YESSSSSS!!!

I'm so glad this is getting an anime. This series is criminally unknown in the West, so I'm really hoping this inspires more people to pick it up.

I knew it is going to be anime with from the hints two weeks ago. All hail Narita! Glory to Bayade Empire!
Finally I get to see a moving and talking Corpse Temple.
Oh, and release the full VA roster quick! I need to know who is going to voice Clarissa and Solitaire!

Ugh, I bought the first two volumes of this back when Bookwalker had a sale a year or two ago. I couldn't get past the first two or three chapters. Maybe, the anime will hold my interest better.

Matsuoka would make a great Solitaire.

Narita? I'm in.

Director Manabu Ono is going to work on this show, I believe his work on Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere is by far his best, almost no other work directed by him comes close in terms of passion and care put into it.

Odd, given there is an official English translation of the manga by Yen Press.

Crunchyroll will stream it

So, Emilia from Durarara is going to voice Clarissa? Ahahaha.
Now, reveal Solitaire's VA already!

magnuskn 2023-04-10 16:32

Well, that certainly was a promising start. Didn't expect the necromancer dude to get reverse-isekai'd. :heh: I guess we'll have to see where it goes from here.

Shagrua got Kusao's voice? How fitting.
Hopefully they do the novella chapters too so he gets more screen time.

Oh, and Takahashi Hiroki is a wonderful choice for Solitaire.

I spent most of the episode wondering which of the necromancer or the hero had been reverse isekai'd. Initially thought it was the necromancer since he was in a dead body and all but his comments about this world being peaceful and his concerns about the world he left behind made me think it was the hero after all. But nope. I was happy about it, having a morally gray/evil MC is better than some hero type.

His reaction when he realized the assassin wasn't playing dead and he had truly killed her in one blow was funny. We'll know he'll revive her since she in the OP though. Can't say I particularly care for her design.

Anyway, seems promising.

I was worried but this first episode was excellent stuff. A great intro to this crazy version of Shinjuku.

They did use some of the novella info here so they really might end up doing it.

Jonouchi, 1999 Hisoka and 2011 Pariston. Yeah, I can see why they gave it to him.

Rewatching the episode again.
Is it just me, or would it be better if the shorten the Corpse Temple vs. Shagrua fight and end the episode at the part with Clarissa instead?
I get it that they want to recreate the ch.1 from the manga. But the fight really felt too long.

Endscape 2023-04-10 20:21

I like that they lengthened the fight and expanded on Shagrua's characterization. It'll make things easier down the line if they choose to go that route.

grecefar 2023-04-10 22:56

yeah, they fooled me too that it was the necromancer and not the knight who was reincarnated.

and that ending was hilarious, what did he expect?, lol.

Spoiler for ep1:

Girl is kind of crazy, wish she got smacked around a bit more instead of getting oneshot. I know she will stick around though.

Wonder what his whole reason for going to the Corpse God route was. Since here after the soul transfer, he seems regular enough. I do like the idea of soul energy sticking around near places of death.

shmaster 2023-04-13 03:18

Why is Nero at 1:45 to 1:50 suddenly break the narrative and tossed in an out of place reference to Fire Breathing Bug?

The song as whole is referencing Corpse Temple except that one part. And it is Fire Breathing Bug out of all people. What a weird choice.
