Liar Game

I just did a Search, and I didn't find a Thread dedicated to this Manga.

Liar game, the Manga.
Anyone know of it?

I've watched the Anime, and... It didn't really give me the same feel as the Manga.
Is that just me, or are there others like that?

/Anyway: Discussions everyone? :)

There isn't an anime of it, but there is a live-action drama of it, if that's what you mean. I like the psychological aspects of it. Akiyama is pretty clever, and I always like a character who's got wits. I also like Nao's naiveity, though that's what why some people consider it generic clever-guy-saves-stupid-girl plotline.

As for the j-drama, I watched it up to the end of the 2nd round(ep3? 4?), and, as you said, it wasn't as good as the manga. There's no way the j-drama could reproduce the manga's hilarious facial expressions of Nao when she gets screwed over, but all in all, it still did OK. I also didn't want to spoil myself of the manga ending.

Now that you mention it~ IT IS kind of the "Clever-Guy-Saves-Stupid-Girl" Plotline.
Though I wouldn't go as far as to say Nao is stupid. To me- Well, It feels like she's fitting in the Liar Game more and more, and becoming more confident. But I still like how she's so Naive aswell. ^^,

*donks head* Drama, that's what I meant. Thanks. xD
Well, I watched the whole series and it wasn't that bad but it didn't match up to the Manga.

I love this series. It started off kind of iffy but it's just gotten better and better and now I love it almost as much as I loved Death Note.

14 card poker. Wonder how akimiya is gonna win this one.

sumowow 2009-05-31 01:47

I absolutely love this series. At first, i was a bit skeptical because i thought it would be some kind of Death Note rip-off. Thank goodness its not and im so glad that i had decided to stick around for this. I find myself at the edge of my seat tearing my hair out or sometimes even just laying back and laughing wildly at everything that's going on. I would highly recommend this series to anyone at all it is definitely worth the read.

Read up to Ch 75. What's a suspense. I wonder how the last hand will play out

Actually he can just fold and still win...

Exactly...the guy with glasses think he is so smart and has not thought about it either.

Hm, could it be knowing 10/16 (since we presume the 17th, the joker would always end up to the enemy) cards Aki is using a sort of statistically sound luck to determine the outcome, knowing that his enemy is ignoring the small fraction where still having a joker you loose. That's the warning flag that popet in my head when I started hearing the "exchange 5 cards". There's another catch, what exactly happens when both exchange 5?

RBomber 2009-06-01 22:20

Or maybe better:

The enemy knows where the Joker is; Akiyama makes next move; he determines cards that existing in the deck. Hey, since this is 17 cards poker, of course it's MUCH easier to remember than 312 cards you play in standard casino Black Jack. And (at least in shonen manga), someone already put this trick effectively.:heh::heh::heh:

felix 2009-06-02 06:44

That's what I was refering to with statistic. I call it that since I'm not sure if you are left with 2 cards that that can win/break the game.

I agree with Cats, Akiyama acted so out of character that surely he was tricking both the dealer and that glass guy to arrange the card for him

I-Love-Konata 2009-06-02 13:27

From the moment Akiyama requested the dealer to shuffle only with riffle-shuffle things changed. There's also a possibility that glasses guy are starting to see and guess the position of the joker incorrectly, as in chapter 69, it's explained that the decks have slightly different design. To actually graze the image underneath the card that was moving at such a speed already will strain your eyes, on top of that, his eyes already suffered retinal detachment, and it might affect his vision (might). Possibilities exist =D

Nao's turn for the roulette. Can't believe this thread isn't popular. The manga's awesome.

felix 2009-07-09 14:20

As someone here said once, "People have really bad taste."

Umaibo 2009-07-09 14:24

Liar game is just an underrated manga. If I didn't watch the drama, I wouldn't have found out about the manga last year.

felix 2009-07-09 14:28

It seems to be a trait of the authors works.

One Outs, while apparently (judging by the torrent listing numbers) popular, was pretty damn underrated as well.

Liar Game always amazes me, started reading when there were only a few chapters translated.
Have been catching up recently, and wonder too would the drama even be any good.
