Newtype January issue announced a new manga series to be serialized on Shonen Ace magazine
The new Newtype issue also mentions that the story script is fully written by anime director Gorō Taniguchi. The same guy who was the director of both S1 and S2 of the Code Geass anime. Also, The story takes place in the Edo era.
Brief overview -
Quote:

The January issue of Kadokawa Shoten's Newtype magazine is announcing on Thursday that Tomomasa Takuma (Code Geass: Nightmare of Nunnally, Kurogane Communication) is drawing a manga that is tentatively titled Code Geass: Shikkoku no Renya (Code Geass: Jet-Black Renya or Code Geass: Renya of the Blackness) next year. Goro Taniguchi, the director and story co-creator of the original Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion television anime series, created the new manga's story concepts and is scripting the story. This is the first manga that Taniguchi is directly scripting himself.

The story takes place in the same official Code Geass history as the anime, but in a different era. The title character, Renya, is a 17-year-old boy with a mechanical left arm and shuriken throwing stars as his weapons of choice. The story begins when Renya encounters a mysterious, perpetually young witch named "Reifū C.C." C.C. has appeared in Japan's historical Edo era to seek a new partner for a covenant. Meanwhile, a mysterious man, with a striking resemblance to the character Lelouch of the original anime, also appears with unknown intentions.

The new manga is part of next year's new Code Geass project launch. Code Geass producer Yoshitaka Kawaguchi revealed on the franchise's website that the new project will feature the simultaneous releases of serialized comics, music, new products under development, and visual works.

Sweetness, now it's got its own thread. Yep, I'm really looking forward to this, and I hope we get news and details some time in early 2010 (Please don't make us wait till late Summer or Fall of 2010 Sunrise, you trollish bastards)

TrueElements 2009-12-06 03:26

why do I have 2 threads o.o

I am wanting to be hopeful about it, but I find it hard to be til we have some details or idea at least of what this will be, like an OVA of after R2, or "redo" of R2 could be very good, but something else not sure how I would feel about it.

monir 2009-12-06 03:31

This show is a cash cow. And any studioes in their right mind, especially Sunrise, wouldn't abandon a cow that gives cash. Look at Gundam for better example. Few of us already predicted that it was just a matter of time. I'm happy for the Code Geass fans even though I personally don't think much about this series. Don't think about jumping me. I'll bite you and give you rabies.

Rising Dragon 2009-12-06 03:32

You mean rabies.

*flees*

TrueElements 2009-12-06 03:32

I could see them quickly turning one of the mangas sidestorys into a anime tho.

To be fair, Gundam wasn't exactly a cash cow when it first aired.

Ah, this again. To be quite honest, I really really REALLY hope they don't do this. Maybe it's just me, but I think it would probably be very boring if they just did an anime adaptation of Non or SotC.

Solmiki 2009-12-06 03:48

i hope the new project is about Nightmare of Nunally :D
Nunally does indeed deserves her own show!~

So long as Bandai's still working with them on this, you need not worry about Suzaku of the Counterattack being animated.

I don't follow.

Well, the way I hear it, NoN is the best CG manga anyway, so yeah, I'd prefer that over SotC.

August 10, 2010,

That's because you started another thread in the Licensed Section prior to posting a request for it here. :p Thread was moved here and merged. Anyway, remedied.

Bandai wants models. Things that they can make a profit off of. In Code Geass, that means Knightmare Frames.

Suzaku of the Counterattack lacks Knightmare Frames.

Ergo, Bandai doesn't want Suzaku of the Counterattack.

It was obviously popular enough to warrant a continuation and in anime industry the synoym for popularity is cash.

TrueElements: Upload your image to an Image Hosting site. ANN , like many other sites, doesn't like hotlinking.

Only when it was aired for re-runs. First time through, it got its ass canceled.

When Gundam started, anime is still experimenting, so couldn't blame the reaction, but it obviously found its way out of the dog-house. And the rest is history. The point is that popularity results in continuation. I got my jollies out of all those heated arguments about how Code Geass has to end just because the hero is dead. Hah! :p

You might want to rehost in ImageShack or some other place. Photobucket links usually expires after a certain number of views since the site has limited bandwidth restriction for its users.

SonOfHeaven 2009-12-06 04:17

Guess we'll have to wait till next year(hopefully not to long) for more information. Not to much to go on right now other than the same speculations people been saying all year.

I think it'll be an AU in some way. If they decided to bring Lelouch back. However, I wouldn't mind if its an direct sequel with Suzaku as Zero. With the other major characters in it as well. Still want an Suzaku, Kallen and Nunnally conversation about Lelouch and ZR.

I definitely wouldn't want an manga adaptation. Rather have something brand new that no one will know how it ends.

Good point, went ahead and changed it.

Ah, I gotcha. Too true. And what's Code Geass without mechs anyway? :)

"Astute observers will note that this announcement coincides with Lelouch’s birthday. There’s no word yet either whether it’ll be an OVA or full series or what, but apparently there’ll be more news in the new year."

Well, let's just hope that "new year" does in fact mean some time in the beginning of January.

patnam 2009-12-06 04:43

What happen if it follows GSD version...
Like Lelouch and Suzaku will be secondary protagonists while there will be a new primary protagonist...

they wouldn't do that..
if so it would probably be Rai
but they have enough material to choose from, my guess is that at Christmas they will release their next promo of sort (maybe a trailer with quotes, or just voice and some used pics)
but it is all open for suggestions, OVA, NoN or an R3

Kuroshinobu 2009-12-06 04:55

I'm all for R3 if they manage to pull it off... The original plan for R2 would be a welcome idea too, I'm curious to see what would have been the outcome.

bladeofdarkness 2009-12-06 05:37

would have been the same outcome
only via a different route

ac195 2009-12-06 07:21

ruh roh...

Here comes L.L. ....

I'm still waiting for Char and Amuro... Come on Sunrise/Bandai...

magnum 2009-12-06 07:25

Wow. Lovely.

2010, hurry!

HollowScar 2009-12-06 08:12

Well, I am more than content. I have been looking for an anime that really fits the criteria of Code Geass, and Death Note. There should be more anime's like these, than stupid Yaio anime's.

For the new one, they should have a new protagonist in a different country, getting the geass power by C.C. An older Suzaku, and Kallen should make a cameo, with at least one of them getting married and having children, or showing something to indicate they moved on. Lelouch can make media appearances on television, or posters, or books, just like Hitler. It would be great if by this time, the world found out the truth about Zero Requiem, and did not care much, as it was too long ago. Also, if some characters looked like the ones in Code Geass, that wouldn't be too bad either.

I am just a hopeful. Since it is a rebirth, I am assuming, that it will be a new story with either new character's or old one's with a different plot. In that case, it would kind of suck. Other than that, I can't wait. YAY!!!

patnam 2009-12-06 09:34

Looking for it in 2010, and see if there is any information about new Code Geass and its 'trailer'...

Spoiler for just imagine how the teaser looks like...:

I would smash my Code Geass collection and anything related to Sunrise Studios into pieces if that ever happened.

Crontica 2009-12-06 09:58

They finally gave up the goat.

The only thing i can see bypassing the Nerd Rage filter is if they make Rai the next protagonist, deluge on Suzakus whereabouts, C.C's final stand, or Nunnally's nightmare.

Anything else is instant fail. OVAs that try to prep up cast characters that no one gives shit about always fail, Darker than Black OVA was a mess.

Von Himmel 2009-12-06 10:05

Just because you think that it's fail, doesn't mean that other people will think the same.. but meh, I'm looking forward to this.
