To Aru Kagaku no Railgun archived manga discussion

Thread for the manga of Toaru Kagaku no Railgun (とある科学の超電磁砲/A Certain Scientific Railgun):

For more information on the setting, look at the anime thread
http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=67218

There isn't much to explain other than that. Railgun is a side story focusing on Mikoto.

There are two volumes out.
There seems only to be one chapter translated out though.
---

Have not bought the actual volumes, but since it was just a click or two (or five or six) away, I read the first chapter.
It's only one chapter, but I've taken a liking to it. Probably just because the Mikoto's electric abilities are so... devastating (and appealing).

ugh... someone do the scanlation :heh:

Chaos2Frozen 2008-06-27 02:29

I was about to post on the other thread when a little back tracking reveals that there's already a thread for this :heh:

I've just read the first three english chap scans of the main series, tried looking for more, but ended up with A Certain Scientific Railgun instead :heh:

(Gotta love the titles...)

I've just finished one and a half volume, meaning 11 chapters, and it's definitely a more interesting story... Well, it's not really fair to compare it with only 3 chapters :heh:

The story runs some what parallel to the Toaru Majutsu no Index right? Considering the occasional appears of Touma, who just knows how to push Makoto's buttons without even trying :heh: Heck, if I'm not wrong, she disappeared for 3 whole chapters just to hunt him down :heh:

serenade_beta 2008-06-27 06:12

Finally got and finished with two volumes + 1 chapter (total, 14 chapters)...

*nod*
Scientific Railgun definitely ended up being more interesting and fun then Magic Index.
-For one thing, I ended up liking the art more.
-Another is the plot (the mystery surrounding the Power Upper) proved to be exciting (especially the whole Saten Ruiko thing, where I panicked every episode on whether she would use it or not).
-Third! Mikoto is far better than that Index! Railgun, saikouuuu!!! :D
-Fourth, I felt more from the dramatic scenes!
-And I guess, last reason is that I find the whole science thing more interesting than the magic thing.
And probably more reasons I can't put into words, because reading it itself is the best way!

Unfortunately, at chp. 14, it's a cliffhanger...

As for Mikoto... tsundere, definitely tsundere. I had a hunch the moment I ever saw her, but it's certain, yep.
And her power... PIKACHUUUUU!!!
*cough*
I had to say that. Thunder and all... :heh:

Also, it seems Mikoto is very loved by fans. Very loved... :uhoh:

Spoiler for a few thoughts so far:

It seems so. But technically, it is just a side story not existent in the novels. There are even original characters in here.
Mikoto, not Makoto, by the way.
Touma's nickname for her is funny. びりびり中学生

One last!

I myself would wait for more chapters from a certain magic Index to come out first...

Damnit, why can't I the least find a chinese scan somewhere?

About that... They aren't drawn by the same artist?

I expected as much myself, it would be a sin for her NOT to be :p

Especially her inability to let Touma live in peace :heh:

Actually, it might be more because of her firing the lightning from her head :heh:

--She's a hard worker, going from Lv.1 to Lv.5
--Cute. Loved the scene at the restaurant where she played nice girl.
--The good kind of tsundere. There are ones that break the mood and are annoying, and there are ones that are fun to watch. She even seems to have a Touma Radar
--The cute pajama scene at the store. :heehee:
etc.

Generally I'm very inclined towards Tsunderes, with the exception of a one or two very outstanding individuals, I usually have no problem liking them  Mikoto is no different

LOL at the "Touma-Radar" :D I would post that image in here, but the website where I got it from wouldn't allow me to =_=

Touma Radar: Kamijou Touma, discovered!
Mikoto: Kill!! *dash*

Pretty much "tingling/trembling middle schooler".
びりびり, I believe, is how you feel after getting shocked, and thus, Touma calls her that all the time.

No. Magic Index was drawn by Kogino Chuya, and Scientific Railgun was drawn by Fuyukawa Motoi. Though I must admit, putting the cover art aside, the art style really does seem similar...

Lol yeah, that's the one... After which she disappeared for about 3 chapters to hunt him down :heh:

Lol I see... Goes unexpectingly well with the scene before when she unintentionaly 'checkmates' herself to Touma, who then went easy on her because she 'looked' scared :heh:

I see I see...

P.S - Btw, have you heard the drama CD sample(s) on their website :D ?

The first one has Touma, Index and Mikoto going about in a... Cafe?

(My Japanese listening skills is Lv 0.5... A abit, but still not enough :heh:)

Sample 2 has Kuroko in it... Damn, her 'evil' / 'scheming' voice is awesome :heh:

Thank you. Though for some reason I can't get them to play

Both were pretty funny. :heh:
Besides for Mikoto (and a bit of Touma), the voices for Index and Kuroko were a bit different from what I expected... This cast isn't bad, but I wouldn't mind a new cast for the anime.
And listening to the lightning... ow-ow-ow-ow-ow-ow...

I haven't listened to the actual drama CD yet though.
I was thinking about listening to it, but I stopped myself since I didn't really know the characters and it would be kind of pointless to listen to it while not knowing anything. I might go back and listen to it, though there are still some characters I don't know...

serenade_beta 2008-07-11 16:11

Chp15 wasn't too exciting. Just a preparation to another chapter... Too little Mikoto, too much crazy scientist.

These two pages really reminded me of Elfen Lied's dicloniuses' vectors (with no blood)...

Also, another amusing thing is the appearance of characters from vol.15
Spoiler for just the picture:

I do find it (it=current events) amazing... when I remember that Mikoto is still in middle school. Σ(;゚Д゚)

A funny product I found on Amazon... Click

Vol.2 of Railgun+Index Poker...
Wanted it... but it was sold out. ___(´;ω;`)

serenade_beta 2008-07-28 23:08

Oh~, finally a new chapter. I've been waiting~
And with this chapter, the first arc is finished (wait, there's more...?)! ⊂( ゚ヮ゚)⊃

It... was okay, but it's like times like this that I wish I was a bit more knowledgeable in science... Leaves me a bit confused at times... And there was a page that was just "(゚Д゚) HAH?!"
Oh well, it wasn't that bad/hard...
There was also a part of me that thought the battle finished too quickly.

Spoiler for a few pages from the chapter:

Recently, I've only found new chapters of Railgun... Wish I could find new Index chapters too...
。・゜・(つД`)・゜・。 Imouto~~~

mako1138 2008-07-30 02:15

I've been working on scanlating this; I have to rely on WWWJDIC for most of the kanji, so it's a slow process. Chapter 2 is coming along, though I've been busy with other things lately. Scanlation sure is a lot of work. :( The only thing keeping me going is the tsundere-ness. :D

Chaos2Frozen 2008-07-30 03:56

Sigh, Chinese scans isn't coming out with anything either...

elroid 2008-08-28 04:06

found something intresting...

Chaos2Frozen 2008-08-28 04:27

I have a sneak suspicion about what that is, but can someone translate the text on the left?

elroid 2008-08-28 06:27

if im not wrong, it is about the announcement for making the anime, the title is Toaru Kagaku no Railgun SS

Pretty much something like that. Newest TV anime information, collaboration of *insert novel author name* and *insert Railgun mangaka name*, Toaru Kagaku no Railgun SS first appearance

I believe there was a novel volume labled SS too...

I'm still waiting on more specific/clear news, since Moonphase and such haven't said anything on it yet. If it does end up being true, then yay~!
Well, either way, *saves pic*

Chp.2 was scanned by some group a while back.
