Buried the lead here - it's directed by Hatakeyama Mamoru, one of the very best in the business.

Frontier 2023-03-22 10:43

This seems like a crazy hodgepodge of Gothic Victorian Supernatural and Phantom Thieve genres :heh:.

Didn't see anyone update this. New trailer is out a few days ago. Release date is July 5.

Dynamic tag cannot be rendered. (PrintableThread)
Apparently, a lot of literary characters are in there as well such as Sherlock Holmes, John Watson, Professor Moriarty, Frankenstein, Arsene Lupin, Phantom of the Opera, and Carmilla. There's also Aleister Crowley and Jack the Ripper.

Kanon 2023-06-16 06:25

Looks like they're mixing a ton of stuff. Result should be interesting.

Marcus H. 2023-06-16 07:45

Oh, so it's a detective-led series... and we also have Holmes, Watson and Moriarty for good measure. This will be fun.

Despite the very flamboyant designs we see in the OP (which are kinda not my sitch, I dislike the "Look at me, I'm so kewl!" <guitar riff> style of shows), the story so far is more down to earth than I was expecting and quite well told. Not many sympathetic characters to be found, for sure, but interesting ones at least. The cinematography also is quite well done. Probably a pick-up. The OP is pretty rocking, too.

Kanon 2023-07-05 18:05

I enjoyed this quite a bit, and am curious to see where it goes. Refreshing to see a laid-back adult MC given the kind I've had to tolerate so far this season.

They didn't outright say it but it's obvious the villain is Moriarty.

Master_Yoma 2023-07-05 20:50

Well that some set up a guy who fight yokai and a maid that knows how to use that bayonet and to top it off a disembodied head in a birdcage

Alchemist007 2023-07-05 21:36

Neat sort of premise, will see where it goes.

grecefar 2023-07-05 22:21

I did like their chat, it was entertaining.

Ragashingo 2023-07-05 22:35

Yeah, this was intriguing. Loved how they continually played with the visuals during the long talking segment at the end.

Guardian Enzo 2023-07-05 22:57

I’ve said it a million times, the most important figure with an adaptation is the director. This series has one of the best.

Spoiler for ep1:

It absolutely feels like a Shirodaira Kyou (Zetsuen no Tempest, In/Spectre) type series.

Whether that is a good thing or a bad thing is up to the viewer. But yeah, the dialogue feels a bit stiff and excessively formal. I guess that's meant to convey how old she is, but it doesn't fit with the rest of the cast.

Wonder what it cost to travel from Tokyo to London in 1898? I assume it would involve a ship rather than overland through Russia.

Nachtwandler 2023-07-06 15:19

THe direction andvoice acting were pretty good here. I will definetly check it out.

Blaat 2023-07-07 11:49

Directing and voice acting really made this dialogue heavy episode enjoyable to watch.

Trans-Siberian Railway was still under construction so they'll definitely go by boat.

Kanon 2023-07-12 16:58

I was surprised the case wasn't solved in the episode. Are they aiming for two cours?

Anyway, that was pretty good. The main cast have already made a name for themselves as detectives. So, any guess who the culprit is? Clues seem to indicate it's a vampire.

Alchemist007 2023-07-12 17:14

I like the synergy with the trio, should be a good cour at least.
