I don't think what they do is actually classified as swimming. Beta cross oceans by literally walking in the oceans floor.

BETAs can walk underwater, and is the main mode by the larger class. They also travel by tunneling under the sea bed. The smaller classes are carried by Fort class for these longer distances.
