It looks like the manga Oshi no ko is getting a TV anime adaptation soon.

Plot Synopsis

Quote:

Sixteen-year-old Ai Hoshino is a talented and beautiful idol who is adored by her fans. She is the personification of a pure, young maiden. But all that glitters is not gold.

Gorou Amemiya is a countryside gynecologist and a big fan of Ai. So when the pregnant idol shows up at his hospital, he is beyond bewildered. Gorou promises her a safe delivery. Little does he know, an encounter with a mysterious figure would result in his untimely death—or so he thought.

Opening his eyes in the lap of his beloved idol, Gorou finds that he has been reborn as Aquamarine Hoshino—Ai's newborn son! With his world turned upside down, Gorou soon learns that the world of showbiz is paved with thorns, where talent does not always beget success. Will he manage to protect Ai's smile that he loves so much with the help of an eccentric and unexpected ally?

Leaked a while back and pretty much inevitable. I hope it's better than Kagura-sama, which totally does not work for me.

It's a completely different genre, so it'd be like comparing apples and oranges.

It's a manga I enjoy a lot. Solid story and characters all around.

Yeah, I hear good things. I just think it’s logical to consider the past works by a mangaka in trying to figure out if you’ll like the new one. Not infallible by any means but a logical thing to do.

Well, I enjoy Kaguya, but the most I know about this is people talking about the quality of Kaguya declining because the author was focusing more on this work :eyespin:.

Official site is live. Teaser visual has been released. Studio Doga Kobo will be adapting the anime.

Finally, we all knew it was coming.

Doga Kobo is unexpected :eyespin:.

stray 2022-06-09 14:38

Its finally official. I wonder how many episodes it'll go.

Shadow5YA 2022-06-09 14:43

I think it's probably safe to expect the standard 1-cour

stray 2022-06-09 15:51

One cour will barely get us through the prologue though.

That'll be enough to hook people. The weird thing is how they still don't have a translation for the title. The magna's already licensed, but they're still using the romaji.

AP24 2022-06-10 05:44

The word 推し (oshi) is a slang that has no exact translation in English. It’s used to refer someone’s favorite idol, actor, etc. I think “star” or “idol” is the closest English version of the word.

Guardian Enzo 2022-06-10 18:50

No issues with Doga Kobo, but I'm surprised to see such a third-rate staff for a seemingly very high-profile adaptation.

I second that emotion. Honestly, the synapsis itself doesn't really inspire me, but I'll check it out anyway.

serenade_beta 2022-06-10 20:58

The author's motivation to write Kaguya-sama, dropping... dropping... currently in free-fall

CrowKenobi 2022-10-12 10:48

Coming in 2023 with a 90-minute first episode.

Nachtwandler 2022-10-12 11:04

They plan to adapt all prologue volume with it, probably. Riery as Ai is also a good choice I think.

That's definitely their plan. It makes sense, the end of the prologue has a strong hook.

Wandering Soul 2022-10-12 19:20

Yeah, it makes sense to get to the end of prologue as soon as possible. I wasn't expecting a 90 minute episode, but it's a nice surprise.
