounding one, is the OP of the upcoming Irohanihoheto anime.

I watched the first episode and I rather enjoyed it. The animation was okay, but I'm a sucker for guys with necklaces. Good possibility of a R1 DVD release I'm sure:

There's a difference between Geneon and Geneon USA. If they mention Geneon USA in the credits, it is prelicensed. This merely means that there is a good chance of it.

I'd really like to see this show. Ever since Harukanaru Toki no Naka de, I've been interested in "onmyouji" characters...

I see. But even so, Andrew's sub list does not show anyone planning to sub it. The manga art is really nice, too, by the way.

I'd watch anything involving Abe no Seimei, even if it is crap. This looks potentially interesting, but the fact that it's female-oriented/targetted worries me a bit.

The OP animation almost made me not want to watch this. But the animation in the episode itself was much more interesting. I liked the look. I liked the voice-acting. I thought the companion animal was one of the best I've seen, and I liked his other form, too. I liked the onmyoudou magic. And I just loved the Heian setting. But the story didn't do much for me, at least not yet.

I sometimes wonder if the Japanese themselves even know of any other onmyouji other than Abe no Seimei. Because that guy gets used and abused way to much in anime and Japanese cinema. Of course, Abe is not the main character, but they are difinitely parasitizing on his name. 8)

Shounen Onmyouji is, for a lack of a better description, the "Young Indiana Jones" of Abe no Seimei mythos. And as "Young Indiana Jones" is definitely not "Raiders for the Lost Arc, Shounen Onmyouji is definitely not Otogizoushi.

But as a typical shounen series for 13-15 year olds, it does its job just fine.

What is particularly odd is that it's based on a series of light novels targetted at women, but based on the first episode aside from the bishounen demon it seems really, really shounen.

(also, it shouldn't be on at stupid o'clock at night, but that's neither here nor there)

It certainly has its share of typical Heian bishie characters, but episode 1 was mainly about the main character fighting monsters, which is purely shounen.

Beans Bunko is a light novel label for girls.

While the magazine The Beans is a female oriented novel magazine aimed at girls from their teens to women in their twenties.

But Shounen Onmyouji was only published under the Beans Bunko light novel label, which is a label published by Kadokawa Shoten and aimed at girls.

A manga based on the light novel is serialized in the manga magazine Beans Ace (which is according to the publisher is a magazine for males and females).

No volumes are currently out of the manga.

Genre: Shoujo, Fantasy

Yeah typical shounen fair, but with obvious shoujo origins, but done really well considering. I found it rather entertaining although I don't know much about the history of the onmyoji. I really liked Guren (rabbit fox thing?) and the setting was cool.

I really hope someone subs this as I may just end up following this one.

Well, the first episode has been fansubbed by DBZLuisD Fansubs.....I haven't heard of this fansub group before but hey...:heh:
