the panel lining on the back of the shield looks great. Just one question, did you painted or did something to the actual armor plates of the Strike?

sword.impulse 2008-03-25 19:28

Yeah, i just used plain old tamiya blue, and for the red i replaced it with dull red.

It's probably shiny because you're using glossy paints. If you want it less shiny just use matte paints or a matte overcoat.

I hope i didn't confuse you with that:p

i am using tamiya regular red here is a pic

the paint felt thick cuz i go over 2-3 layers make sure everything is covered

~Destiny~ 2008-03-25 20:34

Ummm as far as i know all tamiya canned paints are glossy(somone correct me if i'm wrong)

So just use a matte topcoat. I dont think it'll make the paint feel TOO much thicker

beamknight87 2008-03-25 20:47

does regular spray cans also work or they MUST be Tamiya ones?

~Destiny~ 2008-03-25 21:06

I dont usually use spray cans so i might not be the best to answer that, but I'm pretty sure as long as you prime and use acrylic/enamel spray paints, it should work just fine.

Go over it with Tamiya Topcoat (Flatmatt). It protects the paint, and "unshines" the model. And I must say, your model looks pretty awesome.

yeah its a tamiya can. It comes out flat but i also have mica red, and it has a glossy finish.

but yeah, matte coat will take the gloss away, dries really fast too

and about the numerous layers, i try to do one always if possible. sometimes too many layers dont dry well and they become prone to fingerprints and panel lining becomes more difficult, if that helps any.

thnx, gonna go get a can of matte coat tomorrow, i think sometimes i layered mine too much, but kinda hard try to get everything covered in one layer with soray cans... maybe i should just stick to OBB, do some panel line and coating...

And while you're at it, get yourself a can of Tamiya Surface Primer as well. Priming the parts reduces the chances of putting on several layers of coats, and the paint sticks really well, too.

By the way, that Astray of yours looks great; I like your chosen color scheme. ;)

HGUC Nu Double Fin Funnel Mod :-

duotiga 2008-03-26 08:48

wahhh...so is possible to do MSV mode for Nu?

MakubeX2 2008-03-26 08:55

Here's how you do it. At the price of a MG of course.

This edition of Nu still have not fix the problem with the lower legs being too short though, which is something I still need to nitpick about since it's MG incarnation.

That's just showing the relative size of the actual suit. Nu was about 22 meters tall, while an average suit was only about 18 meters.

LightningZERO 2008-03-26 11:29

I like the new head assembly :D

the closest hobbby store ( might be the biggest in the city) does not have tamiya matte coat and they ran out of red paint, and so am I .... :(

The double funnel systems is a MSV. Also, once the funnels of the Nu are launched they don't return, contrary to the perfected fin funnel system of the Hi Nu. Still, seems like a miniature MG to me jojo.

On other matter, what happens when you use spray cans without priming the pieces first? Does the paint simply doesn't stick? I used no prime (since I can't seem to find a primer or a substitute for it in Mexico) on my MG Wing Ver. Ka and didn't found any probs besides having to apply 2 coats of paint...

hobby mag in Japan often have couple page of mod HGs... the throne eins turbulenz looks amazing, same with exia avalanche, hynames tropedo, kyrios gust... since avalanche is coming out, hope all the others do too. as for the x, i think it's just a mod, but would like to see X MG comes out (probaby will come out eventually)

Terra 2008-03-26 19:16

I'd love a 1/100 Kyrios Gust, but with how much larger that makes it, I see it only really happening 1/144 unfortunately. But I can hope they'd do the same as they have with Avalanche and do it 1/100. Either way, it'd be one of the rare times I'd be prepared to get a 1/144 if that was all that was available.

Mister Mister 2008-03-26 19:42

somehow, I doubt that there's any possibility of an eins mod within gundam 00's future.

Just having more funnels doesn't mean anything. It just means that they just attached more funnels from the spares store. Doesn't mean that the funnels are better in performance.

ive come to find, at least from my experiences, the matte coat doesnt need to be specific for models.

i actually use a krylon one from a craft store, and it works very well. its really cheap and you get alot more than a hobby spraycan.

mmm interesting since Krylon (or similar) matte topcoat is very common. Guess I will give it a try in 2 more months once I start to build up my *gasp* already accumulated 12 gunplas :twitch: which may even increase to 14 if I decide to get the 1/100 Exia and Dynames later this month :heh:
