[PC/PS3/360] Dishonored

A very interesting looking game. It's apparently the debut title for the newly organized Arkane Studios.

Official Game Site: http://www.dishonored.com/
Arkane Studios Website: http://www.arkane-studios.com/uk/index.php

Quote:

You are the once-trusted bodyguard of the beloved Empress. Framed for her murder, you become an infamous assassin, known only by the disturbing mask that has become your calling card. In a time of uncertainty, when the city is being besieged by plague and ruled by an oppressive government armed with neo-industrial technologies, dark forces conspire to bestow upon you, abilities beyond those of any common man – but at what cost? The truth behind your betrayal is as murky as the waters surrounding the city, and the life you once had is gone forever.
It shall be released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms plus PC as well. No release date has been announced yet.

Personally, after just watching the trailer I'm very interested. A lot of folks are saying it looks like the lovechild of Assassin's Creed and Bioshock. I'm inclined to agree with them, but that doesn't make it unappealing to me.~

The setting is cool too. It's like a World War I time era with a touch of supernatural science fiction flair.

Looking forward to seeing some gameplay.~

Well , the alternative-futurist past looks intriguing but it looks like the same , and same FPS -Bullet time,Speed,Hand power..... let's hope that the story will be impressive.

Looks great, we need more steampunk IPs.
I'm fairly indifferent to the gameplay hinted(?) in the trailer other than FPS view parkour aspect.

Hopefully that would be a gameplay mechanic instead of just a trailer presentation.

This game..is gonna be good..ho yeah.....

i have fate....

Drake 2012-04-19 08:31

I have been keeping tabs on this for a while as the idea sounded pretty interesting but now that I've seen the trailers I'm kinda excited.

It reminds me of Thief with a steampunk twist.

Kyral 2012-04-19 10:20

A game I have my eyes on for quit a time.
As I really liked Dark Messiah of Might & Magic, I have very high hopes for it's "successor".

Another interesting thing is that they have Harvey Smith (from Deus Ex and Thief: Deadly Shadows) as well as Viktor Antonov (The designer of Half-Life 2, just in case you wondered a little about the Combine-like designs of the cars) on the team.

@Drake:
Well, Thief 2 already had plenty of steampunk. :D

Woah keep Syn away from this game, another brown hair facial haired white guy :heh:

Looks cool so far, yea I totally see the assassins creed/bioshock in the trailer, but who knows if that'll be the actual gameplay.

Keroko 2012-04-19 14:56

The world itself looks interesting, but I'm curious about the gameplay. The trailer suggests first person gameplay, but how will it work>

SilverSyko 2012-04-19 15:09

There are screenshots taken directly from the game build itself on the official website. Gives you a nice idea of the perspective you'll be playing from, which is indeed first-person.

The A-List cast of Dishonored

Quote:

Susan Sarandon, an Academy Award winner and five-time nominee, will make her videogame debut as the former aristocrat, Granny Rags – an intriguing old blind woman now deranged after years of street life. Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe-winner Brad Dourif takes on the role of the inventor Piero, creator of the iconic mask worn by Corvo as well as a wealth of gadgets Corvo can use. Emmy winner and Hollywood-icon Carrie Fisher can be heard broadcasting government propaganda over loudspeakers throughout the city of Dunwall, where the game is set.

The all-star cast continues with John Slattery ("Mad Men," "The Adjustment Bureau") who takes on the role of Admiral Havelock, a Loyalist who helps Corvo on his quest, as well as Michael Madsen who brings his videogame voiceover experience to the role of Daud, a mysterious assassin. Chloë Grace Moretz ("Kick-Ass," "Hugo") portrays Young Lady Emily, the Empress' daughter who is kidnapped after her mother's death while Lena Headey joins the cast as Calista, Emily's caretaker. In addition to the star-studded voice cast, Composer Daniel Licht ("Dexter") lends his musical talents to create the game's original score.
So Princess Wensicia Corrino, Princess Leila and Queen Cersei joins the cast of Dishonored. A lot of royals in this game.

I really like the look of the game so far, but the only thing stopping me from pre-ordering it is that I only play games on the PC, and I don't know if the game is properly optimized for it. If its just a straight from console port the game will be terrible and no fun. Must find out :(

The only thing I heard about that was, that the PC version gets it own UI at least.
We can choose in the options + a few other things.

One of the points Arkane likes to make is that there is plenty of room for players to be as bloodthirsty - or not - as they wish (anyone else here tried for minimal if not zero kills back in Deus Ex or one of the MGS titles?). By way of showcasing that, they released recently a dual playthrough of a single mission in the game which can be found, probably among other places, here.

Consider, too, this more recent Gamespot entry. Granted, there's one problem brought up there that needs to be stomped on, quick, but otherwise it looks like the devs are running hot, straight, and normal.
