Rurouni Kenshin: Tsuiokuhen/Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal or Onegai teacher , those 2 made me cry.

onegai teacher for me is something that i would love to live.

minhtam1638 2008-03-24 17:25

Tragic... have you tried Elfen Lied?

splinter500 2008-04-13 12:04

Weird... I don't find Elfen Lied or Lord of the Flies tragic at all :// (not at all depressing)

I would also like more recommendation for this topic :)

KholdStare 2008-04-13 12:56

To repeat a post I've made some time ago, have you seen SaiKano yet? That is probably the most tragic anime I have seen.

FuzzyWuzzy 2008-04-13 13:11

Tragic?
Just read some poems, short stories and you'll cry like there's no tomorrow.
Just go to yahoo or google and search for sad stories and poems.

lolz the post above mine was posted at 11:11 PST.

Edit: Nevermind.
Kudos for reviving an old thread for recycling instead of ehh.. nothing.
I also didn't find Lord of the Flies very tragic or sad at all, but I never liked Piggy in the first place.

Edit 2: Holy crap, I was looking through the thread to second+ stuff, and this thread has now been revived TWICE and been put to good use.
This merits a

I definitely second Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora and SaiKano. Grave of the Fireflies is sad, but on a different level and type of sadness. I also recommend Kimi ga Nozomu Eien like always.

I'll second whatever this guy says.
Speaking of which, I have to rewatch Tsuiokuhen because I haven't seen it since I was small(er).

Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora has one of those endings in which you know you shouldn't be sad, but you still are.

Seconding+ Air and Kanon 2006 as good Key-KyoAni works.
Kanon isn't really what I'd call a "tragedy", though it's not a happy anime.

Seconding+ 5 Centimeters per Second and Voices of a Distant Star as saddening, though again, not necessarily tragedies. The Place Promised in our Early Days isn't something I would group with the other two in terms of "sadness", but its themes are similar with its presentation different. I found it to be more of a "touching" movie than a "tragic" one.

Seconding+ ef ~ a tale of memories as a good anime series, though it's not as sad as some others here.

5 Centimeters Per Second - aside from being beautifully drawn, having an excellent score and an enveloping pace this three part theatrical feature displays the tragedy of one's separation from his dreams; the powerlessness one has against circumstance and the struggle one's life becomes to attain something so futile.

And in my opinion, Tenmon's work in ef far exceeded his work in 5 Centimeters per Second.

Seconding+ Elfen Lied. It has the potential to be sad, depending on how you interpret some of the events.

Also seconding+ Sola. If you can keep up with it, the ending is similar to another one mentioned in this thread sporadically.

Fate Stay Night made me feel how you were describing in the end. Even though it's mostly action, they develop character relations pretty well. So I say give it a try.

KholdStare 2008-04-13 15:25

Oh yes, qtip, you need to watch SaiKano, like now. ;)

FuzzyWuzzy 2008-04-13 16:14

In Saikano, I felt sad already when the

Spoiler for Saikano:

I didn't have the strength to watch episodes after that cause I felt really bad and sad whenever

One way to get really sad is watching the Clannad movie after watching the series.
I did and wouldn't recomend it.
But then the topic is crying and feeling something tragic, so it kind of fits.

Happy_Chip 2008-04-13 16:22

Grave of the Fireflies.

Ditto to Grave of the Fireflies.

This will make you cry. I don't care who you are and how tough you think you are, you'll cry. Guaranteed.

I think the word I'd use to describe it is 'sobering' - I think it's safe to say, whatever problems you think you have in your life, are nowhere near as bad as the ones you see on screen. Watching this, you realize the fragility of life and you can emerge from this film, thankful for what you have.

NervZero 2008-04-13 18:09

LOL.. I'm not sure this fits what you are looking for but I recently watch an anime that was made around 1999 called Crest of the Stars it was good but it doesnt get sad until the third season..

Crest of the Stars
Banner of the Stars (TV) (sequel)
Banner of the Stars II (TV) (sequel)
Banner of the Stars III (OAV)

NaNaNicole 2008-04-13 18:34

Hm...

I cried when I watched Air TV, and Bokura Ga Ita.

Yah during School Days I kinda cried and at the same time I was like (o.O) wtf!?

Tri-ring 2008-04-13 18:34

As a Japanese I must insist on "A Dog of Flanders" to be placed on the list.
I have heard of a study that people of age 35 and over will start shedding tears through conditioned reflex just watching the first ten seconds of the last scene accompanied by Ave Maria.
Another heart warming "Masterpiece theater series" that brings tears to your eyes is "3000 Leagues in Search of Mother".

cerrian 2008-04-14 14:27

One of the most tragic scenes I've seen that has brought me near to tears is Gunbuster.

I think it stands out in my mind even more because it comes at you from the side and there's no way you'll see it coming. In addition, it is a very unique kind of tragedy yet it leaves a satisfied feeling in the end.

splinter500 2008-04-14 18:19

yeah I have seen saikano, I was just a bit surprise to what happen to the girl. Then honestly, it a bit sad but also sometime boring

gh0stmice 2008-04-17 08:25

holy crap.....this thread lives on!!!!

im shocked

but its true...recycling is a good thing

Reno 2008-04-17 09:34

Hey gh0stmice... I thought you'd left us.

GoTz 2008-04-18 06:49

Scrapped Princess was quite sad IMO...I wouldn't want to be hated/hunted by the ENTIRE world O_o

HayashiTakara 2008-04-18 07:30

Definately Fushigi Yuuji, one of the most heart tearing scenes I've ever seen was in this show.

I think I'm the only one that'll ever recommend this, but Aishiterzu Baby, everytime that little munchkin Yuzuyu bust out the tears, I can't help but break out the water works. Its about a little girl (4 or 5 IIRC ), that got abandoned by her mother, and her cousin is raising her. Its basically dealing with the trials a child deals with abandonment.

Oh forgot to mention, Ayashi no Ceres, thats another good one.
