OMG yahoo just upgrade my acount to 100 MB of space!

O_O!!!

this is unbelievable! not only I can hold 100Mb, but I can send emails of up to 10 Mb!!! They said it was for my loyalty ( I have that acount since 1996 I think) but this started to scare me, maybe im just paranoid as usual, but could it be some sort of hoax? anyone has their yahoo accounts upgraded??

Sakaki 2004-06-15 20:19

Not me, mine is still 15MB. But I set up my account Jan. of 98, so maybe in a couple of years.

Roots 2004-06-15 20:33

Proof that I'm in the loop

15Mb!?!? mine was only 6Mb  well, looks that now I have a super account anyway ^_^ still im all paranoid about it being a scam to stole my password or something like that

EDIT:

thanks roots! so this is for everyone then and not just the loyal yahoo users like me...

I think if you have an email account you have 2 gigs of space now.

2GB for an e-mail account? I highly doubt they are that generous. My old university gave us 500MB for our quota, which I never even came close to reaching even when I had 15 pages of 50 emails each. My new university only allows 10MB

100mb is a whole lot of porn. Man, but for the amt of spam I get daily its pretty small.

thevoman 2004-06-15 22:38

I have Google.com's gmail. They give you 1 GB for free.
Well, they're not open for registration yet. I got my account because my friend's dad works for Google.

You should get yourself on their e-mail list and pick up an account when gmail becomes available to everyone!

They also have good spam detection (so far)

---

I actually would be ok either way - I have a server at home just collect all my mail from the various accounts and deliver it to my machine via either IMAP or SquirrelMail (webmail interface) on my home connection. So really, I have no need for a large quota. And spam detection can be taken care of by my servers at home. Plus my friend hosts an e-mail relay for me that lets me send attachments of any (feasible) size.

mantidor 2004-06-15 22:41

oh, I see, but I don't think I'll need 1GB of email, why I would need that? still im going to get myself in the list, but for a different reason...

EDIT:

I tried to get in the list but I don't know how to!!! anyone :help: please?

Sakaki 2004-06-15 22:59

Opps, I misunder stood, I was thinking webspace size not email space. I just checked my yahoo email and got the upgrade notice.

I would rather have that space for the webpage rather than the email.

SBCYahoo would be a SBC dsl account, we have that at work.

Most of the email I get on my Yahoo account is spam, but then again it is the account I use when I give out my email address to places I don't really want to give my main address to. So far it has kept my main address pretty spam free, and the bulk folder picks up 99% of the spam on my Yahoo account.

Sakaki, I can’t help but email you: where did you get that cute avatar????? It’s sooooo cute!!!!!!! A cat drinking beer…. Can you tell me where you found it? Is there some more like this? Thanks!

About yahoo email and gmail: I sure would love to get one but I don’t think gmail is free. I heard it’s 2 gig? Really? How about the size limit of sending email, like attachement or just in general?

thevoman 2004-06-15 23:26

"Gmail is a free service and includes 1,000 megabytes of storage with each account. However, Gmail is still in preview mode as we test it to work out the kinks. So for now, it's not generally available."

-- gmail.google.com

Google's approach to e-mail is to make it so you don't even need folders to sort your mail (of course, you can have folders too if you want) and instead you'd use google's search technology to find the mail you want.

It has pretty good antispam and it's interface is fast and for the most part ad-free. (Unlike Hotmail... slow and bloated with all those images and ads and stuff ... ick)

Wow, that was a nice suprise. I discovered my yahoo email was upgraded as well. Oh goodie, don't have to pay to upgrade anymore.

Lefteris_D 2004-06-16 02:18

Ok everyone here is the info. Yahoo upgraded all the free accounts for the @yahoo.com domain from 4/6mb to 100mb and the payed accounts to 2GB. The rest of the yahoo domains will follow(my @yahoo.gr is still stuck an 4mb).

RichMan 2004-06-16 05:14

mine is at 100mb, and i've only been a member since the middle of 2000..

Meh, I don't really care about the storage, what I do care about is that I can mark more email as spam(before the upgrade it said I reached a limit and couldn't block anymore spam)

Ending 2004-06-16 07:10

Yay, nothing like 1 gig of viruses, spam, XXX, and Nigerians -one could think that even 4 megs were enough. :D

Just mark it as SPAM, and if you'll stop going to websites with virus's and Nigerians you won't have that problem.

momojigari 2004-06-16 08:05

Oh..I didn't even notice but I double checked my email and yah..i got a 100mb account as well. Pheew..good thing I didn't close this yahoo account.

The only problem w/ the whole gmail thing is the privacy. I'm not sure if google has modified their services, but wasn't gmail suppose to include a feature that automatically scans ur messages. A lil' bit of crossing my privacy there.

CerealKiller 2004-06-16 11:20

i had 4mb yahoo since 2003 (dunno when exactly), mine was updated yesterday to a hundred as well
