How to draw anime/manga characters?
 

Can anyone help me,

I want to lern how to draw anime / manga characters.
I dont have a tablet or pen, I'll have to use the mouse, and drawing on paper at first and maybe I'll buy a tablet or pen sometime later if I really like this.
I'll have to start with basics and stuff, I like drawing but I'm not gifted...
And what kind of program should I use ?
Maybe someone knows a toturial or something like that.

Word of advice, if you're serious about drawing, start with realism. Learning how to draw realism gives you a much greater understanding of any cartoony drawing style and more flexibility.

Also keep in mind that the best and most creative anime artists themselves do not stick completely to other anime artists for their stylistic influence.

Also, keep practicing all the time, and don't get discouraged!

Yupp. Realizm is the best way to start.

besides. the part you said first about being gifted. Suuuuure some people learn fast. But everyone were rookies at some point.

Look at me for instance. My drawings still suck (acording to me anyways).
Mostly cause i haven´t practised very much lately. But that's how it is with everything. Practise,Practise,Practise. ^_^ Just hang in there. Do your best. And go with the style you find suits you the most in the end. belive me, it's the best to do.

Though if you like. You can drop me a line on msn and i can give you a few pointers and send you a few pages with basic, "yet extremely important" art consepts.

Practice makes perfect. If you're new to drawing, start by drawing stuff in every day life and learn to "see" things in volumes rather than lines. If you already have experience, just remember that anime figures like most things can be broken down into simple shapes like cylinders, rectangular prisms, etc. As for anatomy style and such, anime tends to focus on "perfect" bodies or rather perfect proportions. I suggest you not think about your drawings like this now, it will haunt you later on. Not saying you need to be arrogant or anything, but if you think you are not good before you start, it will slow your progress down by a lot.

Secondly watch the way you make strokes when drawing. If you start off with bad strokes, they will be incredibly hard to correct later on.

I think I'm gonna put a lot of spare time on drawing, and get real good at it,
I've gotta get some good pencils and stuff... have to wait with that untill I've got my salary

just bought meselfe a fuw pencils and a new scetshbook I had just enough money :D

Well, if you simply like to draw manga characters, it's probably quicker to find a model.

Choose a style you like, find all the pictures you can of that style, then trace it, copy it, devour it. When you can recreate a model without the picture, you pretty much have your intended results.

I shall try that later on, at first i've gotta get into realism and get better in drawing and my strokes after that I'm gonna get fully into anime and manga char's

Just drawn a fuw heads "based on tuturials" 1 turned out almost human...
I've read 2 "how to draw anime/manga" books, I lerned af fuw usefull things. I can draw a basic head now not detailed and I'm gonna practice other positions of the head now... After that I'll start with basic positions.

...you can...start on anime drawing straight away.
...just practice...a lot...might take you...years.

Yeah, just don't let drawing become a chore. Draw anime and cartoons all you like for fun, just as serious practice, realism will offer you the skills you need to eventually reach pro abilities.

It's a long process, though. I have been drawing all my life, and I would not say my drawing abilities were even decent until late into my time at art school. It took me longer than that to develope decent colouring skills. I'm 26 now, 4+ years out of art school, and I still think I have a long ways to go before I'm even near the talent of many professionals I admire.
